| Hi all,
It's been a week and a half since I got my band removed (fri 4/11) and am still off work. I was ok for the first few days then I started having a sharp burning feeling where the port was whenever I stand up from sitting down (similar to a chinese burn). I went back to the specialist as I thought maybe there was an infection or something causing the pain but he just said it was healing pains.
Did anyone else feel like this? I'm due back at work in two days and am not sure I'll be able to drive.
Thanks, Lisa | |

| Hey Lisa,
I got mine out in August and was out of hospital that afternoon, even though i lived 60km away. I was in alot pain in recovery because they didnt morph me but once in my room and up and walking i was fine. Pandeine keep me pain free. I was meant to stay overnight but surgeon saw me that afternoon and as am RN decided my judgement that iwas ready go home was right. I had 24 hrs of liquid then back to normal but because i had band since 2008, plus it been 2nd slip i had alot adhesions so things still got stuck and wasnt really hungry for 5 weeks then slowly over last few weeks my appetite back to preband.

| Hi All,
I get my band out tomorrow (Friday). How long were you in hospital and do I need to be on fluids for a while afterwards? I'm starting to get a bit nervous so forearmed is forewarned I say.
Thanks alot, Lisa | |

| Bintang -
You're doing so well with maintaining your lower weight. It's good that you're maintaining control as it will help you once you're sleeved.
All the best for your op and keep us informed of your progress,

| I had my band out in April after 10 years and am getting sleeved on Friday 21st Oct (only 5 more sleeps)!!! I am also afraid of "failing" with the sleeve but am approaching this surgery much better informed and with a greater awareness of using it as a tool rather than relying on it to fix all my weight issues. I was terrified of stacking on heaps of weight in the 6 months between surgeries but have surprised myself by staying fairly stable. ALthough it's really easy to go crazy and eat whatever you want after all of the restrictions with the band I have actually enjoyed being able to eat healthy foods that I had trouble with before. I haven't had to rely on eating crap that would go down because I could actually fill up on the good stuff. I still did allow myself to eat foods that I hadn't been able to in ages (and yes, sometimes way too much) and I did put on a few kilos but then used opti on and off for a bit to bring it back down. So, as a result on Friday when I go in to get sleeved I should actually weigh less than the day I had my band removed ... pretty happy with myself there.
ANyway, good luck ladies on the band to sleeve journey. I'm sure we'll all look back on this in 12 months time and know that we've made the right decision.

Don't be put off by the sudden "fear" that you feel after the op - I also "freaked" thinking I couldn't even swallow water - was crying uncontrollably and had my young, male nurse worried! Now I'm good as gold! ha!

| Hey Bek, just sticking my nose in here :p So great to meet you and continue chatting! You will be fine. As you know, I have had a few WTF moments, but I just remind myself re what I'd be doing instead (i.e. eating crap and gaining more weight). I would like the discomfort to be over, and back to eating normal food, but patience isn't my virtue ;) Glad you're feeling well :)

| Have to agree with formyboys getting the band removed was a breeze! I hardly had any pain at all (just felt like I'd given my stomach a workout (too many sit-ups, lol), but everyone's different. I had a gastroscopy when they removed my lap-band ready for the sleeve.
Best of luck for Thursday.

| lisabell,
I am doing fine still. the only thing i can say is i was abit sick in the tummy when i got home. I have pareiot for acid in the tummy and so i took that and it helped. also i just took stemitel just to stop feeling sick and i was all good.
also a huge help for me is sharkgirl (pia) on here. i got to catch up with her in hospital when i was done last week and seeing her progress so far keeps reminding me why im gunna do it!

| Great news. I'm having a gastroscopy this Thursday ready for my band out on the 4 Nov. I was a bit worried about the procedure but you've set my mind at ese. Thanks. I just wish they could do them both together.
I too have felt like a failure for the past 4 years to the extent that it has totally changed my social life and I tend not to go out as much as I used to. Am really worried about another failure but if you don't try you don't know. Been watching Psychic Sally on Foxtel, she had the gastric bypass which doesn't allow the calories into your system so no matter what you eat you lose weight. If it wasn't the most dangerous op I might have tried that but most people on here praise the sleeve, so that's good enough for me!!

| Hi formyboys,
Great to read your post. Glad to hear everything went well on Tuesday. I am getting my band out on Thursday 13th Oct (next week). I've had my band for two years, but the last couple of months has been hell - extreme pain in my chest and back, vomiting all the time, constantly getting blockages, vomiting in my sleep and unable to get any protein down or most other good foods.....Fluid in...Fluid out....Fluid in....Fluid out. I've had enough of the band, so after speaking with my surgeon, decided to get my band removed.
I have been researching the sleeve for a few months now and have decided to go ahead with the surgery. Like you. I have to wait 3 months before my surgeon will do the sleeve. Wish I didn't have to wait so long. I too am worried about what my weight will do in the three months.
Cheers, Mother Hen. | |

| Hi,
Congrats on getting rid of your band! I'm sure the time will fly by until you get your sleeve.
I'm currently waiting on a sleeve date, find out the exact date on the 24th of October, but I have to wait 3 months (got rid of my band too), so I can get it any time after the 15th of December.
Best of luck!
Emma :)
