| Congrats on making a decision on have a sleeve op. You won't be sorry. It is a very exciting process and a learning curve. You will be ok. I felt excited and scared at the same time, but decided that it was normal to feel like this. I knew I wanted to change things and was following my instincts. There are always fear about the unknown, but not enough to stop from going ahead. That is how I felt anyway. Hope everything goes smoothly for you and look forward to hearing from you in the future, even on the chat. I am usually on about 8.00/8.30 in the evening. I found it really helpfull chatting. Of course everyone is different and some find it confronting. This is my first time I have been active on a forum. It is a great place. | |

| Hello and welcome to the forum. Good luck with your first appointment. Hard to judge how much weight you should expect to lose, everyone is different, some of us have an easier journey to goal, some get to 10-15 kgs from goal and can't seem to get any closer. The sleeve is a tool and if you use it with a protein based diet and exercise you will do really well. Eating the smaller amounts of food has never worried me, LOL think of the money you will save on the shopping bill! But as your tummy heals and time progresses you will beable to eat more, but of course no where near what you used to eat. I can put quite a fair bit of food away in a day now, but I still can't eat more than 250 mls in one sitting, so I eat 3 meals a day, 2 protein based snacks, plus one another snack (this I now allow myself as a treat being at goal, and its whatever I won't, ie if I am out for coffee with friends, I will have a small piece of slice/biscuit or something). Gail is right the health issues just sort of solve themselves. I have none at all now, all gone!! I am happy, healthy and fit and its the best decision I have ever made. I will be 1 year out this Tuesday. I still do a double take when I look at myself in the full length mirror and can't believe I am buying size 10 clothes. OMG I was a size 16 and 16 years of age!! Good luck with your journey. | |

| Hi Kel, Welcome and congratulations on a life changing decision. There is nothing quite like feeling healthy and happy and being able to look in the mirror and like yourself. The health issues will sort themselves out. Hugs Gail | |

| Hi Kel and welcome,
Congratulations on your decision. I had my sleeve op in Feb this year and have never, even for a nano second, regreted it. My worst weight in 2008 was 165kg, and by the time I finally made an appt with my surgeon I was down to 157kg... now, as of this morning, I am 79kg and still slowly losing. My life has changed in so many positive ways, I am fitter, healthier, and much, much happier.
Like Caz, I am more than happy with the small amounts I can eat now, and don't miss the big meals at all.
Have a good read around the site, there is a lot of great information here to help you and by using the "Search" tab at the top of the page you should be able to find answers to most of your questions. Here are some links to get you started: In the "Surgeons" section there is a thread on Dr Layani, and in the Other Health Issues section has a few threads on PCOS. The Diaries are a great read, and the Pre-op & Post-op sections should be helpful too.
Have a read of the Welcome to Newbies section too, it will give you an idea of how the site works and if you want to put a ticker in your signature, the instructions are there.
If you still have questions, ask away, there are lots of lovely people here who will do their best to help.
Cheers – Carrie

| I'm sure others will answer questions about your doctor and so forth, but I can tell you absolutely that people's insulin resistance and PCOS have been fixed by losing weight - and we have some people who started at your weight and are now less than half of that! So you can really expect great things!!!
I personally went from a highest weight of 105 kgs down to under 59.
I'm more than happy to see a small amount of food and be happy with it - it takes a little while for the head to catch up, but it really does!
Good luck with the appointment Caz | |

| Wow its great to find a place like this. I went to an information session on Tuesday with Dr Layarni at John Flynn on the Gold Coast. I was thinking about getting a lap band but have decided on the sleeve. I have my first appointment with him next week on wednesday. I have so many questions as I have so many other health illues that Im just not sure where to start. Im 28 been married for 2 months and want to have children will this operation help with my PCOS and insulin resistance? My current weight... and I have never said this to anyone besides my DH is 155kg.. Oh wow its now on a forum! How much weight should i expect to loose? How long will it take? I think a hard thing will be visually see such a small amout of food on the plate and thinking.. I have to live pn that and be satisfied? How did other people over come this? Im thinking of accessing my super to pay for the operation as it will cost us approximately $17500. Has anyone heard of Dr Layarni or used him before? Im So sorry to throw these questions out. Thanks all and will let you know how everything goes next week. Kel | |
