Wishing you a speedy recovery, comforteater.
I am two weeks' out and it is true what the others are saying - you just don't feel hungry. I cannot really explain it, but the thought of eating just doesn't cross my mind. I use a timer to remind me when it is time for a protein drink, water etc., otherwise, I really would forget.

Hoping your surgery went well.

I also find that I don't get hungry like I use too. I still at times find it hard to keep up my water intake but I do try hard.

Good luck and you are amongst a great network of people who will be able to support you through your journey.

Not doing optifast has not prepared you for the fluid diet, so it will be different for you than for most. You may find you get the withdrawal symptoms that the rest of us had when we were on optimist. These can include headaches, and drinking water can help with that. But right after the op, you won't be able to drink much quantity, and may not be able to have straight water - just add a little cordial or juice, or a hot honey and lemon drink. You might also think about having some shakes -watered down a lot - just to get in your vitamins, minerals and protein.
This makes it sound hard, but it isn't really, and you may not experience withdrawals at all.
You probably won't feel. Ery hungry right after the op, even if you do later.
You will still have to deal with the head stuff, but because you'll be losing weight quickly, that will help you a lot at first.
If all goes well, and it probably will, you probably will feel more discomfort than pain. I had the hernia op at the same rime, but even so, the pain wasn't too bad at all.
Good luck with the op, and I wish you a quick and easy recovery. Don't sweat the small stuff - you'll do fine...

Hun!

Don't say such negative things about yourself.

We all have demons that we have to deal with & I for one dealt with them with eating.

I haven't felt hungry since my surgery at all. It still takes some willpower to avoid just eating for the sake of eating cause it is what we have known for so long.

When you start seeing the results everything you are about to go thru is so worth it.

Stay strong & know we are only a website away.

I don't think I will feel hungry after the surgery but then again I dont think I eat beacause of hunger... so I think I will still want to, I really hope not!!
I really can't imagine not eating for that long.. not even a nibble.. gee I sound like such a food obsessed pig.....
I guess thats how I got this way!!

No problem.

I used to eat to the point of being sick.... and as soon as my eyes would open in the morning, id be thinking about food.

Today, i got to 1.30pm and thought 'hmmmm, i have that empty feeling' and remembered id eaten one banana all day.

So it does work..... take the time to work with it and it will help change the thinking about food too. I often think about food now- but its more 'what can I have to keep protein in, calories down, etc' where as before it would be 'how much can I eat before I get sick or someone thinks im a pig' and now its 'i cant be bothered cooking dinner for the family when i get like 4 bites'.

So its a bit different!

Hi there!!! Wow I remember how I felt the night before. I didnt sleep much!!! It so normal to be excited and nervous at the same time.

I wish you all the best for surgery and recovery.

Now. To answer your questions, I can only speak for myself. So please remember EVERYONE is different, will recover and progress differently... ok?

How hard is it to have nothing but fluid for two weeks after the surgery?
Well I found it wasnt a problem at all. I didnt get hungry so just went with it for the fluids. I had an outline to follow so I didnt get bored and this helped with variety and all that sort of thing. I didnt want to rush any stage and cause damage or feel sick, so I just stuck with the plan. Its a small time frame in the journey, really!

were people hungry? thinking of food, wanting food or mourning eating meals during this time? i think i will have alot of mental barriers to break through.. i am expecting it to be sooo hard.
No Ive been a lucky sleever who doesnt experience hunger. But I get a feeling when im empty and running on nothing, and then the reflux starts. So thats my signal to eat. During the first few weeks, I didnt mourn food or anything. My family got KFC and I didnt even flinch. WEIRD. I didnt want food, mourn food or anything. Now, at 11 months out, I get frustrated I CANT finish a meal (especially if its yummy) but thats exactly why I needed the sleeve in the first place!
And you are pretty much spot on- the mental side of it can be the most difficult- and it has been for me... Not because of trying to deal with things, but more about panicking Im doing things wrong, eating too much, not losing enough weight, etc etc. So it can be a challenge!!!

and also what was your experience with pain?
Well the first few days are uncomfortable, and for me it felt like Id done 1000 sit ups and was sore. But the more I moved around and then had good rest the easier it got. I felt pretty good and went back to work after 3 weeks.

Well I hope this has helped to alleviate some of your concerns but remember we are all on the journey together. You will be fine and please remember to ask your surgeon, nurses and other specialists in the hospital if youre worried, unsure or something doestn feel right.

Cant wait to see/ hear from you on the other side. You can do it!!!

Oh and dont forget to take PHOTOS!!!!!!!!!!!
