Hi Monique

Im also a newbie here

I can so relate to your list of what you are looking forward to.  Some of mine are not having to shop in the plus size section, being able to run around and be active with my toddlers, be able to wear a dress for the first time in YEARS, be able to go to the movies in comfort, to get out of bed without my back and feet acheing as soon as I stand up, to go swimming in public, try something adventurous like hang gliding or skydiving, to stop wearing nanna undies bahahahaha

There is so much to look forward to hey.  Hope all your appts go well and you get your surgery date soon

Mel :-)

Hi BB,

I was lucky that the fund I transferred to doesn't have the same restrictions as my other one - so because I was covered under "restricted" benefits - I will be able to claim straight away - so I've only had to borrow the $6k out of pocket!

Looking forward to being able to DO stuff with the kids - like going to airborne (trampoline centre) and being able to choose whether to jump with the kids or not - rather than automatically NOT being able because of my weight!

I am looking forward to sitting ANYWHERE on the train - not just in the single seat, or on the edge hanging over into the aisle!

I am looking forward to being able to hold my ankle to my butt in my taekwando class - I look forward to the next grading and NOT feeling self conscious because I am huge and trying to keep up with the young fit students in my class!

I am terrified to fail - and I know that right now my head is looking at everything and wanting to eat everything because I wont be able to after the op - kinda like the diet mentality - I can't eat that so therefore I want it!

Thanks for your reply!

Hi Meek hope all of those things that where bothersome in this last holiday never occur again.  I took my first flight in Feb this year post op it was so much easier then when I was to fat for the seats and I did things on my holiday I have never done before snorkeling and even just jumping into the ocean without fear of drowning.

Have you had to take out the loan for the whole op or just the gap did the insurance come to the party with the change over of levels or do you have to wait another 12mths.  If you do have to wait it will give you time to truly research your op to prepare thoroughly and to have therapy for the overeating we all have done through our lives it is this that is the biggest hurdle after.  Coming to grips with taking control of the head hunger is one of the greatest challenges long term don't under estimate the power of the head.

Good luck with this coming period of your life and happy planning for the first holiday with the family with the new you.

Hi All,

I have been looking at WLS for a while, and was always too scared to commit - or even inquire until a couple of things happened.

1. I booked a family holiday to QLD - the first in 10 years and pre-booked our seats so I was sitting between our 7yr old twins for extra seat room
2. I booked us to go to the theme parks - and then it hit me that I would not be able to enjoy the rides with the rest of the family
3. I met a person who had the sleeve done and they had lost 65kg......

I began looking for surgeons in my area - came across Selena Ward and went and saw her.

The day of my appointment I was literally driving down the freeway on the phone (hands free)with Medibank Private organising to switch covers as the same level of policy covered the procedure where my existing cover would not!

I am a mum of 3 (10, 7, 7) and step mum to 2 (16, 20) - I currently weigh around 148kg at 178cm tall - my BMI is 46. I am morbidly obese - it's taken me a long time to not only admit that to myself but to acknowledge the medical professions concerns for me.

Today I got approved for a medical loan - booked in my gastroscopy - booked my Dietician and Followup Specialist Appt - where I hope they give me a date for the op...

Now I am scared witless but looking forward to a new beginning!

Monique
