| Okay, asnewme, you have to tell us now! The preferred age for weight loss surgery over here is 18-55, and although they do go outside that range occasionally, it's not usual. So now you have to tell -how old are you? I'm 51 - and I have 9 grandchildren, with another on the way. I was 17 when I was married (the first time) and had a daughter when I was 19. Yes, we were too young- but we didn't think so at the time! LOL The other 3 children and 6 grandchildren come from my second husband's prior marriage. Chris | |

| I have been sailing along here in my little Bedford bubble, thinking that there a a lot of people on this forum that are older than me because............well because they are talking about taking care of their grandkids. Now I find out that they must have been having babies themselves when they were just out of their own diapers and I am the oldest woman here How old am I??????????????????????????????? Very, very, very old | |

| Hi Lafra, I'm Lou aged 42. I had a band put in 2000. I too have had the same problems as yours and put up with it for way too long due to fear and stupidity. I have just recently been sleeved and although it is very early days I can already notice the difference. I too was advised that I had a greater chance for complications but I am pleased to say that all went well. I felt like I was hit by a truck for the first 5 days, day 6 I felt like I hadn't even had surgery. Which is a far cry from when I had the band put in. (6 weeks in hospital)
Lafra remember 40's are the new 30's, you are not too old. Our lives are just starting. Thats how I feel anyway.
Good Luck
Lou. | |

| Hi again... as I have previously said I am 47yo... it is great to read about others my age and older that are happy and losing weight. I have been concerned because of my age and back in 1999 I had banding done but so much went wrong with that. In early 2006 it was repositioned and then in August 2006 I had to have my stomach repaired because of stomach erosion and the band had to also be removed. I currently weigh 113kg and the Doctor has just agreed to do the sleeve surgery... booked for the 5th September 08. He said that I am at higher risk of something going wrong because of the scaring that I have on my stomach. How long does it take to get over the surgery... and it appears that the weight loss is quite significant in the first month of having the surgery done. Thanks for your time...and I am interested in other peoples experiences.
