| Thanks so much apple, I actually understand now! Unfortunately I am a serial yoyo dieter, so will be interesting to see how it all goes when the time comes. Thanks again. | |

| take your current weight then substract the your weight as it would be at a bmi of 25 then work out 70% of that and deduct that off your current weight. There are LOTS of factors involved in getting lighter than that. If you have never been over about 110kg your chances are VERY high at reaching a bmi of 25 give or take a couple of kg. From what I have seen about half those starting at that weight have to watch what they eat for the last 5-10kg and do a bit of exercise, the rest just get there. For those who start at between above a110 and below about 150kg most if not all will have to work hard to lose the last 10-15kg and a more realistic bmi is around 27/28. For those that started over 150kg I think I can count on one hand those who have just got to a bmi below 30 the rest have to work their butts off to do and their hard work can start closer to 20kg out and a more realistic bmi for them is about 30. Tho if you want to work really hard you can beat this, or you can just get lucky and beat this. Everybody has to reintroduce food back to their new stomach, you slowely do this. Now a small percentage of people get this amazing rush and just how little they can eat. it becomes an addiction and they just do NOT take the proper steps to move on to a more normal 250ml amount of food. This is not only not advisable but NOT healthy for you. It is VERY VERY addictive to see those scales keep going down and to finally have this amazing control over how little you can put in your mouth and survive. these people will drop huge numbers and very fast. You also have a small percentage of people who have done so much damage to their body though years of yoyo dieting or lapband starvation that their metebolic rate is soooooooooo messed up that they will have to live at close to optifast levels to lose weight and they will always have to keep an eye on what they eat. For some the only choice is going down the malabsortion road, meaning having a bypass. Actual failure of the sleeve is something that happens at the time the sleeve is done. If you can eat to much can not fill up etc etc within a month or two of your sleeve there is a serious problem. The sleeve has NOT been done correctly no amount of help here can fix that you need to see your surgeon. applesauce | |

| Just wondering if anyone can clear this up for me - if youre only expected to lose 60-70% of your excess weight, how does the surgeon calculate what your goal weight is? Is it the lowest end of the healthy weight range for your BMI? And why, then, can some people never reach goal, whilst others keep going well below theirs? | |

| I set my own goal too. It's towards the top of the healthy range for my height (I could have made it 67kg but 65kg made it a nice neat 100kg to lose LOL).
My surgeon said I could expect to lose 40-45% of my excess weight in the first year and 60-70% over two years. However, like Caz, I am a stubborn cow, so I chose not to accept that.
My dietician asked what my goal weight was and her eyes just about popped out of her head when I told her. Then she tried to talk me into something quite a bit higher.
Maybe I won't get there but I'm going to give it a red hot go and I can't see any point in aiming to get half way. I've already lost 47% of my excess weight and my surgeon told my hubby after my op that I am the most committed & determined patient he's had, so I think I'm in with a chance. | |

| Hi, I have set my goal weight myself, I think a realistic number I was my happiest at (many moons ago). My dr isn't stuck on numbers, I think impovements in co morbidites and being out of obese range for health is a goal in itself. He did mention though for me to set my goal a couple of k's lighter to give myself some wriggle room. But to be honest getting close would be a dream! How did you set your goal weight? Oh and Caz , congrats | |

| I set my own. My doctor told me I would be likely to lose "x%" of my excess weight - can't even remember the percentage now - but I've done more than that because I'm a stubborn cow and don't like to be told I can't reach my own goals - LOL! | |

| Yes Lib, can happen very quickly. You look wonderful, bet you feel like a new person :) I know I do. Just being able to walk into a shop and buy normal sizes and not get the look from a shop assistant :( I am sure you know the look. Well done to everyone who has made the decision to either have the sleeve or the band or anything else that has helped them lose weight. We all should be proud of ourselves | |

| WOOHOO GOAL WEIGHT in just 4 Months Can't believe it I am below the goal weight I set for myself. I am 69.9 kg and wearing size 10 I am over the moon. It must of been over 30 yrs since I weighed that or wore a size 10. Never thought I would see this day. Still have a bit of a stomach and flabby arms but hey I can live with that :):) Thank god for the Sleeve | |
