PostSubject: Pregnancy with the sleeve   Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 12 EmptyTue 23 Sep 2008, 12:18 am

First topic message reminder :

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who has been pregnant since having the sleeve or knows of anyone who has? If so how did you go eating wise? I can't seem to find anything on this anywhere, only pregnancies with gastric bypass...

Thanks :)

PostSubject: Re: Pregnancy with the sleeve   Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 12 EmptyThu 12 Aug 2010, 5:13 am

Just thought i would let you all know my pregnancy has come to an early end. After having another ultrasound on tuesday i spent 5 hours at the hospital whilst Doctors waited for results, confirmed results went through options and brought in specialists. I was booked and had a D&C yesterday as the pregnancy was deemed not viable and classed as a missed miscarriage as my bleeding had ceased but embryo remained (it had stopped developing at 5w5d and i should have been at least 10). Had a pretty shitty day emotionally yesterday but am feeling much better today. Hopefully this is a one off and our next pregnancy will be smooth sailing. cheers.

Well i am no further ahead with what is happening at this point... i have been diagnosed with a threatened miscarriage. Although the ultrasound showed a slight variation of gestational age all appears normsl at this point. Have another appointment in 2 weeks to do a comparison so will hopefully know more then. No explanation for the bleeding at this point so fingers crossed its just 'one of those things'.

Thanks Chris for the hugs :)
I wouldnt say i am not optomistic... there is still a chance all will be okay and i would be over the moon if that is the case. I think i am just trying to protect myself from being hurt... if i prepare myself now that all is not good i cant be hurt anymore.... or something like that.

An update... I have been to the hospital for more bloods. Results not very encouraging. hCG levels have only risen from 4000 to 4200 (they should be 8000). Am booked in for an ultrasound tomorrow but chances are i have lost this one. :(
Will be booked for D&C then will try again. Hopefully this is a one off.

I am so sorry to hear youve been through the emergency and can imagine how scary it must be. I bleed heavily on and off the first 12 weeks (esp after sex) so I didn't know I was pregnant, just thought my cycle was stuffed up. I hope this is the case with you also. I hope if you are going public you stress that you want an internal ultrasound not just a belly one so that your cervix is checked properly it might need a stitch. Progesterone shots to ensure you keep the baby. Mine was open and that is part of the reason fir my bleeding - the belly ultrasound said it was long and closed - that was very wrong, the internal one showed it opened under pressure. Too many public babies are lost unnecessarily as the tests that should be routine are not done in the public system by default unless you have already lost a baby. It is horrible for our system to treat women the way they do. Good luck and I hope it is good news for you x

Thanks for the support ladies you have no idea how much i appreciate it.
Unfortunately this pregnancy may not have been meant to be... I started bleeding yesterday so took a trip to the local ED. They took some bloods and did an internal exam. All looks okay at this stage but need to go back on monday for more blood tests to compare HCG levels. If they have increased that will be a good sign but if not it doesnt look good.
This is the first time i have even looked like miscrarrying. Any of you out there had similar experiences with good outcomes??? Anyone had bad outcomes???
Not surprisingly it was my MIL who was the greatest support when i contacted her yesterday. My mothers only response was "i knew it was too soon after your op".
Oh well fingers crossed bleeding settles and all will be good. Will let you know how i go monday.

Hey kmsbj
Firstly, congratulations! Fantastic news about your bub - and congratulations to you too, Jane.
As for the comments - I know just how you feel! Your mum and mine could be twins - I wonder what would happen if we inflicted them on each other? No, let's not - they'd probably become best friends and gang up on us!
I'm glad that your MIL is so good, though nothing would beat an understanding mum (I guess).
Big hugs
Chris

OMG some people can be insensitive. A child is a gift regardless.. I have had the operation in sept last year and am currently 3 months pregnant. my sister was the one that gave me hell when i told her i was pregnant. Unfortantley mine and my husbands parents are both decessed so all i really have is my sister but one thing i have learnt is some people seem to miss the compassion gene. it is fantastic news that you are carrying a little mircle and so long as you eat right and take your vitimins (im taking pregnancy vitimins and extra folate) as my gp said baby will get everything it needs... I have yet to tell my surgeon cause he didnt want me to try and fall pregnant till bout 18 months after the op (Oops) but i see this child im carrying as a gift... all i wanted was to be a mum again and prior to surgery i had no chance (esp at 155kgs)..

sorry if im ranting but all you deserve is love and happiness and tell ur mum to put a sock in it...

Thanks for the offer Sue. Luckily the rest of my family and my Hubby's family are behind me and are excited about the news. MIL is great... i am lucky in that way.

I agree issi, unfortunately though my mother never really shows me respect when it comes to my kids, she thinks her way is the only way. We have had moments where we havent spoken to each other for ages but i cant punish the kids by not letting her see them, i just dont think its right. She defenitely needs to bite her tongue though.

Am feeling better this morning. I will do what is best for me and my baby. My mother can either support me or go jump. Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 12 63412

Omg your mother sounds like a prize! I would have slapped her for being such a cow. My mum knows it's a privilege to be part of your childs life and not a right so she has to show me respect (we've had problems with her weight comments in the past) but thankfully she has been fantastic about my pregnancy.

I hope your mother learns to bite her tongue and show you some respect also xo

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!

PostSubject: Re: Pregnancy with the sleeve   Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 12 EmptyWed 21 Jul 2010, 1:00 pm

Okay so i am mad and this may not make sense but here goes... will try to be brief.
I have been fat my entire life and my mother is the polar opposite.... a size 8 swimms on her (lucky woman). I have always had a deep seeded feeling that she never could understand 'what went wrong' and why 'she' had an overweight child... many cutting remarks over the years brushed aside by loving comments of support and encouragement. The type of woman you think is your best friend until she stabs you in the back whilst hugging you.
Any way, so i told her today she was going to be a grandma again which was extremely hard to do as she didnt approve of my 3rd child. I am a grown woman capable of making my own choices but she seems to think that because she only wanted (and had) 2 kids i should be the same. I was met with indifference. that was my first shock. it was like she hadnt heard what i had said. then after some general small talk (non-baby related) she asked..... "arnt you concerned now that you've had the operation??? your baby wont get all the nutrients it needs and you'll end up with a half-wit". Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 12 427584 Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 12 427584 Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 12 427584
I couldn't believe what she had just said. Not concerned i may become unwell, not concerned the baby may be unwell, just worried about me giving birth to a "half-wit". Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 12 878453
I am sorry if this term offends anyone reading this post, believe me i am with you. I never realised until today just how shallow my mother is. When pregnant with #1 and faced with being a single mother i was told that my AFP levels were low, which is an indicator of Downs Syndrome. My mother suggested at the time that if it was confirmed the baby had downs, i should abort. At the time although i didnt agree and had no intention of doing so regardless of the results, i took her comment as one of a concerned mother, worried about how her daughter may cope raising a disabled child alone... after todays comments i think it was more she couldnt bear for her grandchild to be disabled. I am so angry Roar .
Sleeve or no sleeve there is always a possibility that something may happen and a disabled child will be born, but be buggered if i will love that child any less and be buggered if i will let her make me feel guilty for wanting more kids than her. Just because i have been sleeved doesnt mean i cant have a healthy baby... It just means this time I am healthier.
Okay so thats my rant... still trying to process the whole conversation. Was more like a really bad nightmare. thanks for listening/reading.

PostSubject: Thinking about trying...   Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 12 EmptyMon 19 Jul 2010, 8:20 am

Hi ladies.

I've just been reading through all the past posts re: pregnancy and the sleeve. It's great to see so much support and all the ladies sharing their pregnancy stories. I had my little girl about 18 months ago (pre sleeve) and contrary to what all the "medical and scientific facts" say, I was 123kg and fell pregnant within one month of going off the pill (I stopped taking it the night we got married!). I didn't have any major complications and had a great natural birth, I did have to be induced but it meant I only had a 5 hour labour so I can't complain about that!

So anyway, I KNOW you're supposed to wait 12 months before falling pregnant. But I'm seriously considering going off the pill and trying for a second baby. I had my sleeve done three months ago and I've almost lost 25kg. I feel great and I weigh less now than I did when I fell pregnant the first time. I know it can interfere with the weight loss, but I'll keep losing weight even after I have a baby, so I'm not concerned about interrupting the weight loss because it will still come off in its own time. I just think my little girl is at the perfect age and she'll be looking for a little brother or sister soon! Plus, I'm finding myself more and more clucky all the time!

So... I see a couple of past posts from ladies who fell pregnant sooner than advised by doctors, so I'd really love to hear from anyone who fell preggers before the one year mark. And I'd really appreciate anyone else's thoughts on the matter (good or bad please feel free to share your opinion, I am totally open to everything!).

Thanks, Leisa.

Hey, Issi, I was just about to post here to see how you were going, so it's nice that you've already let us know! I'm glad to hear that you're doing well. I have no idea how you manage to eat 6-8 slices of bread a day, though! LOL Baby must be a very hungry little one!!!
And congratulations, Xan - sounds like your little one was a big surprise! But good luck with the pregnancy, and I'm sure that the others on this thread will help you along.
How's everyone else going?

Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 12 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Pregnancy with the sleeve   Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 12 EmptySun 18 Jul 2010, 7:58 am

Congratulations Xan! I lost weight during the first trimester (from vomiting morning sickness) but have made up for it in the second, I am nearly back up to conception weight only there is a little basketball bump that wasn't there before. I am in my 23rd week. I still freak out about gaining too much weight also but am on a diet that keeps me healthy while eating a lot of food even some junk in there. To give you an example I am eating at least 6-8 slices of whole grain bread each day usually with salad veges, 1-2 pieces of fruit (a banana before bed to keep me going through the night), 100g chicken breast, 100g mince beef, 1-2 cups pasta, and some kind of sweet treat (chocolate, cookie etc), as well as cereal and yoghurt for breaky. This has me putting on the 0.5-1kg a week they wanted in the second trimester. I can easily eat it all with my sleeve I am lucky (or unlucky!) I take elevit, vit d, rani 2 for reflux, pro biotic, antibiotic daily, and have iron injections weekly. I also have the zofran wafers for morning sickness as needed. Tax refund is going to look good from pharmacy bills!

I would see a dietician when your at 14 weeks to get help with an eating plan that will work for you and get lots of sun for that vit d so you don't have to take an extra supplement like me - elevit does not have sufficient vit d or iron in it.

Good luck :)

PostSubject: Eating for 2 when we can eat enough for one..   Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 12 EmptySun 18 Jul 2010, 2:09 am

Hi :)

I had my sleeve done in Nov 08 and am currently 11 weeks pregnant. I'm really struggeling with food as everything looks and smells disgusting and despite forcing myself to eat i keep getting in trouble with my dr (and more so from my husband) for loosing weight. Funnily enough i feel like i am eating constantly and prior to getting pregnant my weight had been stable for a few months just loosing and gaining the same 1-2 kgs.
I'm also petrified about gaining weight. any weight. i know i have too and im not put off eating so i dont gain weight - its just that the idea of food repels me.amin
How did others go with eating enough to keep baby and mum healthy? I'm constantly in trouble for one vitamin/mineral deficiency as it is. I now have to have bi-monthly vitamin 12 shots and blood tests for levels. Plus i have a script only iron supplements, the prenatal vitamin Elevit and an additional calcium supplement... not a tasty breakfast
any advice would be highly appreciated i've 3 little ppl at home all born many yrs prior to sleeve with girls aged 12 and 8 plus a 10yo boy so back to babyvilles going to be a bit of a schock to our houehold but i cant wait
