| I too have experienced hair loss. My first thought was not enough protein, which is probably true, but only minimally so. Secondly, stress--and I have definitely had some lately. Finally, my hair stylist told me this week that you lose hair when you go under anesthesia--a certain amount for every hour you're under. She assured me that my hair would grow back--although I'm not sure how long it will take. She also said that Nioxin is a possible solution but doesn't recommend it for me at this point. My dr. recommended Rogaine.

| Hey can anyone give me some helpful hints on slowing down hair loss... Since loosing 43kgs in 6 monthsi guess that this side effect is just a negative, however i am wanting any helpful hints from people who have dealt with this issue.
I am having my daily protein shake supplement plus a centrium and biotin tablet (thisis for hair and skin). Any other points would be of great help.
Cheers | |

| Hi All
New here but sleeved in January, hairloss is up and down now but was really bad for a number of months, still can be if I drop my protein in take. Weird thing is the new hair is growing back curlier than it used to be :[img]http://sm Have no idea what that is about. Anyway I cut my hair shorter as it seemed to stop the stress on the hair a bit and the hair dresser recommended scalp massages (As they increase the blood flow) seems to be helping.

| Sorry, Hayley, I have no idea, but I'm guessing the health food shop is the place to go for whey. I've been slack with my vitamins too, but am trying to get back into them, now that I can swallow more! I use a special compound that meets my specific needs, and zinc is a large part of that - but not for hair loss! Sometimes I worry about getting enough protein too, but I can eat twice as much as you, Steph, so mostly I think I'm okay. I do have some protein powder as a backup, though I haven't used it in a while. Chris | |

I hope it helps for you.
Speaking of keeping up our protein I am guilty of not getting enough.

steph Thanks Steph!! I will bump up my zinc intake. I have not been that regular on my vitmins throughout my sleeved life, but am now making much more of an effort. Hayley

| Thanks Cinni!! I have never thought about whey! And you know its such a shame that the majority of whey is either poured down the drains, or used as a milk by-product in other things. It even goes back to the milking cows for nutrients. Does anyone know the best form to get it in?

| I was told to get 50 grams of protein a day. Right now I am probably down to 8 grams at most. If you don't get enough protein you body will attack your muscles for nutrition including your heart. Plan accordingly. | |

| Hi all,
I just read on another forum that someone recommends taking zinc tablets for hair loss. She said that she took 2 a day for 4 weeks and then 1 a day and within a month it had fixed her hair. Apparently it is caused by a zinc deficiency according to her doctor.
I don't have a problem with hair loss but this might help some one.

| Jodi,
At the moment it is scary hairloss but is seems to happen to very few people so do not stress too much and I did have 2 operations within 6 weeks of each other so I had the added body stress which may have done it. I do not have bald patches as such, it is being considerate and falling out all over, I have gone from very thick hair to having my scalp visable through it, I am told this may last for a couple of months but should grow back.. Failing that I will be off to my GP again next week to go to a specialist to see if there is another cause as the increase in protein etc does not seem to be doing the trick but I may just be too impatient too!! :[img]http://sm

| I am loosing heaps of hair Hayley so I can commiserate, in fact I have just had it cut short as the back was looking very shabby. I have been to see my gp and dietician on the issue and both agreed with increasing protein and zinc. Although I have mostly protein for each meal, surprisingly it was still not nearly enough as the average women needs a minimum of 50 gr of protein each day (according to Nikki) I have started on one spoon of protein powder in my yoghurt each day and they said this should take about a month to turn things round. I will unfortunately be BALD by then, but I have to give it a go. I will increase zinc if the protein does not work alone but apparently taking zinc tablets can make you feel very ill. I have found vitamin tablets with a reasonable zinc content and I take echinacea with zinc so hopefully this will be enough. Cathy | |

| I went and bought whey protein powder, its expensive (about 55.00 a tub) from a health food store, brand is red bak , dont worry about brand but, just get one with low carbs and sugar and high protein, and some biotin and silica. Body builders use this stuff to build up muscles , we need the same amino acids for hair and nails.

| Hey hayley
Dont worry to much , it will settle and if you have long hair it always (mines long ) looks like heaps more. And once your weight loss and body settles into a comfortable spot your hair will thicken up again. it will probably last about 3-4 months then settle.
Get a really good protein supplement from a health food shop, biotin and silica. This should help heaps, these products are the amino acids hair and nails need for growth.
sharon Ps . Does anyone take a regular protein supplement (every day ), it also helps with loose skin , help to keep muscles from wasting with weight loss

| Thanks for starting this thread.
I don't have a problem with hair loss, touch wood, and I know I don't get enough protein but so far so good. I have got really thick hair anyway so probably wouldn't notice the loss but all the same the first sign of a problem and I will be out there buying the products mentioned and getting stuck into the protein as much as possible.

sharon Hey Shazza,
You can get Nioxin treatments and shampoos from Hairmart if you are a Proffessional in the beauty industry, the other way you can get it, is to ask your hairdresser to order it in for you and get it that way. You could also get it off Ebay. It is pricey, but our hair is so important to us, I know... I cant stand pulling out wads of hair in the mornings after a shower. Its really really gotten bad in the last few weeks, and its so scarey. Heres a link to their site... have a look on ebay too though.. you will get it WAY cheaper on Ebay than through your hairdresser, as all hairdressers feel the need to bump prices up by 200% to cover broken nails and things..lol. (jokes) Ok, here is the link. And I will give a good review of this stuff when I start using it, and explain alot more about the product once I am a little more edumacated on it. HayleyNioxin
