| Yep it was amazing how much I complained about Optifast prior to surgery, but kept with them afterwards. Such an easy way of getting a known amount of nutrition down your neck.
However, meeting with my nutritionist has been THE most helpful thing for me in my early recovery - she is so practical, and has such a lot of experience with sleeves. Greatly reassuring. It is amazing how useful some sensible suggestions and a bit of a question/answer session can be. (Thank you Mari Eronen at Canberra Bariatric!) | |

| I had my surgery about 14 weeks ago and i still have a shake for b/fast ... they are big time saver for me. what i found most helpful at the start for me was making up only half a shake at a time as i was only having about 50mls at a time. Doing half shakes for b/fast then another half for snack then another half for lunch and so on. and my god yes lemonade water icy poles oh and flavoured water- alot of sugar i know ( about 20gms per bottle ), but it was great for keeping energy up to keep up with the kids. I didnt drink a bottle a day though, maybe a bottle over about 5 days. | |

| Shakes ~ these are great post-op for getting in fluid and protein. Add a tablespoon of protein powder and you can get 25 gms protein in per shake. You don't have to use Opti, I used Kate Morgan, lots of flavours and they taste good. I had one for breakfast every morning for the first three months until I was eating enough food to get in enough protein. | |

| I to loved Frosty Fruits when first sleeved. When I started back to work I would have soup or cruskits with tuna or shaved ham. Lots of pureed food with nice gravies or sauces -apricot chicken, finley cut up roast meat with heaps of gravy make it runny. I would also suck on pieces of fresh pineapple or watermelon as its was very tasty in the early days. Raspberries were a fav. Also make the time to eat very slowly at the start I would allow an extra 1hr in the morning. Sip, sip, sip for the first 1-8 weeks I can now skull halve a glass of cold water now no probs. Water was an interesting one I found it hard to swollow straight out of the tap. I added a little diet cordial. and had it cold. Drink first then eat, I still follow this rule and have no issues. Hope this helps. Loser4eva | |

| Hi Everyone, Thought i'd start a post to help out newly sleeved or soon to be sleeved people. The question is: What have you found to be helpful to get through the initial period? For me it was ICE BLOCKS. I struggled with not being able to eat or drink much, but ice blocks make you feel like you are doing both. At first i would have half a zooper dooper (32.5mls) every half hour. I was getting my fluids in, felt like i was "eating" and it kept the dry mouth at bay. Eventually i was able to eat a whole ice block at a time. Even now (3 months out) i still enjoy an iceblock and will cloose it over a drink because it lasts longer. Also for any initial pain associated with the surgery i found (thanks to a nurse at the hospital) warm towels heated up in the dryer helped ease the cramping pains. I did this for a few days after i came home. It really did help. So what are other peoples tips hape2cu | |
