| Nini, out of curiosity, what did he say about your sleeve after the gall bladder op? |

| Hi,
Gall stones are very common in overweight people, (the old saying was that fair fat and over forty females got gall stones) but it is also triggered by weight loss. So weight loss surgery patients have a few risk factors against them.
But if this is the only complication I have then I count the Sleeve well and truly worth it.
cheers Nini
Ps sorry, I don't know why I have all the format numbers/letters added to my post it's not in my original posts. Weird.

I am a newbie also from Melbourne. Just considering surgery at this stage, thinking the sleeve would be the right option for me. Does anyone have any surgeon recommendations? I will search the forum for answer too :) Welcome!
I've chosen Mr Ian Michell at Epworth in Richmond. Have a look at the thread for surgeons, and there's one for him :)
I haven't had my surgery yet, but he and his team have been fabulous so far! I've felt looked after along the way, and he is very thorough with pre-op specialist appointments. The other good thing, is that most of them are in the same building as him - or closeby.
He was kind enough to agree to do my surgery even though I don't have full health insurance - which a lot of surgeons are not willing to do. He also performs any secondary sirgeries (eg: gall bladder) free of charge after the initial sleeve procedure.
So yeah, highly recommend him, but still pre-op so others might be able to provide more info than I can.
Good luck! xx - Nini wrote:
- Hi Katnik,
I can also recommend Mr Ian Michell. He has rooms in Niddrie and Richmond and operates at the Epworth or at Essendon Private Hospital. I was Sleeved last July and have been very happy with the results. I found Ian very thorough and kind. I was very impressed with his very small lap sites and the fact that I had absolutely no bruising after the surgery. He is a cautious surgeon and doesn't rush the assessment phase. He does use a drain to ensure early detection of any bleeding or leak. I found this very re-assuring.
Unfortunately for me I have developed gallstones so I have chosen to go back to Ian to have my gall bladder out. As I told him I didn't want anyone else messing about with my incision scars and he could check my Sleeve while he was in there! As BringBellaBack said he doesn't charge anything extra for the gall bladder op but I do have to pay the anaesthetist gap fee.
cheers Nini Thank you so much for the feedback, I have only just gotten private health cover, so will be waiting 12 months. I feel very nervous about sleeving being such a permanent thing and a little scared of risks and life afterwards, however, I have seen how many people it has helped, shedding so much weight and becoming a necessary tool for people to re-jig their approach to food. Why do so many have issues with gall stones afterwards?

| Obviously, I can only recommend my surgeon, Mr Draper. Love him, love his team. He operated on me at Peninsula Private in Frankston. | |

| Welcome to you Danni75, you really are fortunate you didn't get the band- nearly killed me. I am 3 and a bit weeks out from my sleeve so still on a big learning curve but already feel much healthier and more confident than I did with the bloody band. Best of luck- read the forums lots and ask as many questions as you need. We all learn from each other here. | |

| Hiya Danni,
Welcome to the forum.
My gosh you dodged a bullet by not getting the Lap Band .. they are evil little suckers.
Congrats on your choice to take control and start looking into a healthier you.
Bummer that you previously had trouble with a fatty liver, you'll have to be extra vigilant on the Optifast diet this time and perhaps even be on it for longer. Yucky I know but if you get your head around that fact now, when the time comes to do it you'll be stronger and more determined.
Actually I might do week or 2 of Opti with you (when you do it) in support and to reset my brain and tummy.
All the best with your research, Tara

| I have just started to research the sleeve operation, about 6 years ago I went into hospital to have the Lap Band but the surgeon could not do due to a fatty liver. At 39 years old and my first baby now 15 months, I have to do something. I look forward to hearing all the good stories and positive changes. | |
