PostSubject: Pregnancy with the sleeve   Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 2 EmptyTue 23 Sep 2008, 12:18 am

First topic message reminder :

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who has been pregnant since having the sleeve or knows of anyone who has? If so how did you go eating wise? I can't seem to find anything on this anywhere, only pregnancies with gastric bypass...

Thanks :)

I have definitely considered the ice blocks. They were my life line after my sleeve surgery, I started with half zooper doopers, then full ones. I ate them for months and months. Glad the weather is warming up again because it makes it a lot easier to eat them.

Pretty sure i still have some in the freezer.

Thanks for the reminder

Hape2cu, If your not enjoing fluids much at the moment try things like watermelon and ice blocks to try and boost your fluid intake.

Good luck xox

Thanks Shan,

Well we had the second scan, all good so far. Having another in 3 weeks time so by then ill be 10 weeks, and hopefully we can see more. I think i'm having so many early scans because of the dehydration.

Funny how taste buds change so much, and that's one of the main reasons i'm struggling to drink fluid. I think ALL drinks taste disgusting now, and i've never liked plain water.

And it is amazing how losing weight can affect PCOS. I wasn't even having periods at my heaviest, but gradually they did come back, but took a while to become semi normal.

Congratulations Hape2cu. I have a friend who suffers from pocs and she was told that she would never have children but with the help of a natropath and loosing a lot of weight which she did the old fashioned way. She now has three beautiful children aged 7 to 3 months and I remember the joy and excitement with each of those pregnancies. I don't know you but reading your post I feel that same joy and excitement for you and your husband.

I have had a c section and a natural birth and I have to say I was petrified of pushing a baby out but if you keep calm, breath and let your body do what it was built for you'll do great. My advice would be to look into some hypno birthing or calm birthing classes. There wern't any in my area but I read alot about it and asked questions on the hugies forum. It helped alot.

I wish you the best of luck with your pregnancy and birth. Please keep us updated.

PostSubject: Finally Pregnant   Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 2 EmptyTue 11 Sep 2012, 5:53 am

Hi Everyone, Im nearly 2 years post sleeve and lost 40kg. I am finally pregnant Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 2 120705 I am only 6-7 weeks, but i am 35 years old and this is my first ever pregnancy, so i'm happy to share on here. Had a scan on friday because i am suffering severe dehydration due to the sleeve. I cant stand the taste of any fluid right now as i feel sick all the time, but i have been given some really expensive pills that seem to be working. Another scan tonight, so im looking forward to that.

I am now 70kg have actually lost 3kg since i found out i was pregnant. I have been the same weight for the past year give or take a few kilos either side. I have PCOS and a blocked tube and we are just so happy we avoided IVF (for the cost sake). We were only going to give ourselves another 2 months of trying on our own.

So im really scared of the whole pregnancy thing, but im more than happy to let people know how it goes for other peoples reference.

One thing i hated about all the weight loss was my boobs became empty hanging socks. already im back to an F cup Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 2 878453 My husband is happy except i wont let him touch them cause they are killing me. I hope they stop growing now until the end.

Once having children is out of the way i then want to get my nerve to have a tummy and boob job. But despite having had so much surgery in my life, hospitals scare me to the point of really bad anxiety attacks. But ill worry about that when i get to it. Gotta make sure i dont have anxiety attacks about giving birth, but i dont see that happening. Im terrified of being uncomfortable at the end and of course the actual giving birth.

Anyway hopefully i can ready other peoples stories too and keep myself calm

PostSubject: Re: Pregnancy with the sleeve   Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 2 EmptyThu 06 Sep 2012, 10:40 am

hi everyone :) im a newbie to the forum and am after some advice,

i'm 17 months post op and 26 weeks pregnant.

so far i have gained 3.1 kilos which i am not overly concerned about (however i have seen many stories of woman still losing during their pregnancy, but trying to not let my pride get in the way of my emotions) of course my health care providers are happy i am having some gain etc

my concern is tho that i am hungry all the time. i havent experienced true hunger like this since before my OP and its really hard to ignore it. is this normal? and more importantly when the baby is out, will this go away? honestly atm it feels like im not even sleeved at all. i still have restriction but not as much as there was prior to the pregnancy.

im looking for some reassurance that once the baby is out, the 24/7 hunger will stop. it's freaking me out :(

thanks in advanced

PostSubject: What's better - c-section or vaginal birth?   Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 2 EmptyThu 16 Aug 2012, 4:21 pm

Hi girls, I want to try for a baby later this year but am freaked about giving birth "the old fashioned way" but a c-section doesn't actually appeal either? This is of course assuming I get a choice - what would you choose?

Is sex ever the same/good after a vaginal delivery? Since I survived the sleeve surgery is a c-section just as easy?

All opinions/experiences welcome!

PostSubject: Re: Pregnancy with the sleeve   Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 2 EmptySat 11 Aug 2012, 12:44 am

Hi ladies,

I guess I will be joining this thread too! I am now 12 weeks today due 23rd Feb. I am over 20kgs lighter this time around from my last two pregnancies and I must say that I feel much better. I did get the overwhelming early pregnancy tiredness to start with and have had 24/7 nausea, especially when I eat. The tiredness is lifting so I feel much better. I hope the nausea will lift soon too as eating hasn't been much of a joy. I am trying to eat small frequent meals to make sure I am getting enough nutrition in.

Its going to be quite an experience with the sleeve this time. I have just finished my midwifery diploma and saw quite a few ladies with lap bands that were loosened for pregnancy but haven't come across any pregnant sleevers....or that I know of!. So I am interested to see how the sleeve goes with us all.

Congratulations Elle on the wonderful news. I probably am not much help as my two pregnancies were without the sleeve, BUT after the first 12 weeks of the most incredible sickness ( I was hospitalised and drip fed etc) the 2nd trimester saw me eating like a machine. My Specialist at the time explained that weeks 12 to 20 are the maximal time for need for the growing bub, so I say just go with your instincts if you feel like you need it then you do...your entry shows really healthy food choices today so I dont think its any problem at all, just think healthy babes need to grow thus you need to eat...and drink!

Enjoy this special time, I really hope all goes well for you, take care and big hugs

hahaha! Thanks so much PM! Its still a massive shock but boy we are SOOOO excited!

Just a quick question out there ... How much did you guys eat while pregnant?? I've gone from the last 5 weeks not really eating anything (and if i did eat it would generally come back up) but today i have been a machine! I'm unstoppable!!

Morning (7.30-10.30am)

Two homemade blueberry and bran muffins - nice and healthy but 2?

Mid Morning snack (11.30am)

Small bread roll with cheese, tomato and pickles!

Lunch (1.30pm)

Half a can of spinich and potato soup and half a small bread roll

afternoon (3.00pm)

one medium apple (but this didn't cut it)

four vita weets with cheese tomato and pickles!!

What's happening! I've never consumed that much in a day ever! Its now 3.45pm and i could eat again!!! Ohhh man!!

Plus i've had 1.2ltrs of water from 7.30am?

Is this normal? Can anyone help?

Hi Everyone ...

I know it could be a little early but i wanted to jump in this thread and say ….. we are having our first BUBBA!!

I'm only 10 weeks along but just so so excited and of course full of questions and nerves!

The overwhelming thought being "Is the baby still in there" its a long time between scans so i can't wait for our first OBGYN appointment on Thursday, hopefully we will hear the heartbeat.

I sat yesterday and read all 22 pages of this topic and they are filled with love, hope and a bit of sadness but i enjoyed every page!

Feel free to give any advice where you can!! I am now 12 months out from being sleeved and have lost over 50kg's although being pregnant and still 96kg's is a little scary. I think that still puts me in the "high risk" category which makes me a little sad. I was hoping to have lost a bit more before we had this news but, although it was a shock, it is absolutely AWESOME!!

Dad to be wakes up every morning kissing my belly and saying hi to bub ... i don't have the heart to tell him that he's just kissing wobbly loose skin at the moment! :)

Anyway ... enough ranting from me but any advice would be welcome :)

Again I am truly sorry. What caused the infection? I am so sorry if i am asking too much. May I pm you?

I didn't put on any weight, but I also didn't have a successful pregnancy. It ended at 18 weeks.

Please note everyone, me losing my baby was NOT sleeve related. I have had multiple miscarriages over the last few years, and I also had to deliver my daughter at 8 months (4 years ago) because her heart had stopped.

Nothing related to weight.

Oh no, I am so sorry. **big hugs** May I ask what happened?

Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Pregnancy with the sleeve   Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 2 EmptyThu 12 Jul 2012, 2:00 pm

I had baby 4 wks ago.

I got pregnant 5-6 mths out from surgery. I was only just able to eat anything when I started pregnancy, my capacity did increase a but but I don't know if that was pregnancy or just that I healed some more.

Toward the end of pregnancy capacity reduced again, what little tummy I had was squeezed and I found drinking hard again like just after surgery , really had to sip, sip, sip and eat small every hr or two, but had a normal sized baby ( 6#14 at 39 wks, my last pre surgery was 6# at 39 wks.

I started the pregnancy at 92 kg, lost to 78 within the first 16 wks, then stopped losing and stayed at that till 34 weeks, when I moved interstate. I then lost 3 kg over the last mth, down to 75kg.

Since having baby I've lost another 10 kg, 71.6 altogether lost since surgery, 27 since getting pregnant, am breast feeding without hassles, baby growing and I can drink fine now since baby and can't eat a lot but can eat much more than in the last mth. I eat every couple of hrs and try to focus on protein.

Hope it helps

Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Pregnancy with the sleeve   Pregnancy with the sleeve - Page 2 EmptyTue 26 Jun 2012, 11:14 am

Hi all,

Ive just checked in after about a year's break from the forum. I was sleeved in Canberra on May 3rd 2010, and my second child, William, was born on May 2nd 2011!!! Talk about a whirlwind year lol. I cantell you, Alice, that I would HIGHLY recommend waiting sometime before trying to fall pregnant. My pregnancy was a surprise, but not unwelcome. I started at 120kg at day of surgery and had lost about 20kg when I fell pregnant. I continued to lose during the first 14 weeks of pregnancy, then stablised for some time before finally gaining in the last 6 weeks. All in all I weighed less at the end of pregnancy than I did at the beginning but had a healthy 7 and a half pound boy with a very easy natural labour at 39 weeks. My first child, Isabelle, was a very long and quite traumatic labour and I think my weightloss and increased fitness played a very large roll in helping my second labour to be straight forward, and textbook. It was great.

However, my weightloss since giving birth over a year ago has been virtually non-existent. Im "stuck" at 88kg. Im not unhappy, but disappointed that my body has settled here after birth. I dont put on weight easily, which is good, but weightloss is really hard now and I believe that falling pregnant so soon after the surgery has played a BIG role in the difficulty.

So, my advice is to wait as long as you can (a year would be ideal). Or get as close to your goal as possible before falling.....because its easier to concentrate on yourself when you dont have a tiny baby needing you all the time :) Good luck :)
