I went back to work one week after surgery - no heavy lifting.
I flew from WA to NSW 6 weeks post-op and went snow skiing.
I did wear my stockings for the flight and car trips. (Surgeons Advice)
See how you feel and keep your fluids up.
I was fine

Hi Nessa,

There are some people that I am telling, at my surgeons advice, that I am having a hiatus hernia repair and the efter effects e.g. liquid then pureed diet are a requirement for the ehaling process and the weight loss is just a side effect.

I am having to use this strategy primarily for my work as they are not happpy with anyone taking time off for anything, but they cannot refure a hiatus hernia.

Good luck with your decisin making and remember...

"Don't say yes to others if you are saying no to yourself."

Cheers, Janet

Hi Nessa

I think it depends on how you heal. I went back to work after 2 weeks leave, only to go home early on the first day and having to the rest of the week off. I was a mess for the first 3 weeks and had extreme tummy pain in the third week. Pain disapeared almost overnight during the beginning of the 4th week. Others here were smooth sailing post op. Liquid diet for the first two weeks may be tricky to ignore if you are with family too.

I've been invited for a long weekend away in the July school holidays to Bright in Victoria.

My surgery is booked for 28 June and my family are looking at going 7-10 July.

Problem is, those family members will be unware of my reason for surgery or the fact that I am having surgery.

Too risky to go soon afterwards?
