Nausea First thing in the MORNING Empty
PostSubject: Sugary foods making me feel sick!?!?   Nausea First thing in the MORNING EmptySat 17 Sep 2011, 11:23 am

Hi Luke...i was about to ask the same thing until i read this! I find that i feel sick when i have sugary foods like juice, yoghurt, custard etc. Not to the point where i actually vomit, but still, that sick feeling! I was wondering if this is a common thing amongst sleevers too? Do foods that have a relatively high sugar content, upset the tummy a bit??????

I think it's the COLD and HOT stuff - shocks my tummy. I can drink room temperature water or warm tea first off, my tummy then wakes up and I am ready for breakfast after a shower. i i usually eat breakfst while in my car waiting in peak hour traffic e.g yoghurt & prunes, Cruskit, cheese & ham or a protein supplemented fruit Smoothie, I also find a vanilla protein shake with 2 heaped teaspoons of instant coffee is a good kick start in the mornings too- Easy to drink on the run with a piece of fruit. Make sure ou are keeping your vitamins up especially iron and B12 to keep your energy levels check. Your dietician can also advise what calorie intake you should be aiming for to help maintain good energy levels. We are all different and sometimes the most cuddliest amongst us need need higher calories intake just to maintain usual bodily functions. This requirement will decrease as our body mass decreases. Good luck, I am sure your dietician will have some great tips to help.

Only 5 days in and I have found that drinking tea in the morning is better than drinking water.

I find if I drink cold water it doesn't sit well, so I just have all my water at room temperature and I haven't had any problems since. Hope some of these suggestions help and your mornings get a bit more pleasant.

Nausea First thing in the MORNING Empty
PostSubject: Re: Nausea First thing in the MORNING   Nausea First thing in the MORNING EmptyFri 16 Sep 2011, 9:42 am

A couple of weeks out I discovered through trial and error that I needed to start the day with a warm drink too Luke.

This only lasted a week or two. Even now my tummy takes a while to wake up of a morning and when I mentioned this to my dietitian (a couple of months ago) she said not to panic, that it was OK for me to be having breakfast at 10am as I was still healing.

For the first 3 1/2 months I was basically having an Up N Go for brekkie everyday - convenient and easy. I've now moved onto cereal (called Protein 1st) with low fat milk and some fruit on top and that goes down well, although I like to let it soften a little first and have it over a 1/2 hour period. If I'm on the run or in a hurry, I'll still grab an Up N Go popper.

If you don't like tea/coffee, even some warm water (with honey if it takes your fancy) may help.

I'm so glad you're on this side now Luke ...

me too! I have always been a breakfast eater...( you don't say!)
now I cannot eat breakfast for over an hour and really better at weekends when i can get up have a little bit of tea, and then an hour or so later have something to eat. I have found that cereal ( protein enriched special k) has been the best thing as its wet and fills me up and sates my thirst at least a bit until I can wait to have a drink.

Luke I was a bit like that. Michelle gave me a great hint, which I still do now. When you get in the shower in the morning, sip the warm running water.I get straight out of bed into the shower, so it was a great starter. It seemed to help switch my tummy on to accept something a little heavier like a shake at brekkie.

Hope it feels better soon. Remember your new tummy is still healing, so give it some time. I am nearly seven weeks out, and I forget to sip slowly soemtimes, and it hurts!!!

Shaz

Nausea First thing in the MORNING Empty
PostSubject: Nausea First thing in the MORNING   Nausea First thing in the MORNING EmptyFri 16 Sep 2011, 3:11 am

Hey all been sleeved 4 weeks now and every morning i wake up dry throught from CPAP machine, and head straight to the fridge to have a drink, i feel it going down and as soon as it hits my tummy i feel off, it makes me feel sick but not to the point of throwing up just doesnt sit well. So i leave it wait half an hr shower, shave get dressed. get back into the kitchen to make a high protein smoothie, have a sip of that doesnt sit well either.

But after an hr or two i feel better and usually get through my smoothie and get through the rest of the day fine. so it basically goes away by about 11ish in the morning, i get up around 8am.

Im trying to get back into some work, thankfully dad is the boss so i can rock up when i want, but it means im starting the day on nothing and that gives me no energy to get through the day. Anyway i am seing Alan my Surgoun on monday so will ask him, or Nikki my dietician on Friday.

Does anyone else feel this?

Regards Luke
