| I had my first drink when I was about 3 weeks out.. Just sipped wine.
I'm 6 & half weeks out now, and I can drink beer (albeit not nearly as fast or as much as I used to)... I drank nearly an entire bottle of malibu on Saturday... I mixed it with diet coke & ice... the spirits & ice pretty much flattened the coke, and I didn't feel as uncomfortable as I did drinking beer... Might be going with that now as my drink of choice I think!

| Hi BellShell,
You will be fine now, just don't overdo it and see how you go with carbonated drinks. I waited about 10 weeks before I tried fizzy and found that I was ok, provided I didn't gulp and sipped slowy. Enjoy the treat!!
I am now 6 months post op and can drink fizzy and mixed drinks - southern and coke is my favourite. One thing I have found is, that I couldn't burp in the beginning - could only produce little 'pops' but now I am back to full burps - lol!!

| Before the sleeve I was attempting to cut out really sugary or caffeinated alcoholic drinks, so opted for Vodka and water, with the occasional dash of red cordial for a bit of flavour. Has a good effect, you stay hydrated and it's pretty low cal, and no carbonation so not against the postop reccommendations :) | |

| I had a few sips of champayne and one glass of red at 11 days post op at a wedding and it did burn my throat so had sips of water in between. Yesterday at just over 3 weeks post op I had a glass of red but found it to be quite strong so just added a little water and it was fine (water and wine its like being a child again at Sunday lunch!) | |

| Yep I am another that USE to be a great wine drinker and now can stand the taste. Ok I finally managed a few sips of Moet on my birthday which was 6 months out but still couldn't drink a glass.
What I have finally found (just last month) is that I can drink a French Martini....and I can only have one....they are smooth and not 'harsh' if that makes sense. 15ml Chambord, 45ml Vodka and 30ml Pineapple juice. I tend to put a little less vodka and a little more pineapple juice but i sip away at it and enjoy it....
Have fun x | |

| I'm with Channa; over Easter, had a glass of my favourite wine, should say poured a glass, drank half a glass; tasted like vinegar, but I had to perservere with it, didn't I; and I used to be a two glass screamer; now I am a half glass screamer. | |

| Hi there,
I've read a number of people's comments about having a wee tipple at only 2 or 3 weeks out. At 5 weeks, you should be alright. You might want to avoid bubbly, though.
However, forewarned is forearmed... Unfortunately, if you're like me you're going to be disappointed. At the moment, wine tastes like vinegar! And I'm talking ALL wines, even excellent ones. I'm really hoping that my taste buds are going to get back to normal - soon!

| Hi all, I wasn't game to ask my surgeon on my post op visit about when I can indulge in a 'wee tipple' for celebratory purposed only of course! lol A co-worker chose to wait 3 months, so any experiences welcome. I am not planning anything major but would like to be able to sip a wine with my hubby when he takes me away this weekend. I am currently nearly 5 weeks post op. thanks. | |

| I think I was only 2 weeks out when I went to a friends and had a wine. Just sipped on it and had a nibble on some cheese. No one really notices unless you are having dinner if you don't eat much that early on. If they ask just say you are doing what they say on tv and halving your meals. | |

| This is why I don't drink and drive, even 1 glass of wine. I normally walk home, if I can't get a ride. Lucky that I live 1 block from the main street. | |

| I went out for a drink the other night. I had a standard glass of wine (no bigger) after dinner. I was contemplating having another, but had to drive home so my friend pulled out her own personal breathalyser and I blew .05. I think I'm affected more post surgery, but only because I don't eat as much. | |

| I went to my staff Christmas party last night and over the course of the evening drank a whole bottle of sparkling wine.......went down a treat, along with the food I grazed on. I haven't had any problems with alcohol since being sleeved, and I think I was only 3 weeks out when I had my first vodka! It doesn't affect me any differently than it did before I was sleeved. I only drink once a week/fortnight socially, so not a big drinker. | |
