I didnt get the tube shape stomach!!!!

I just read through this and am shocked that this happened! I hope you ladies are ok all these years later and you eventually lost the weight you were hoping to. Goodness.

Try eating out of a small rice bowl. I found this helped me judge how much I could eat, because I could usually finish it. Just make sure you don't over fill it. :)

in england we do things a little different to other parts of the world i know, but we only drink liquids for a few days post op, then we go onto thick soup contisistancy pureed foods, then mashed, then everything else. i've been told within 3-4 months i should be able to eat everything...well not everything! thats how i got here in the first place lol

i'm 2 1/2 weeks post op, and switch between liquids, mashed and pureed foods, maybe actually more puree, but don't beat myself up, obviously if it's not mashed enough, i guess you'll know all about it, but for me it's trying not to overeat thats still an issue. i still find it quite hard to know when i'm filling up, maybe i should weigh and measure more, then i'll know in theory when i'm full.

Remeber the main thing is that you have come through the surgery alive and whilst it wasn't what you hoped for, the doctor did the right thing by avoiding possible complications with your pancreas. You are also free of your band so there is another positive. Even if your weight loss takes a bit longer, the goal isn't just weight rapid loss it's to keep it off and regardless of the shape and essentially it is smaller, that will help with the main goal...sustained weight loss.

So, keep your chin up and remember no two sleeves on this forum are exactly the same because we are all different. Look at peoples stats, everyone is loosing weight at different rates but the goal is that we sustain our weight loss with restriciton, and that is what you got, restricition.

Puffy sleeves are in fashion this summer anyway!!

So chin up and yes, maybe you may just have to put in a bit more effort but it will only make you stronger.

After chatting with the doc this is the go on my funny shaped stomach
1)The pouch happened due to the large amount of scar tuse behind the stomach and due to the closeness of the scar tissue and stomach to the pancreas it was hard to know which way to go with staple line.
2)The doc was surprised by large pouch but it is smaller than a bandits
3) Not expecting it to pool or food get stuck at narrow section and strecthing will be over whole stomach.
4) If not acheiving weightloss than revise surgey but due to closeness to pancreas may not be an option.
5) Canniot realy get volume size by xray however will have another look by xray in 12months. It is unusal for people to have xray just after surgery ( I did as I had pain swallowing) and most people may not know what the shape of their stomachs are as they have had no need to have an xray.
6) If surgey is possible 12 months down track if not losing weight, the whole staple line is not redone just the section in question but there are bigger risks.
7)No chance of getting a hiatus hernia or extra reflux
8) check how everything going in Feb 09 after swelling going down it may be all ok

I would love to get this fixed to the tube shape. But the Dr who did it will have nothing to do with me.I cried when he told me at the 7 day post op appointment to take out my drains. He said that was the shape he made so he can put a band on when it won't work anymore.Great hey. I never asked him what shape he made the gastric tube into. I thought the name said it all TUBE, NOT POUCH.. I have been to other Drs who as one put it does'nt fix others mistakes.

I have looked into doing a mal practice on him , but as I don't work a paid job , I have no loss of wages. This is why I ask everyone who is having the op to ask what shape they do? Don't take the name for granted ,
I actually had 2 specialists say that that shape won't work forever as it WILL stretch. And that is why no one does that shape they were so surprised when they found out that was what the Dr ( usely used terminology) made mine ,a pouch.

What did you do after you found out you have a pouch? Did you have another op? Mine is a pouch then a tube like a balloon animal or funny shaped lollypop or weird shape tulip with stem. I feel duped as it was not what I expected. She said it was disappointing it turned out like that? What can I do. I choose to go to back to my doc after the band for a few reasons it would not cost a thing, she knew my body and she had no leaks. I feel I have made a big mistake. I really dont want to do this again.

After heaps of research because my Dr made mine a pouch shape also. Just so his was different to other dr's doing it, and he said that he could band it when it stops working..Like isn't that why I had most of my stomach removed because I didn't want the band? Anyway The pouch is prone to stretch so do be even more careful that you don't over eat at all.
The food also tends to pool and this wil cause reflux ,and getting stuck , and extra acid .
The Dr who did my op won't even return my calls . I do live 6-7 hrs away .So its not like I can rock up on his door step. I have made so many phone calls . But hey he got his money.

You are absoutely right as I had other questions on my mind to ask in the short period of time and didnt have time to think about the full ramifcations of it.. Looking at the xrays the pouch is bigger than the tube (itr looks more like a kids balloon animal)

I have already written an email for an explanation and hopefully I'll get a good answer. I do want to fly down to see the doc in december and have a further xray to see how big it is as I dont next see the doc till the first week in Feb 09

I am a little confused, a bandits pouch is actually smaller than the sleeve. so if he has given you the same size as a bandits pouch it shouldn't be a problem. But with the talk of it not being small enough THAT is a concern as once those staples are in it might be a rather larger surgeyr to go back and fix up. Bigger risks from leaks etc. Honestly I know how you feel you just are struck dumb at the time when faced with this sort of news rather than being able to get to the bottom of it all and the answers you want right there and then. I suggeswt you put it all in writting then email him and see what he has to say. Find out the size, how long you have to wait if a review of the surgery has to be done, and just what the risks are. I would also want a full written explination of exactly what went on during the surgery. Now I doubt he is doing to like doing this one little bit but you do have the right to all this.
I am so sorry you have had to go though all this.

I just found out today at my first post op appointment that I DID NOT get the tube shape stomach but a small pouch (the size of a bands)and then a tube "but its OK I didnt get a leak" The doc was disappointed with the shape and said I did have a lot of scar tissue behind the stomach where the band was from last year. The doc said if I am eating more down the track it can be fixed. Another op! At no stage in the risks was it mentioned I would not get the tube shape stomach. I feel duped and absolutely stupid that I relied on the same doc who did my band.

I am so upset as I just flew home tonight after 2 weeks in Perth and I have spent so much on accomodation and flights and I have to do this again down the track. This is just not going to happen is it?. I have not stopped crying since I got home as I had 11/2 hrs on teh plane to think about it. My other half thinks I am overreacting as it may not happen the way I think.

I am not going to achieve my goal as this is a bigger stomach? What am I going to do should I wait a few months and see someone els or what.
