Excuse me . . . . .Kate dont you be building furniture you will make the rest of us look bad, you need to take it easy and let everyone around you know you are in pain and need lots of rest and help for about 10 weeks. No housework, no vacuuming, no cooking. ha ha ha
No really milk it as long as you can, I dont think we get looked after very often so lap it up.
I told my husband he was on house duties for 2 weeks and I needed light exercise this can be taken in the form of a slow walk around the shops. Shhhhhhhh dont anyone tell him otherwise.

I just met our new Hula mum she was in for her consultation I told her you are a wonderful bunch of girls and she could not get better support from you all so make sure to say HI when she is on.

Next week kids are back to school, dance, soccer and training and I start an extra day at WLSA. So let the craziness begin.

Have a great day.

Hey Kate,

I seriously think I've the dream run of all dream runs. ( I know I shouldn't have) but I was putting my bedroom suite together the day after I left hospital, doing washing cleaning like nothing had really happened.
They told me what room you were in but I forgot, I did go for a walk down the corradores, but I felt really bad snooping in the rooms as I walked past looking for you.
Lemonade ice blocks are the best!! I've been doing all the work round the house coz my boyfriend has been working 16 hour days since I have come out of hospital, so ive mostly been by my self. But I think its a good thing coz if he was home I would want to be doing stuff with him when I should be resting.
Since the op as of today I have lost 9kg's....not bad in 5 days!!!

I'm sure you will be fighting fit in no time!!!
Ps. Good bless your parents they sound so cute going out to buy there daughter ice blocks.

Hey Mel........thank you for calling in on Monday.....the extra day was good. The trip home was slow....and luckily I had a Zofran before I left.....the nausea was not crash hot.....never mind. Home safely

Mandy4848.....what room were you in? they wouldn't tell me..........privacy stuff......but I did get your message....:)

To be honest, I've been pretty crappy......my kidney area is quite painful...muscle stuff......hope it settles soon.. The pain from surgery is easing as is the nausea........now just trying to concentrate on fluid intake. Did a load of washing this am......put it in the dryer though.....couldn't bear the thought of hanging it out. One of the many joys of being on your own.....no one else to do these things for you!! Still and all.....I can just go to bed when i want!! or get up when I want!! My precious 80 year old parents went to the supermarket at 7.45pm last night and bought me a box of lemonade ice blocks......made me feel a whole stack better.

hugs to you all. xxxxx

PostSubject: Re: Dr Laurent Layani   Dr Laurent Layani - Page 2 EmptyMon 17 Jan 2011, 1:53 am

Hey Mel,

I'm doing VERY well at the moment. I'm up doing washing and pottering around the house. It's still a bit tender to get in and out of bed but getting in and out of chairs is fine. Remember me telling you how much I LOVED water when you visited me Thursday night...well now I cant stand it it tastes like shit...lol and im having bottled water, I just cant stand the taste. So lite cordial and Gatorade for me.
I didn't do opti any where near as good as I should have. I dont think I would of lost any weight in that 2 weeks. but I just manged to get the scales out of the cupboard and put them in the bathroom and I've lost 6 kg's. I reckon those 6 kg's are what ive lost since the op only last Friday...so 3-4 or so days.
I had it a bit rough coming out of recovery....and when they took me to the ward my back was killing me I rung the nurse bell and said "ive got to stand up i cant lie down any more" I don't think it was part of the plan to have some one straight out of recovery standing up but what the hell i was standing up with or without them! The pain from my belly hasn't been any thing compared to the back pain. When I go to sleep at night I usually wake up with my back aching really bad so I get out of bed and have a really hot shower, just the water running down my back then hop back into bed and fall asleep again. For other people reading this I hurt my back a week before surgery so the pain in my back isn't from the surgery itself. I haven't had any shoulder pain I had a little chest pain when I first woke up in recovery but nothing since. I hope the shoulder tip pain isn't lurking round the corner though.
All in all I'm doing well and cant wait for more days to pass..each day gets so much better, not long now and i'll be allowed kfc potato and gravy...mmmm
Kate how are you doing???

I just wanted to let you know our buddies are doing well. Both feeling a little ordinary but well.
It was funny I went to visit mandy4848 on Thursday night before surgery and I said upon leaving "we will chat soon", and she said "if I survive" Well she did.
Congratulations Ladies.
You have a fantastic support network here and a long journey ahead but this old chapter of your life is now closed.

Ok I think I've managed to add a link to my diary in my signature!

I found John Flynn to be excellent - I can't help being excited for you both for tomorrow. It was an adventure of sorts. I would do it again in a heartbeat. But having said that my recovery wasn't perfect, just take it as it comes. Say hi to the nurses for me!

All the best for Friday ladies and those seeing Dr Layani in the near future - you are in good hands.

Mel the catch up sounds great.

I got my own private room but only arrived there after surgery.

If you want a really detailed description of what goes on at John Flynn I've written a really long one in my diary titled 'My Journey to less dangerous curves'.

I have no idea how to link to it, but if you go to my profile you might be able to get ot it by looking atnmy topics? I am forum challenged. I will be updating it tomorrow.

Anyway all the best - I'll be thinking of you all.

Hope you wont hate me if I dont meet you before surgery at 5 in the morning. Anyway who wants to chat at 5am ? ? So I will be coming down Sunday before you are both discharged. Cant wait.

Hi Girls
Shhhh you know I am not ment to let you in on my insider info. Ha ha ha

And to answer your question Dylkia in most cases you will have a private room. If a patient is trying to cut back on costs they can ask for a shared room or if the hospital has a HUGE amount of emergency admissions that is the only reason you would share a room. My Aunty and I were done an the same day and we said we would be happy to share a room and they still put us in privatee rooms.
I bet they were sorry as we yelled across the hallway to each other after surgery.

1 HOW ARE YOU FEELING
2 A BIT SORE AND YOU
1 YEAH SORE, HAVE YOU HAD ANYTHING TO DRINK
2 YES JUST SIPPING JUICE
1 WHAT ABOUT A POO . . . . .
Stop talking now, didnt need to share with the whole of the ward my bowel history.

Not sure about the bed situation. I can only remember having my own room when I had my son there 16 years ago......lol
As for where we will be pre-op.......I guess it depends on the bed situation. When I had my band done, I was admitted to the ward to have stockings and scuds on prior to going to theatre......guess it will be much the same.

you're doing well. take care

Oh my god Heidi, I am so sorry to hear this. You probably dont want to hear this but she really is a lovely lady and greatly cares about the patients and has a great deal of medical training in this area and I assume she thinks everybody knows as much as she does.
If you ever need to call us please feel free to go through myself or Felicity.

Yahoo girls not long now, I dont work next Friday but will be coming down to met you both and sit with you until you go in. Are you both in at 10:30?
I know the fluid VLCD SUCKS but it is worth it and just think it is the last stupid bloody diet you will ever have to do.

Hi again Dylkia.
I have PHI so didn't have to worry about the hospital charges. If I was you, I'd call them directly and make sure - they will give you the answers you need.
Wow 4 sleeves on the one day......I sure hope I'm not number 4.
hugs to you

I'm booked in for the 17th but being stuffed around with APRA so hoping it all goes thru. I think one of the ladies I spoke to said dr layani was doing 4 sleeves that day.

Did you receive an invoice from the hospital? If so can we compare costs. PM if u like. Do u think I can ring the hospital directly or would I have to wait til the rooms reopen on the 4th?

I bought optifast shakes and bars today. Getting excited!!

Dylkia

all the Optifast products have the same values, so it's fine to have a bar instead of a shake...it's also fine to have any of the optifast range - this is according to the book i bought that the dietician had at layani's rooms. Have a look on the knife, fork and band website for some good recipes for veges for optifast period.

with regards to the money - i would make sure that they quoted you for sleeve and not band. that's all i can think of.

what date are you being done? i'm being done on jan 14th, so is another lady on this forum.

all the best

hi, a couple of questions for previous Dr Layani patients!! :)

Im due to be sleeved by Dr Layani in mid Jan. I am yet to see the dietician and psych yet, cant get in til week before surgery, so I am starting my Opti in new year, but I forgot to ask them, do they recommend to follow the diet exactly as it says - 3 shakes and 2 cups of veges? are you allowed to replace the shake with a bar or anything from that range. The office is closed til the 4th Jan so I cant ring and ask.

Also, I received a quote from John Flynn for my stay (not in PHI) and it is over $2000 more than I was quoted from Dr Layani, so I dont know if I have asked to borrow enough super? Has anyone else had this happen to them.
The main part is $8000 for prosethesis???

Would love if soemone could help, who has been through Dr Layani before.

Thanks
