| Hey Caz.
I too was taking Psyllium but have found that Normafibe works much better. It's the Normacol without the added plus of a laxative. Just one of two teaspoons a day with water will have you giving the elephants in the zoo a run for their money....if you get my drift. LOL.
I have found it hard to get in my local chemists but there's plenty at the online pharmacies.
Hope this helps. Glad the shampoo thing is working out for you too.

| I just discovered something else that has no doubt been contributing to my hair loss.
I've never taken laxatives in my life - until recently! I did some reflection and realised that I've been using them a little too much to keep the BMs moving. Apparently laxative 'abuse' also causes hair loss, and my loss has been more noticeable recently.
So no more laxatives for me except in the case of dire emergencies. I'm going to revert to psyllium husks instead - much healthier option I think.
By the way, the shampoo is working well - I like it very much.

| Hey Bella
If you can't find the shampoo, send me a PM and I'll get some for you in Sydney and send it to you.
I used it this morning - it smells great and my hair is much shinier than it was on the Redken shampoo I had been using. Let's see what happens!

| HI all I guess everyone has some degree of hair loss with this procedure and It didnt bypass me because I was litrally losing my hair by the hand fulls to the stage where i could no longer brush my hair wet or blow dry it. It became very dry and limp and dead looking and my fiance kept coming out with handfulls of my hair which he pulled from the drain hole and my hairdresser told me I shouldnt dye it at all. But hairs hair and im now 6 months out and am glad to say its improving. x Jodi | |

| I am also scrutinising my brush!
I take Q-Silica tablets - they don't have a taste. Also Hair and Nails tablets that I got from the health food shop. Hopefully they start working soon!
I agree Bella - it doesn't fall out in copious amounts, but my hair seems a little thinner. And I notice the occasional loose hair on clothes/face/mouth more often than I used to. I really don't mind if it is only a stage we go through!

| Heya gals !
Do any of the guys have this problem of hair falling out ? I haven't noticed any of them mentioning it......
I'm 4 1/2 post op now & Im a bit like you Caz ....feel like my hair is thinner but finding it hard to tell.....I haven't noticed it falling out in copious amounts and haven't had to scoop any up off the bathroom floor....but it just seems thinner & i keep cleaning my brush every day in a vain effort to monitor how full it gets after a few whips through the scalp - it seems a little more...but i never monitored my brush with this intense level of scrutiny pre-op so i cant compare it.
I have been taking QSilica since the start of month 2 post-op & keeping up my protein with Baked Beans etc & have just started in the last week taking protein bars..................but thanks for mentioning the shampoo Caz....if i can find it in Charters I will give it a go.....
But like Kalgirl says.....I agree its a small downside compared to the benefits of this surgery.....but i just dont want to lose too much of my hair either - :(
Just a warning.....if you are buying QSilica......read the label on the bottom of the box.....dont be a dufus like me & pick up the Lemon Grass flavoured tonic....instead of Original flavour ! Unless you like raw Lemon Grass... Who'd have thought to flavour something Lemon Grass ??? ack - getting used to it now.....i swallow pretty quickly though - hehe
Hugs... xx | |

| I just went and got some shampoo recommended - it is called Kerastase Specifique Bain Prevention - apparently it stops hair falling out (doesn't make it regrow but is for thinning hair).
I'll give that a go and hope the 6 months is the charm! I'll let you know how I go. It wasn't cheap, but if it works, it will be worth it!

| I too suffered a huge amount of hair loss between 3 and 6 months. Thankfully I had really thick hair to start with. It has only been the last couple of weeks that I have noticed that it has stopped falling out so hopefully I have turned a corner. I have also noticed a lot of new short fluffy bits in my hair where it is regrowing. | |

| I am like Kalgirl and we were sleeved the same month. Hair, all over the bathroom floor and wherever I sat, from 3mths - 6 mths and now getting back to normal. My hair thinned out at the top of the scalp but its all good now thank goodness. As to the shampoo's Caz, I'm a bit like BushGirl and mix my shampoos up - change every few months as I was told the same thing from a hairdresser - keep changing. I used to take Q-Silica regularly but have stopped now. hugs Jilly | |

I'll definitely try a new shampoo - don't care how much it costs!
I'm in month 5 at the moment, so perhaps things will settle down soon.
Sigh! | |

| Caz, I have medium/long hair and it falls out all the time, but maybe because its longer and dark i notice it more than short hair. I have noticed I had a bit fall out when I was on the drip only (no proteins) and there is a fluffy regrowth... its short and sometimes sticks up! (not too bad if its in a ponytail... more just when i straighten it) If I have an itchy scalp i use head and shoulders shampoo and cond for a couple of washes, and go back to normal stuff after about a week... a friend who is a hairdresser said you should mix up the shampoo you use every couple of months because your scalp gets used to it... not sure if its true, but I alternate anyway... sometimes I cant get the one I want so I try another. I have herbal essences "long hair" to try now, and the head and shoulders in the cupboard if needed.... But I must admit the herbal essences smell divine! (My mum bought me the green one in hospital and it was so lovely!) so ill stick with them for a bit... but they are on the expensive side so I try and get them on special and put one in the cupboard for later! rambling again...x | |

| my hair has finally come back to normal, 8 months out. months 3 to 5 were the worst - huuuuge amounts shed, covering the bathroom floor.
i took all types of hair and nail supps, kept up my protein etc, but still i maulted like a long haired labrador! i didn't try any shampoos.
apart from the protein levels being able to make a small difference, my dietician also explained that as we lose weight, our scalp shrinks, and the size of the follicle pores is in flux. so the hair that was once firmly anchored by our fat little heads no longer has that tightness to depend on. you just have to wait until everything settles into accepting the new skinny you!
but it's a bugger that only the hair on my head was effected!
i have lots of new fluffy bits now. it was a small, shortlived experience that i was happy to have, considering the benefits of the surgery.

| I have been noticing hair loss (not huge amounts) recently - my hair does seem to be thinner. So hard to tell though. I think there is regrowth happening - but again, hard to tell.
Has anyone found any shampoos that work well? I have been using the same shampoo for ages and my scalp has been a little itchy lately.
I'm taking supplements - how long does hair loss usually last. I am assuming it is a temporary thing. I'm getting protein in regularly.

| I've been thinking that saving money on haircuts (and waxing?!) should be added to the list of weightloss benefits - if we're looking for a positive spin! I usually go to the hairdresser because my hair is getting boofy rather than longer. No boofiness now .... but it is winter and hair grows slower in cold weather. But moulting white hair onto black jumpers and coats is NOT a good look.

| What the heck is a mirkin? A wig for pubes? Ditto with the chin hair Janey and Caz. It drives me insane, right now I can feel at least 8 of the little spikey suckers under my chin and my tweezers are no where to be found. I am home today with mild flu symptoms but won't put my elderly clients at risk. | |

| Hi Helen
I too have lost a fair bit of hair. It started falling out heaps, but not in clumps, at about 3-4 months post op. I am taking blackmores hair, nail and skin formula. I do have a fair bit of regrowth happening and it doesn't seem to be falling out quite as much as it did, although still too much for my liking. But that said, I am confident that it is a short term issue and that once my weight has stabilised a bit more, it will come back. Big fingers crossed, as I have long hair and it looks a bit wispy at the moment. My surgeon warned that it may happen, so I do try and keep my proteins up. Also take an iron supplement (as I am iron deficient which doesn't help the hair loss either) and a multivitamin.
