| Hi, No you are not the lightest to have the surgery. Don't listen to the negative people out there that don't know anything about the sleeve. Reading on here gives you a far better insight. Should you have the surgery, in my opinion, bloody oath LOL Hugs Gail | |

| Subject: Hello Katrina and best of luck with your life changing operation :-) Mon 09 May 2011, 10:41 am | |
| Hello Katrina
Just a quick note to say hello and a couple of thoughts on your up and coming operation....
I was super scared at the thought of the operation, and I did go through with it in the end. I still remember waiting in the bed about an hour leading up to the operation and thinking was this the right thing to do!
I am so glad I was courageous enough to go ahead as it has totally revolutionised my life. I used to weight 120kg and now I am 47kgs lighter in just over seven months! Life is amazing, but I can understand your apprehension. I have also lost and gained weight over the years. Once I lost about 36kgs and then it all came back over a few years. Another time I lost about 20kgs and again I lost about 25kg the last time I really took charge of my health. To lose that kind of weight I was literally living down the gym doing close to two hours worth of activity roughly five times a week and you just can’t keep that up for the rest of your life.
For me, the sleeve has been a wonderful tool that has enabled me to work hard on my exercise and get my life back under control. It is such an amazing feeling to beat or control hunger and not let it control or dominate your life. In the end of the day, it’s truly up to you and your decision is the one that matters. I spent a lot of hours, literally 100’s of hours watching YouTube video dairies on the operation and this was really helpful to calm my nerves. Also the doctor’s clinic should give you a handful of names for you to ring up and chat to fellow patients and this was really helpful for me.
If you want to talk to someone who has had the operation, then feel free to message me and I will send you my telephone number and you can ask as many questions as you want.
Here to a very successful surgery and the start of an amazing adventure to skinnydom!

| Hi Katrina, I weighed 92kgs when I had my sleeve done. I too had tried every diet and exercise to no avail - if anything I would put weight on. I had loads of medical issues and was in for a very rough ride if I didn't do something drastic. I am now 5 months post op and all my medical problems are a thing of the past. I am so glad that I had this done and have no regrets. I fell so much better than what I did before the op. There are lots of people on this forum that started less than 100 kgs. Most people you tell are just worried about you but at the end of the day you are the one with the health problems. I did this for me and couldn't be happier. Suzie | |

| Hi there Katrina Welcome to this site; most people get nervous before the big day. Remember, yo yo dieting is the pits, we have all been there, as others have said the hard part is keeping it off, and each time we loose weight, it comes back again bringing its mates over to stay as well. I elected to tell very few people; in fact I only told my OH, I told my best friend after I had the sleeve and she has been very supportive along with my OH. My friend told me that she was glad I waited until after the sleeve to tell her, as she would have been frightened for me (I was at high risk of having this op, with other health related issues; and at high risk of death with not having the op). I know where you are coming from... I used to participate in a high energy sport, coaching, competing and at the lowest weight, I couldn't get under 80kgs and I trained like mad for hours per week and I thought I watched what I ate, and in comparison to others it was very little. You may find that after your op the people you have told will loose there views and support you a lot, we can only hope; you are not silly to share, I may have done that but I had seen similar situations prior, as I am a lot older than you. Try to stick to the OF I know it is so hard; though it is only for a short time, you have proved you can do this with other dieting you have done. Only you can answer whether this op is the right thing for you; but please do not listen to other peoples opinons, it is your decision and your decision alone. Hop on this site frequently, research, read my diary, read others diaries, read the monthly thread for May 2011, it is great to follow others at the same pace as you; read lots, most/all answers will be on here and rant about your people troubles, that is what/we are here for, to support you and each other; it helps alot and I am sure you will find it will assist you also. I absolutely LOVE my sleeve ... my only regret ... waiting too long to have it. I am now off of all my medications, and my health is reversing for the better, I am no longer at high risk of death; and this is all only three months after my op. Good luck on your op and your decision to go ahead with it. Keep in touch and take care. | |

| Thanks ladies for your replies!
Shaz- yep I have been on a diet my whole life I was always the fat kid at school and I am sick of the every day struggles with my weight and now I have had a good nights sleep and thought about it I am doing the right thing for me ! Congratulations on your up coming op date, I total understand your Nervis but what a great tool it will be on the other side, I wish you all the best please keep me up dated on how you go!
Kylie- Thank you for your kind words, you made a lots of scents to me and also made me lol! The one thing I have learnt by sharing my story with the people around me (which also were some of them that didn't have nice things to say about weight at 126 kegs) is that if they never struggled with a weight issue they have no idea how hard it is to get Off and to keep it off, so it is very easy for them to sit back and jugde the sleeve op but what I don't think they understand that it is a life long tool that will help with the weight iusses that they had such a problem with to start with! Enough of my ranting now, I would really love to keep in contact with you and follow your life changing journey good luck and best wishers!

| As long as you know the truth it dosent matter what others say. Its your body and its up to you. I started at 224 and sometimes feel like maybe im cheating and YES im cheating DEATH. So tell people that are judgeing u to bite your butt and that way you may lose a few more Kilos and if they have nothing nice to say then SHUT UP. I tell my friends my true opions but respect their right to choose their life path. I dont know if im making sense or not. True friends will be honest and have concens but shall support and respect what we choose. | |

| Hi Katrina Have you been dieting for most of your life loosing and gaining + more as that is what most of us have been doing. It is not that hard to loose weight but keeping it off is hard. I tend to loose 10kgs and put on 15kgs so I am being sleeved on 10th May and can't wait even though I am nervous I am also excited. I haven't told many people as they can be quite judgemental as you have found out. Opti helps your liver shrink so best to stick to it if you can. Good luck with your decision. Cheers Shaz | |

| Hi there my name is Katrina and I will be sleeved on the 16th may, that's if I don't chicken out before that! Here is the thing I weight 88kg's and I am being jugde pretty hard for opting to have the sleeve op but what people don't realize is that I was 126kg's and I personal trained 5 days a week an hour a day and I got down to around 79kg's, it was not realistic to train like that for the rest of my life so I choose the sleeve! ( now I have that off my chest to the rest of the world I feel a little better:-) ) So Silly me for trying to share my journey with the people around me, all it has done is made me think twice about having the op and with that I have not been sticking to my optifast diet AT ALL :-( will I still be eligible for the sleeve ? Am I the light's person ever to have it done? Am I doing the right thing? I have all these questions going around in my head! I would love to hear from anyone with one or more of these problems/ questions! Katrina xx | |
