| Ditto from me, Lou. Good luck keeping up the protein, too - if you can't fit it all in, break it into two servings and have one at morning tea and one at afternoon tea. Works for me! Chris | |

| I just got back from the 2 week follow-up with the surgeon and updated my ticker with my current "official" weight. Check it out! (down 11 pounds from the last update on July 18) I'm so excited. The doctor and dietician both commended my progress and the only adjustment I need to make is to increase my protein shake portion. I was starting to wean myself off those while starting to increase the protein-based mushy (pureed) soft foods. Fortunately I am only into day 2 of this phase and was told not to decrease the protein shakes. This means that my stomach gets more food! I don't know if I can handle that much at this point (lol)!
Starting yesterday, I've started eating soft (pureed) chicken or tuna (1/4 cup), and a well-steamed (again with the pureed) string bean or other green vegetable (again 1/4 cup). What a feast! I really mean it. I get full with this. And to add a 6 oz protein shake between the meals?
The issue is that I am currently consuming around 650 calories with about 50 grams of protein and they want to work me to get to 1000 calories with 80-100 grams of protein per day.
Until this surgery, I've never been truly satisfied with this quantity of food.

| Thank you for the warm welcome! I seem to be doing quite well 9 days post-op. The dietary program that they had/have me on is the same as that of the Roux-en-y (includes 64 oz. water throughout): * Lose between 15-30 lbs. (7-14 kgs.) between initial consult and pre-op consult (in my case it was 3 months, due to scheduling) using any method (I went "cold turkey" on all carbs. No bread, pasta, etc. Primarily white meats (no beef), fish, salad, leafy veggies, and increased activities slightly). This aids the procedure for three reasons, I am told: 1) reduce the stomach size making room in the abdomen for the procedure, 2) reduce the chances for a "fatty liver" which tends to be stiff, rather than supple making it easier to move during the procedure, 3) shows a serious commitment on the desire to lose weight. * Day -2-0: Take purgative, totally clear (non-red) liquids such as chicken or beef broth, jello (any color but red), * Day 0-3 (in-hospital): Continue totally clear liquids (I had no appetite for two days, so a teaspoon of this, a sip of that). * Day 4-15 (recuperation at home): Full liquids, non-fat, sugar-free strained items, yogurt, fruit smoothies, creamed soups, protein drink supplements, jello, pudding, etc. * Day 16-Week 6: Soft foods: chicken, tuna, cottage cheese, soft/overcooked vegetables, plus the items previously mentioned. And, of course, the regimen of vitamins that accompany the procedure. The plus side of this whole thing is, prior to the surgery, I had diabetes and hypertension, and all the prescription meds that accompany these. I am completely off the Byetta, Metformin and Lantus at this time, though I continue to monitor my blood glucose level (I been within normal levels since the surgery) and my blood pressure has already dropped. I was taking 11 different prescription meds prior to the surgery (now down to 6) and should see that continue to decline to only that required to keep the colitus in remission (Sulfasalazine), so I'm told; so I consider my surgery date to be my "re-birthday." So, I am very optimistic about what lies ahead of me. Again, thank you for the very nice welcome. EDIT: angelprana, I like the idea of the ticker, so I went to the site that you provided with yours and entered my information. What a great idea and incentive! I'm adding mine now.

| I came across this forum while searching for post-op full liquid menus. I lurked a little, then decided that the forum needs more male members (lol!), so decided to join.
My operation was Tuesday, July 15 (I am 8 days post-op) at UCLA Medical Center in Westwood (Los Angeles), California.
I started this process back in 2004 when I applied as a candidate the first time for the Roux-en-y, but was turned down due to having had ulcerative colitus in 1999. In the meantime, I tried continuing the traditional weight loss programs under the guidance of my primary care physician and endocrinologist (with mixed results). I had also seen my gastroenterologist about the risk factors of the Roux-en-y. After my company changed from a PPO-based insurance to an HMO, I decided to reapply again this past March. I was tickled when I was contacted by UCLA to have an initial appointment and found that they had introduced the Sleeve as an additional procedure since my initial application.
I started in March at 319 lbs. (145 kgs) and, when I went for my pre-op consult on July 3, I was at 298 lbs. (135 kgs.) and upon leaving the hospital, I was down to 294 lbs. (133 kgs.). I am now at 287 lbs (130 kgs.) and counting! My goal is 200 lbs. (91 kgs.) a year from now. I am optimistic with, between my support group meetings (once a month) and participating in this forum, that my goal will be relatively easy to obtain.
