| Fantastic Greg.
I have just had a lovely holiday on the Sunshine Coast and like you had a couple of glasses of wine each night with a few nibblies and when we went out for dinner had a couple of cocktails during the evening but unfortunately I didn't lose weight like you - have virtually stayed the same. As you say it is nice that we can still enjoy a drink and have a few nibblies and a small meal later. It's just so great to have this tiny tummy and still be able to go out and enjoy the food and have a couple of drinks. hugs Jilly

| Awesome Greg
I also went to a wedding - but it wasn't as extensive as yours. I made choices (it was one of those alternating things where they hand out an even number of each meal) and had prawns and chicken. Didn't finish the chicken, but no-one cared! And I wasn't the only one eating small amounts - when you actually do eat less, you realise a lot of the slimmer people around do the same thing.
And I also lost weight despite going out! (and I had wine too).

| Hi Guys,
This is not about what I ate yesterday but what I DIDN'T EAT last weekend..I would like this little exercise to show that life after the sleeve can be very normal, and not to be scared of what you can eat and drink out in public..
I am just past 8 months since I had my surgery, and everything has been fairly rosy, I have lost weight, although it has slowed (after reading the next few lines you may realize why) I have kept it off, I have gone off most of my meds and I feel fine..
WELL last weekend we travelled 5 hours to Bundaberg for a dear friends wedding..They are both nearing their 60's and it is not the first time around for either of them, in fact I think it is her 4th time!!! The wedding was on the Saturday pm BUT we had a meet and greet BBQ (finger stuff) on the Friday night AND an early commers BBQ on the Thursday night as well...Sooooooooo!! how did I go??
I don't drink beer or champers anymore BUT any of you who have red my diary, know I am quite partial to a wee drop of wine, either red or white it doesn't matter!! On Thursday I had a few nibblies followed by a small steak, small boiled potato and a bit of salad all over a couple of hours washed down (not literally) by3 or 4 glasses of wine..everything was fine although I got a bit tipsy a bit quicker than in the past, when it probably took 2 to 3 bottles for the same effect.
Friday night, a similar amt of alcohol with mini sausage roll, dip & bickies, sushi (2 or 3 one inch thick) puff pastry pizza thingos, chicken tenderloin skewers, 2 or 3 chicken wings..
Sat wedding, a bit more alcohol,(it was a special occassion) plenty of nibbles and 3/4 of a lamb rack...beautiful!!
What I am trying to say here is that you can still go out to dinner or a function with a sleeve and fit in with the crowd and enjoy yourself, I ate exactly what I wanted (a lot less than before though) and drank what I wanted and had a better time, as I felt people wern't staring at me anymore as I am now skinny!!!!!!
And guess what I still lost weight for the fortnight.
Am I pleased? you betcha!!!
Cya

| Lynette I hope your mouth is better soon......it must be that time of year for tooth troubles, hubby needs extensive work done but has to wait for approval from vet. affairs and his youngest sister is in the process of waiting for extensive work on a front tooth, she can hardly eat as front tooth broke of below gum level and she is now going through process of an implant but the waiting time for getting into specialist in dental is worse than in medicine, but, as she said it is giving her time to save up for it!! Yesterday.....hubbies birthday, brekkie- 1/2 glass juice with pills, then milk coffee, then 1 slice cafe style raisin toast with butter dont think we had morning tea as we had to go out for a while then when we came home had another milk coffee with these really yummy biscuits I have had in the pantry for a special occassion. From aldi they are chocolate rocky road and just melt in your mouth......warning, only buy if you have someone who will share them or eat leftovers for you!!! Then I figured I better have some lunch as I wasn't really hungry but just thought I shouldn't let myself get there, had sardines in spring water on sour cream and chives rice thins and drizzled mayo on top. Went down alright but wasn't able to finish the whole 2!! Then dinner, we went out with the rest of the family to local sports club, I had a fishermans basket and manages 2 squid pieces, 1crumbed oyster,2/3 small piece of fish,2 chips, 1 piece tomato and 1 small prawn, also had a glass of white wine which I sipped and it lasted me about 2 hours. I left so much on my plate it was a little embarrassing but I was able to fob off some chips and hubby ate the prawns and he put the other bits of squid on his older sisters plate for her! Then when we came home we had another milk coffee though smaller, had some more rice thins and then while I watched Aussie Ladette to Lady I peddled in the dark so I had no idea how far or how long till after the show finished. 10.1km and 39 minutes! Hope today is as good. | |

| Happy Birthday for yesterday NannaDee, I think you dun good food wise that day. Well done.
Yesterday. bf: 150mls apple juice for tablet taking at home, Up & Go at work. Lch: Prawn wonton soup (5 prawns) At: 1/2 rasberry muffin Dnnr: Chicken and mushroom pasta bake (tiny serve), chewing was a bit of an issue cause of teeth. Naughties: 3 while chocolate tim tams spaced apart over a few hours (new and just too yummy and melts in your mouth - won't buy those again in a hurry - kids ate the whole packet real quick, I know I shouldn't have and felt sick afterwoods, serves me right for being a pig) and a bit of chocolate going to bed (will she never learn). Water (with a bit of apple juice), coffee, tea etc during the day.
In a bit of pain atm, think I will go home. Swollen sore jaw on left (tooth extraction on Wednesday), sore tooth/gum on the right (yet to be fixed, that's next week), disc in neck is out big time (pain spasms going down arm and shoulder blade), numb face on the right (probably because of neck), and swollen glands. Oh and lower back disc is out too, so pain in the ass and legs. Sorry for venting feeling like s****t.

| Hey Linda, I agree with you about the vitamins, some Dr's prefer us to take it in tablet or capsule, others via having opti, but I was just reiterating how important it is in the healing process not to miss these while we are in "adjustment" phase, just becasue we may not have the variety in our diets to begin with. But I agree with everyone that the blood tests are important, because its one easy way the Dr's can see whats happening inside us, I'm just not the biggest fan of needles, as after my 2nd post op stint in hospital I ended up with lots of cannula's for drips because I was back to nil by mouth, and they had to try a couple of times, every couple of days when they had to re-site them. But I had my H1N1 fluvax the other day... (my employer- Dad said I had to have it!) but I have been known to try and wheedle my way out of needles! | |

| Yes Jo it is all very interesting about me having high ferritin levels as all my bloods were normal pre-op and now suddenly I have low Vit D, high cholesterol and high ferritin levels. The Doc told me to cut down on meat protein for a few months and then she is going to check them again to see if I have haemochromotosis. As I said before I have been eating quite a bit of protein (as that has been drummed into my head from the start of this journey) so with a drop in protein will see if it is still high. I had a hysterectomy when I was only 31 so I can't get rid of my blood unless I donate regularly.
I think it is important to do the blood tests approx 6 months out even if taking Vitamins - I have been taking a multi vitamin - because a few sleevers post op have found to be low in Vit D and a rise in our cholesterol levels. Seem you have haemochromotosis Jo I think it would definitely be beneficial to get regular blood tests. hugs Jilly

| Interesting Jilly. I have haemochromotosis, it was diagnosed a few years ago after some routine blood tests with a nutritionist I was seeing to assist with my weight.
It turns out my parents are both carriers and my brother was also diagnosed with having it. Lucky for him he did because otherwise he would have been a very unwell boy..his iron levels were massive and had to donate twice a week initially to bring the levels down. Fortunatley being female the regular blood letting process (!) seems to keep things pretty much in check for me..until menopause when I will have to more closely monitor things.
I'm seeing my surgeon next Friday and will ask him about the best plan of attack. I will probably just have to get blood tests a bit more regularly in the post op months.
