Hey peoples! How's it goin'? I'll be upfront and let you know I've never blogged before, so this whole concept is abit new to me. Some of you may have been reading my husband's blog (tiptopstheonemum), so you'll be able to follow a newly married couple through the ups and downs (male vs female) along their way to having a new lease on life :) I guess you'd like to know abit more about me... Wooohoo! Let's get down and dirty! :P I'm turning 27 this year, currently 114.8kgs and 174cm tall. I'm booked in for gastric sleeve surgery on the 24th June, with Dr Cohen @ The Mount Hospital. My biggest weight was about 130kgs; but in the last 5 years, I have been stagnant on 115kgs. I have always struggled so damn hard to lose even a kilo. My specialist for my PCOS has always told me to "go away and lose weight, and all your problems will get better, until you do that - there's not much else I can do"; coming from a skinny woman, who only refers you to a dietitian as the only solution, this is ends up being a complete and utter crock, and very demoralizing. So I decided to take action into my own hands, with the support of my pretty awesome husband (ssshhhhh, don't let him know I said that :P). I've had PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndome for those who havent heard of the abreviation before) since I was 12yrs old, and was told I would never be able to have kids; which the sleeving surgeon has been very positive about and said there is a good chance we will be able to have some little ones in the future! I've had acute asthma since I was a teenie tacker (about 3 yrs old). Over the years, I have been poked and prodded, and used as a guinea pig for a lot of asthma medications... and when I say a lot, I sadly mean a lot - many with not pretty detrimental effects in regards to my weight as alot fo them contained steriods - you're only supposed to stya on them for a few weeks... I was on them on and off for 6 years. When I was 20/21, I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic, just to top everything off. With alot of support from my parents when I was younger - and now my husband, I've asked alot of questions specialists, naturopaths and GP's and there have been the very rare few gems that have actually been able to help and are willing to fight to get answers; but most just give up after a while, and end up putting your weight and health issues down to simply eating rubbish and never wanting to leave the couch. this isn't true of most people in my situation, including myself - I rarely ate bad foods (as my mum is a health nut and was always cooking very healthy meals, and her habits rubbed off on me when I moved out of home) and loved my sports; horse riding, lacrosse, tennis, volleyball.. to even lose 15 kg from my current weight would mean i'd be back in there in a flash, I just need that little bit of a confidence boost, as my self image in general is quite sucky (even tho I rarely say it out loud). Anyhow, i've prattled on heaps - atleast this may give you an insite into myself... Today, my weight is 114.8kgs, and from this morning, I am starting the optifast full-time with my husband. Over the last few weeks that he's been on the bars and shakes, I've been trying very hard to mostly eat what he has been able to (salads and the vegie stirfry he wrote about; man that thing seriously tastes awesome) - so the transition shouldn't be too hard. I'll admit, I don't think I will have a dramatic weightloss as he has had (massive congratulations babe!); I'm just really hoping I'll lose the 5kgs before surgery.. anything more would be a bloody brilliant bonus after so long. My goal is to buy the Teknik motorcycle jacket and pants set that I've been wanting to get for 3 years now, but didnt go into my size.. but I'm gonna get there! You just watch this space, and if you see a gold motorcycle riding around, make sure you wave :oD Please feel free to post any questions or contact me - I'll reply as soon as I can (I kinda over did the internet while we were planning our wedding and have since steered clear of it for a while, but i'm getting back into the nerdy side of me again since the research into gastric sleeving.) Til next time... keep smiling! :oD Regards; Me! | |

| Hey CyclonicGeko, Ahhhh your story resonated well with me. I have had PCOD for as long as I can remember, with the same "just lose weight" blah blah blah. And I tell you what, sitting across from some slender biologically perfect woman as she explained how I should eat brought out the most aggressive part of my nature! I had four operations for my PCOD and endometriosis and was told repeatedly that I would never have kids. Fortunately I have THE most fertile husband on the planet and we now have three gorgeous - albeit chaotic - little boys. I'm booked in July for my sleeve, but at present trying to see if we can bring it forward. AAAAAnyway, just wanted to say, I know how you feel, I've been a guineapig and tried the next 'best thing' every time it came out. I recently became peri-menopausal because of the PCOD, at 31! My Doctor believes adamantly that this is the solution I need to stop years of battling hormones, hair and weight. So here's to making the last stand, like the chubby version of the X-men! I've got my claws out ready to transform and make magic, it's great you joined the team!! Keep on with your story, I love hearing it, and GO TEAM NEWLYWEDS! How cool is that!! | |
