| Hi everyone, Thank you all for this thread. I too am experiencing hair loss. I'm just over 8 weeks out. I have very fine thin hair and can't afford to loose what little I have. But I guess that it's all par for the course. I'm noticing that it's on my shoulders and alot more in my brush than normal. Can anyone recomend a really good stylist on the Northern end of the Gold Coast. Someone who does really nice inverted bob haircuts. I'm told this is one of the few cuts that makes fine hair look thick and full... take care Andrea | |

| Hi All, Have been going thru some older blogs on hair loss and found this one from Caz. Thanks Caz I have been so concerned about hair loss. Mine is past my bottom and I do love it. Very vain I know but oh well. Im going to be taking Swisse hair nail and skin vitamins from now on in the hopes it helps as a prevention. Will have to do more research on the rest. Dietician for me tomorrow so will be takin my list with me. Thanks again Caz. I have just been back through the hair loss threads and thought I would list all the things people suggested worked for them.
It appears that the worst time for hair loss is months 2-4 and most people find it sorts itself out starting from month 6.
Google "Telogen Effluvium" for more information on what causes hair loss.
Various people have tried the following:
Supplements & Diet: Make sure to have at least 70 to 80gms of protein a day Blackmores Hair, Nail and Skin Q-Silica tablets Vitamin A Vitamin E1000 Zinc Extra Rogaine Whey protein powder that is low in carbs and sugar and high in protein, and has some biotin and silica Zinc tablets (high dose – 200mg per day) Vitamin D (which helps absorb calcium) - Ostelin capsules Arcon Tisane Fenugreek seed extract (which is also in Arcon Tisane) Biotin Magnesium http://www.care2.com/greenliving/natural-solutions-for-hair-loss.html
Shampoos Kerastase Specifique - Bain Prevention (supposedly stops hair loss) Scalp massages as they increase the blood flow Nioxin shampoo, conditioner and treatment

| It is definitely the telogen efluvium described below. That is why it basically appears to last for 3 months.
The good thing is that the hairs are falling out because the new ones are pushing them out, so for every hear you lose, there is a new one on the way - it will just take a while for it to show.
Janette - I was afraid of losing my hair after the TT but it hasn't happened yet. I'm nearly at the 4 month mark now.

No due to major surgery and rapid weight loss. I am losing my hair again after having a tummy tuck!!

| I'll be getting some tomorrow. My hair has been thinning for years and I'm just over six months post surgery and it is getting thinner. Funny that, some jerk specialist told me 20 years ago my hair was thinning because I was fat! Now I've lost 30 kilos and it's still thinning ... he must have gotten his degree out of a cereal box. | |

| Newlife - thank you for sharing that, I am going to try some Blackmores Hair Skin and Nail. I think that my hair has begun to fall out at a faster rate (even though I am only a month and a half out from surgery) as I have begun to notice a whole long swathe of it in my brush each day, and the bathroom floor looks incredibly hairy. Yikes. Mentioned it to my husband, and he said that he has noticed it too, as it gets stuck to him in bed - very funny as he is so bald he shaves his head, so perhaps I can collect it and make him a wig!
See, I am making jokes like my hair falling out doesn't bother me at all. ha.

| My hair fell out pretty badly between 3-6 months post op, and my hair is very long and fine but lots of it (and no I didn't get it cut, just put up with it and wore it up a fair bit. lol). It is now fully regrown no problem (and was fully regrown just on or about 12 months post op, maybe longer, but can't remember). What I did take was Blackmores, Hair Nail and Skin product which did seem to help stimulate regrowth. I took that for about 12-18 months. One extra benefit of taking Hair, Nail and Skin was that my nails grew super quick as well and were hard as. lol. It replaces some of the iron etc that you loose. anyway seemed to work for me. | |

| Mine is falling out, noticeably, and is being noticed by others.
My hair is thick, afro and curly.
Now its thin, receeding and paper thin wispy. I look like a balding man.
Ive cried and cried about it.
The hairdressers have tried to sell me every product under the sun and I refused. Its a load of crap. Its not the condition of my hair at all. Its what Im eating (or not eating) that is the problem.
I dont eat ANY red meat, I dont eat alot of vegies (cant fit them in). I get so worked up about protein that I forget about iron.
So, Im heading to the GP soon for other reasons as well as my hair loss and will ask for some blood tests to be done to check some levels. Im not feeling well either so something must be going on.
Im almost at the 6 month mark which concerns me as its not showing any signs of stopping. I have 6 bandanas and I wear them all the time (but obviously I cant wear them to work).

| Well I have an appointment at the hairdressers on Monday morning to get it cut shorter, my hair is so fine already so will be very noticeable if much more comes out. She did give me a tip of using a silk pillowcase its not so abrasive as cotton for your hair! | |

| Still have lots of hair, it's just thinned out a LOT. I totally notice it and so has my husband and hairdresser. It's mostly the e nds that you can really tell, not so much my scalp.
I'm really contemplating getting it cut shorter and 'flickier' to stop noticing it so much lol

| I lost more than I normally do and my hair is by no means thick, but pretty much no-one noticed - just me. Then it stops and grows back. | |

| OMG I am now freaking out!!!!! I dont want my hair to fall out. Is it noticeable to other people? I have thick hair now so I can afford to loose some but i dont want to wind up all depressed if I go completely bald or something.....nothing I can do about it though cant have everything I suppose. Cant wait for my surgery and to start loosing weight to make this all seem worth it. Scarry stuff!!! :) Pumba | |

| Everyone is different, some don't lose their hair at all.
Mine didn't fall out in clumps, but I used to have a dozen or so hair in the comb, plus what I used to brush off my clothes.
It fell out for about 3 months, and I got quite thin, could see my scalp. It was quite obvious to me, although no one ever commented on it. I had no bald patches. I just didn't get it cut so short and had hair cuts more frequently, until it started growing back and thickened up again.
I don't think anything I did helped!

| I'm now at the 3 month mark, as of next week. My hair started falling out this week, though I wasn't sure if it was from the WL or what was done to my hair.. How much falls out and is it obvious? I don't want patchy bald spots. Scared. :( | |

| I found I lost hair between the 3-6 month mark and then it stopped falling out. It made no difference what I did, it just wanted to fall out. Apparently the surgery gives the hair folicles a shock and they release all at once, instead of over a period of time like they usually do.
But it all grew back - just took time.
Well worth it though, that's for sure!!!
