| Arna, in my Local Woolies, the natural protein is in the health aisle, next to the vitamins. They have it right on the bottom shelf, so would be easy to miss. I think they have vanilla & choc flavoured as well? :) | |

| This is a great thread - thank you! I went to Woolies yesterday looking for flavourless protein powder and i didn't have any luck. I'll try again and look for the Natures Way one - I assume it's where the other protein / diet shakes are?? | |

| just over 12 months post sleeve and fortunately never had to use protein powders as I was able to create purees using real stock and pulses such as canolini beans and chickpeas. I used shakes from Aldi which have protein and I also use protein boosted weetbix, chia seeds, small tins tuna and the occasional boiled egg. I can only tolerate beef if its been cooked in a slow cooker and is very soft but fortunately I have never been a big meat eater. still cant tolerate bread and pasta much

| I was told to use the following formula. Your weight x 0.8 = the amount of protein you should aim for daily. This obviously goes down as you lose weight.
I have a flavourless protein powder that I mix into my foods. The only thing I wouldn't suggest to mix it in is water as it seems to have a slight aftertaste.
If you add protein powder to things, bare in mind that it does bulk it up a little so you may not get in as much as you would without it.
Good luck! :) | |

| I was putting protein powder in my icy poles for a while, but I stopped a little while ago. I'm averaging around 50-70 grams per day mainly by just choosing high protein foods/snacks. So an average day is..
Brekky is either oats (5.5 grams) or a chobani yoghurt (14 grams) Morning/afternoon snack is either Cheese and crackers (6.9 grams) or a small tin of baked beans (6.2 grams) Lunch is my favourite thing ever, Woolies beef and vegetable soup (13.5 grams) Dinner is usually chicken or fish, averaging around 20 grams there.
And since I joined the gym, I've been going every night at around 9pm (not tonight though, it's Saturday!), so once I get home I might have another little tin of beans. Or a little tin of tuna with some chickpeas.. chickpea protein count is debatable, I don't have that many of them so tend not to try and work it out, but the tuna packs a very nice 19.2 grams, just in that little 130 gram tin! So it all tends to keep things at a good level for me protein wise. And my hair!

| Try the protein powders like everyone suggests, they can be a good boost.
I'm nearly 4 weeks out and I'm managing on average between 30-50g of protein a day by including cheese, eggs, yogurt etc in my meals/snacks which has been relatively easy and helpful. I'll probably incorporate something like the musashi range to give an extra boost as well. It's doable, just a bit tricky!

| There is also a protein powder available at woolies by Natures way it has no flavour and can be added to soups drinks etc. What I will say which may relieve you is that my dietitian said that women do not have to achieve so much 40-45 was plenty. When you start to look at that amount it is a whole lot easier. At 4.5mths if you try to just get that amount of protein I mean the greater amount you just can't fit much veg in and all protein long term is not good for the kidneys so stop knocking yourself out and if you have to try some of the powder etc and then eat both meat and veg or fruit.
Gee its such a mind field isn't it but it does get better in the long term when the stomach relaxes completely that can be several months.

| Hi Mr Mick Was this a commercial protein shake that you can purchase or do you just add protein power to milk/water? I can stand the Opti Shakes so need an alternative after my Op date Rox | |

| I am told we should consume between 60-70gms of protein every day, can anyone tell me what and how much they consume to reach this - I am 4 1/2 months post op and don't think I even get to half. Should this be a concern??? | |
