| hi, a couple of questions for previous Dr Layani patients!! :) Im due to be sleeved by Dr Layani in mid Jan. I am yet to see the dietician and psych yet, cant get in til week before surgery, so I am starting my Opti in new year, but I forgot to ask them, do they recommend to follow the diet exactly as it says - 3 shakes and 2 cups of veges? are you allowed to replace the shake with a bar or anything from that range. The office is closed til the 4th Jan so I cant ring and ask. Also, I received a quote from John Flynn for my stay (not in PHI) and it is over $2000 more than I was quoted from Dr Layani, so I dont know if I have asked to borrow enough super? Has anyone else had this happen to them. The main part is $8000 for prosethesis??? Would love if soemone could help, who has been through Dr Layani before. Thanks | |

Oh Heidi, what a cow!!! It doesn't matter if she was having a bad day, there's no excuse for talking to you like that. There are 3 or 4 Drs whose patients post here, who seem to have employed receptionists that are toxic b!#ches who seem to feed off making the patients feel as small and stupid and bad about themselves as possible. Please tell your Dr how you were spoken to, surely he can't know what she is like (I bet she's a nice as pie when he's around) and it can't be good for his business to have his clients spoken too like that. Sorry to rave, but it really makes me mad to hear about that. We are so vulnerable as we go through this and need support not patronising nastiness. Hugs - Carrie xxx

| Hey Kate,
I'm so excited for you! It will roll around so quickly.
I had my post op check-up with Dr Layani today and everything seems good. Taryn also had a quick chat with me. I have follow-up appointments in Feb.
I'm still on liquids but will persist with trying a few purée foods. I had a bit of an upsetting conversation with a lady at reception. I simply asked her what I should do if I get a repeat of some severe pain I experienced last week.
I wanted to know do I try to contact the rooms first before heading off to my GP or A&E? Can I call Dr Layani's mobile number out of office hours?
Instead she launched into a verbal tirade about how I wouldn't get pain if I "didn't do the wrong thing". She also said leaks never happen after 2 weeks. Not sure that's right??
I tried to explain that I had simply tried some mushy food. But she gave me this expression like I was some kind on monster. Her facial expressions through the whole conversation were just ridiculous. I explained I wasn't a moron and could follow instructions, I just really wanted to know what to do in the event I think something might be wrong.
I got half an answer but in the end just nodded my head and smiled and left as soon as I could. She speaks really loudly and slowly like she assumed I had some hearing or learning disability.
The other ladies there are lovely. Perhaps she was just having a bad day...
I am thinking of suggesting to Dr Layani that they do up their guidelines a little more comprehensively. Maybe include what to do if something feels wrong, signs of a leak etc... Otherwise I have this wonderful place to go to.
I went back up to the surgical unit at John Flynn and gave one of the nurses there a thank you card and a Hudsons coffee voucher. They were so lovely during my stay there and really went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable.
If I ever have baby no 2 I think I'll take the trip down from Hope Island and go to John Flynn.

| Hi Amanda And morning everybody. What a great day. Amanda I have another patient (lovely lady) I think will probably have her sleeve done the same day as you I have directed her to the site and hope she says Hi, I thought it would be great to have a buddy on the day and someone that you can keep in touch with to see how you are both going and maybe offer a little support to each other. I am going to pop over on the morning of your surgery, nothing like a catch up in your dressing gown and paper undies. he he he. | |

| Just catching up on posts. Sooo good to read the Layani links. :)
APRA approval is through. Pre-op appointments booked for 7th December. Hoping for surgery early January - just have to convince my boss to give me time off work.......
I am sooooo scared though. My lap-band surgery was an absolute nightmare and was removed 2 weeks post op.
But....I know that this is the beginning of my new life. I am going to be stuck like glue to this site.......xxxxxx

| Ohh thanks Heidi I get very nervous sharring my story,I think after being overweight for SO long I just went into every diet thinking I was going to fail, well not this time. I still get knockers (and I dont mean boobs) who say well your not skinny and you have more to loose, but I am not what I was and every kilo off should be celebrated I wont let anybody rain on my parade anymore. It is so lovely to have a supporting community and be there to help each other. It is wonderful to have people telling me how well I have done and not how far I have to go. So a huge BIG thankyou to you, it means the world to me.

| Hello everybody I have just joined this forum, I was speaking with a patient today and she told me how fantastic the community was on here. My name is Melanie I am actually a bander. But I now work at Dr Layanis surgery as the Patient relationship Officer. I am here for support, advice or just a chat. It is so nice to see so many of our patients on here, supporting each other on your weightloss journeys. I am organising a coffe morning for ALL Sleeve, patients band patients and their family or friends. Also for anyone wanting to chat with patients who have any kind of weightloss surgery. I will keep you advised of the date, I think after X-mas might be better as we are all now so busy organising x-mas functions. So keep up the good work, we are all in this together and have a great day. PS If you have any questions you want to ask me private or as an employee you can ask here or send a personal message if you prefer. Mel | |

I'm so excited! I'm seeing the surgeon, nutritionist and psychologist all in one go this afternoon. I'm hoping to book in for surgery asap. Oops... Pick the newbie. Trying to view forum on my iPhone. Sorry, looks like I have responded to the earliest post, not the latest. I blame nerves and excitement! I'm such a dag...

So u were sleeved the day before me, were u at John Flynn as well, if so what floor & room, we were poss near each other. As I was sleeved the day after. Are you going ok with the Optifast drinks now as well for the 2 weeks after the Op[/quote]
Hey Milko. Yes, I was sleeved on Thursday 8th at J.F. I was in room 206. I didnt do opti before surgery nor am I on it now. I am hating this liquid stage. But I have cheated a few times, like yesterday I had some mash potato & right now im having some water melon as I have been craving it all day. Very unusual for me to want fruit, I always crave sweets. I have done opti before & know how hard it is. Hang in there.

| Ok lets see how good my memory is.......i had my first appoinment with his nurse in October 2008 and it then took me over 12 months to see the other staff and Dr Layani........ i was very slack at doing that His nurse in Lismore is very good, she has actually had lapband surgery so she knows what you are going through after you see his nurse you then have to see his dietitian ....and then his Psychologist.....i saw both of them in Lismore as well these are rough prices i forget how much they were exactly Nurse = free Dietitian = $140 Psychologist = $240 after you see them you then get to see Dr Layani......you will have to go to Tugan to see him ......$225 i think they are all really good to talk too........i had a appointment with Dr Layani and the dietitian last thursday and they were free i am pretty sure everything is free for 12 months after surgery. best of luck with what ever you decide..... i am only a beginner here because i was only done 3 weeks ago. BUT I CAN HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT .......just wish i had of got it done years earlier......but i am on the right track now | |
