| You haven't failed at all! I was absolutely perfect during my two week opti phase and in my first week I lost 2.8 and in my second I lost 0.4 which is still more than I could ever lose using any traditional diet method. My surgery went ahead with no problems.
The point of the opti phase is to shrink your liver and remove the excess fat from it making it easier to move out of the way during surgery. I think the nurses and doctors can sometimes forget the effect some throw away comment can have on us patients since surgery is an every day event for them.
Your fears are perfectly normal. I remember sitting in the 'holding bay' of the hospital in my gown and stockings waiting to be called up and being in floods of tears because of an insensitive comment from a nurse. I seriously thought about walking out then and there. I'm very glad I didn't.
Sometimes I miss being able to turn to food the way I used to but that relationship was robbing me of my health and ability to enjoy my life. Whatever issues I've had post surgery (reflux & depression specifically) I am glad I did it and would do it all over again.
You may mourn the loss of your 'friend' but as the new slimmer, healthier you begins to emerge you will find new ways of coping with what life throws at you.
Best of luck! | |

| Dont worry too much, its still an excellent loss and makes it easier for him to visualise everything inside u! I tootally understand how u felt re the opti, I was so sick of it towards the end that I hardly had it, used the bars instead and often only had 1 or 2 with allowed veg...... sleep well :-) Linda | |

| Thanks everyone!! I just typed a reply and lost it!!! I think why I feel so low is that I phoned the Dr office yesterday to query my weight loss, I have lost 6 kg in 2 weeks. I was suppose to do opti for 3 weeks, but could not stomach it - I would gag when I would try to drink it. I was not seeing my dietician until 2 weeks and 1 day prior to the surgery, When I saw her I adv her that I could not stomach opti, she suggested another shake - I did Terry White shakes and tolerated them well. And I was very proud of my weight loss - as it used to take me 5 weeks at WW to lose that amount, the nurse said she would check with the Doctor, when she phoned me back she said - the weight loss was ok, but he would of preferred more. So I just feel like I have failed already!!! | |

| Its not unusual to have those last minute nerves! Try and sleep, do some relaxation and before u know it u will be on the other side! As cherry ripe said, the first few days can be a bit rough but they are soon over and then things start to look up , look forward to hearing your story. Linda :-) | |

| Good Luck for tomorrow. You'll be on the other side before you know it. If food is your lifetime partner( I hope I read that right) it still will be but the relationship will be different.
All the best Hubba | |
