| Subject: Eating for 2 when we can eat enough for one.. Sun 18 Jul 2010, 2:09 am | |
| Hi :)
I had my sleeve done in Nov 08 and am currently 11 weeks pregnant. I'm really struggeling with food as everything looks and smells disgusting and despite forcing myself to eat i keep getting in trouble with my dr (and more so from my husband) for loosing weight. Funnily enough i feel like i am eating constantly and prior to getting pregnant my weight had been stable for a few months just loosing and gaining the same 1-2 kgs. I'm also petrified about gaining weight. any weight. i know i have too and im not put off eating so i dont gain weight - its just that the idea of food repels me.amin How did others go with eating enough to keep baby and mum healthy? I'm constantly in trouble for one vitamin/mineral deficiency as it is. I now have to have bi-monthly vitamin 12 shots and blood tests for levels. Plus i have a script only iron supplements, the prenatal vitamin Elevit and an additional calcium supplement... not a tasty breakfast any advice would be highly appreciated i've 3 little ppl at home all born many yrs prior to sleeve with girls aged 12 and 8 plus a 10yo boy so back to babyvilles going to be a bit of a schock to our houehold but i cant wait

| Thanks girls that makes me feel a lot better as the hospital midwife was blaming my sleeve surgery on everything. Even the cervix issue. I felt like I'd had the worst surgery in the world for my baby. Staying in bed and being good x | |

| Hi Issi, So sorry to hear that your not well but it is not that uncommon to have all-day, morning sickness for the whole pregnancy even without the sleeve, it just means that you are more sensitive to the pregnancy hormones and having a fairly new sleeve is probably making it worse for you. My first pregnancy was horrible and I spent most of it in hospital (first pregnancies are usually the worst for both morning sickness and for pre-exclampsia or high blood pressure), but baby was beautiful and perfect (he is 24 now) and the good news is that each pregnancy after that got better so by my forth it was a dream pregnancy with hardly any sickness at all. Please make sure you stay in bed until the Drs say you can get up and about I had to be on bed rest for my last four pregnancies due to weak cervix (lost one as I didn t follow Drs advice and thought I knew better) when I did as I was told which was to do absolutely nothing and stay in bed I was blessed each time with a beautiful baby girl who are now 21,13 and 8 yrs old. I know you are feeling sick and miserable and that four months seems like a long time but just think of the prize at the end, believe me it will all be worth it when they place your beautiful baby girl in your arms.. | Hi Issi. I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so yucky!! With my last daughter (8yo) I vomited until I was 27 weeks pregnant (and that was waaay pre-sleeve). In fact, it's what started my weight gain as the only thing I could keep down was really greasy food. Absolutely nothing healthy stayed down!!
Hopefully this stage passes soon, and you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!

| I've been so sick I just got out of hospital after a week, even zofran wafers wern't working anymore. I was having 8mg zofran IV every 4hrs to keep anything down. The nurses said I should expect to be hospitalized many times before birth :( I just had my cervix stitched while I was in there as well as the latest ultrasound Friday showed it opening up, when it was tight and long just a week earlier. I am on flat on back rest at home now. | |

| Issi - I was very sick for the first 16 weeks of my pregnancy, I was actually prescribed Zofran to stop me throwing up (it's what Cancer patients are given to stop the nausea from chemo). I ended up in emergency once, and needed a drip to be rehydrated (I probably should have gone at least one other time, but I didnt have anyone to watch Lily)/ Luckily it seemed to have settled down on it's own, I still feel sick, and throw up every now and then, but nothing compared to how I was feeling before.
I hope you start to feel better soon.
Congrats on your little princess!!!

| Has anybody else experienced vomiting throughout their whole pregnancy? To the point where you feel like you are choking/gagging at least once a day? My OB said this is common with sleeve patiens but I don't recall reading about it before. My all day morning sickness is pretty bad but baby is perfect little parasite the ob said she is thriving while I feel like I'm dying. 4 more months of this can't wait for her to be born. | |

| Bee I think because I have been so sick much of the time since the surgery and am prone to overdoing it. Plus I have had a bit of an extreme pregnancy to date with all the drugs the docs have given me thinking I had something else wrong with me, taking to every rollercoaster at the theme parks for a week, lots of sashimi etc. all while I had no idea I was pregnant. I also have a chest/sinus infection so I think they really want me getting myself healthy and resting up.
I hope my post pregnancy weight loss is as great as yours, I have so many clothes i'm waiting to fit back into and was getting so close - going to spacebag all those clothes for the next year now so I don't have to look at them.

| I only gained 6kgs when I was pregnant, right after I gave birth I lost 12kgs, like 2 days after, and within 4 weeks Id lost 18kgs. I am still losing weight now, but because I am very close to my bodies goal weight my body is dropping it a lot slower.
I was never put on bed rest...Did they say why you need to be on bedrest?

Issi - I wasnt put on bed rest. I was told to just go about life as I normally would. I was told to try and eat smaller meals more often though, so that I could try and get more food in. I hope you're doing ok?

| Bee I am so sorry to hear about your loss. It is great news that your daughter is ranking so high with everything though and I think helps give us all more hope that the sleeve wont affect our babies.
You have lost so much weight, did the sleeve help you lose more weight after your first pregnancy or did you lose it all before the pregnancy? (sorry can't tell if the weight loss was mostly in the 3 months before you were pregnant with sleeve, after birth or if it included band loss as well).
I fell pregnant 3 weeks (so embarrassed!) after sleeving (i think our surgeon is a good omen for getting quickly preg shortly after the sleeve!) so never really got any weight loss from the sleeve, just the pre sleeve diet and the weight loss drugs they gave me (which i have gained back from). Hoping the sleeve kicks in after birth for me! I can eat like a normal person at the moment it feels like.
Was anybody else put on bed rest early on in pregnancy? I'm on bed rest since yesterday, 6-8 meals a day, no housework (was told by OB to get a maid or that my mum would do) and pelvic exercises. I was also told that hubby should be doing most of the cooking not me to discourage nausea as cooking smells bring it on worse. It feels like i'm going to be on a bit of a holiday - except for all the peeing - have they invented at home catheters yet so we can all get a good nights sleep lol?! I thought my very ill symptoms were all sleeve related until 14 weeks when pregnancy was discovered.

| Hey everyone!
How exciting to see more ladies pregnant! I am so sorry I haven't been on in a long time, but unfortunately I lost my last pregnancy. In January I gave birth at 16 weeks to a little baby girl. It had nothing to do with the sleeve. My bubba girl Caitlin is almost one now, and I've almost been sleeved two years. She is the most healthiest baby, and is the 97th percentile for everything! So long term, having a baby after being sleeved hasn't effected her growth whatsoever. I wish all the pregnant sleevers the best of luck!

| For those on somac or similar what did you take instead while pregnant? My GP says I can no longer take Somac as it's not proven safe and i'm dreading my first day off of it tomorrow as I know when I miss a day my throat/nose usually feel like they are on fire.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

| Tracy - it's great to hear that you are doing so well!!! And wow for only putting on 10kg, I bet that's all baby. My OB is worried about how I will go putting weight back on (I suffered antenatal depression and PND as well as anxiety last time), so she is keeping an extra close eye on me.
I have been getting worried about the GTT. How did the rest of you manage to drink that super sweet drink in the 5 minutes that they give you? Is it even possible to drink the whole thing that quickly?
Other than that, I am doing really well. I had a check up with the midwife today and she said everything is perfect (I was a bit worried as my uterus is still under my belly button, and some of the girls from my due date group are saying there's are above their belly button - but apparently I am measuring spot on).
This pregnancy is so different to Lily's I am so much more relaxed, and taking things as they come - last time I was a ball of nerves. I think this time I have much more faith in my body, and I know what's 'normal' and what's something to get concerned about.
I have my anatomy scan in a couple of weeks, and I am both excited and nervous. I have a huge family history of heart defects which will need to be checked for, but the place I am going to, is aware of my history so they will be taking an extra careful look for me.

| Subject: Update - nearly 36 weeks Wed 28 Apr 2010, 9:49 am | |
| Hi All,
Thought I would quickly update you on the progress of the bun in the oven! I am nearly 36 weeks and after some confusion about where my placenta is, everything is progressing normally. I have updated my pic, and people on facebook have said I look skinny - now that is a HUGE turn around, I haven't looked skinny EVER!
I had the funniest experiance with the specialist ob yesterday. He was so happy with my weight loss from the surgery! I think the funniest thing was being told that I was too normal to require his services!
From a sleeve POV it is very weird to be hungry and I am still not drinking enough water. The hardest thing so far as has been to look down at my belly and remind myself it is baby not the old belly I had. I must admit that has been a huge struggle, that and watching the scales go up instead of down! I have only put on 10kg so after the birth I should be pretty close to where I was when I got pregnant. So with breast feeding, some walking and being good with my food, I should be getting the scales moving in the right direction post baby, although there is no hurry.
Wonder how the other pregnant girls are doing?

| Hi. To answer your question i fell pregnant 3 months after surgery and have now only got 2 weeks left. I have maintained my weight although have noticed now that i am hungrier than before. I lost most of my 25kg whilst being pregnant and my baby is on the large side being 5.5 lbs at 34 weeks, which is not unusual for me. I dont suffer any side effects, my iron is good and all my results came back normal. At first i found it hard to take tablets and to actually eat more than a couple of mouthfuls was very hard. Even drinking was a challenge. Now i take my tablets like normal, can drink easier and eating way more than before. My only complication was my gall bladder which was taken out wheh i was 15 weeks along. Other than that my pregnancy has been great. I have never had bad morning sickness with any of my other 9 pregnancies, just felt sick as with this one. I did refuse to have the glucose test done as i knew i just couldnt drink the stuff. Well i hoped this has answered some of your questions that you have and just remember that it does get easier with time. Oh and by the way mine is a boy not a girl like some suggest after the sleeve. Its all to do with timing. | |

| Hi Im new to this website. I just wanted to know if anyone fell pregnant before the recommended 1 year waiting period.
Also if there was any complications with not been able to eat. I cant swallow tablets and Im afraid that my baby isnt getting the right start to life.
I fell pregnant after 9 years of trying after only 3 months after the surgery. I have lost 23kilos so far.
I have trouble eating anything and have bad morning all day sickness. Nausea more than vomiting.

| Yay yay yay !!!! So so so happy for you! I bet it has been hard to keep it quiet!
Glad to hear you are feeling a little more normal! Hope like me you will get hungry in the third trimester and be like most other preggo women, rounder and happy with a healthy baby kicking your ribs! I didn't put on much weight at the start but everything has been good at my scans (no more than normal - would seem Ob's are as different as sleeve docs). I have put on 3 kg in the last few weeks and trying not to get alarmed, after loosing all that weight it is hard to get my head around!
Take care and keep us posted! I have 7.5 weeks to go!
