| Congratulations Stelaine...
You did it!! It's not so bad, is it?
I found that keeping busy and not thinking about it too much helped me, and of course this forum is magic.
Wishing you a speedy recovery, and looking forward to reading about your progress.
Best of luck hon. | |

| Hi Stelaine I feel your pain. I was hyperventilating in the waiting room at the hospital before surgery and had to force myself to do deep breathing exercises. Felt much better afterwards. Keep talking to yourself (in your head LOL) about why you are doing this - none of us go into it flippantly. You're in the best hands (docs) and they know their stuff. Look forward to hearing about your scale victories in the coming weeks! Best Caroline | |

| Its natural to feel scared I am also waiting for my op and experiencing the highs and lows, but when I get like this I take inspiration from the people on this site they tell it like it is the good the bad and the ugly. I know in the near future I will be looking to you for inspiration |

| You may not read this before your surgery but you can do this. You are making a choice that you will benefit from for the rest of your life. That last step is a hard one to take, but take it, you won't regret it. Good luck and I look forward to reading all about your smooth recovery.

| Hon maybe it would help to think of all the reasons you have to be doing this - what brought you to this decision and all the many, many things you have to look forward to as the healthier, slimmer, fitter person that you will become.
Be strong and know we're all here for you. Best of luck. It'll be my turn in 4 days time, by which time you'll have breezed through this! xx | |

| Stelaine those feelings are natural and quite common I suspect. I was certainly nervous about the surgery and the new lifestyle it would demand. I was sleeved two and half weeks ago and am already feeling well and truly recovered. I did it for health reasons. My diabetes now is in full remission and I am off medication for high blodd pressure as well. I couldn't be happier. I am sure in the fullness of time you will be too. | |

| Oh Stelaine
I hear you. I was so, very scared too the few days before surgery. I could not sleep and contemplated pulling out too. People around me here pulled their support for me to when I shared my apprehension. I think it would be abnormal not to be scared as it just shows that you have taken in the seriousness of the procedure. Your normal.
I wish you all the best as you embark on your journey.

| You haven't failed at all! I was absolutely perfect during my two week opti phase and in my first week I lost 2.8 and in my second I lost 0.4 which is still more than I could ever lose using any traditional diet method. My surgery went ahead with no problems.
The point of the opti phase is to shrink your liver and remove the excess fat from it making it easier to move out of the way during surgery. I think the nurses and doctors can sometimes forget the effect some throw away comment can have on us patients since surgery is an every day event for them.
Your fears are perfectly normal. I remember sitting in the 'holding bay' of the hospital in my gown and stockings waiting to be called up and being in floods of tears because of an insensitive comment from a nurse. I seriously thought about walking out then and there. I'm very glad I didn't.
Sometimes I miss being able to turn to food the way I used to but that relationship was robbing me of my health and ability to enjoy my life. Whatever issues I've had post surgery (reflux & depression specifically) I am glad I did it and would do it all over again.
You may mourn the loss of your 'friend' but as the new slimmer, healthier you begins to emerge you will find new ways of coping with what life throws at you.
Best of luck! | |
