I've just made these.. I didn't have any skim milk powder so I just added in extra protein powder (mine was vanilla too).. And I used mixed berries instead of blueberries.

I also drizzles honey and choc chips on the top...

Just about ready to come out of the oven.. Fingers crossed they taste nice!

Thanks for that recipe duzzemada!! Is it easy to break it into "bars" after it is baked? I wonder if some almonds and honey would taste nice in there too. Yum can't wait till I'm well into post op and can try it!

Protein bars Empty
PostSubject: Re: Protein bars   Protein bars EmptyThu 09 Feb 2012, 10:28 am

Hi,
They're all pretty artificial tasting. Probably the best one I've tried is the Ladybird carbstarve choc nut bars which at least have nuts recognisable as actual foodstuffs in them. You can get them at priceline.
I found a recipe for protein bars which I tried out tonight and is actually pretty good and tastes almost like real food. I haven't made it before so I don't know how well they keep.
Here it is:

1 cup rolled oats
5 scoops protein powder (recipe says to use banana flavour but I used vanilla and it was fine)
1/2 cup skim milk powder
1/4 cup extra light cream cheese
2 egg whites
1 & 1/2 bananas mashed
1 cup blueberries
1/4 cup water
3 tsp canola oil

Combine dry ingredients in a bowl. In a separate bowl mix cream cheese, egg whites, blueberries, banana, water and canola oil and beat with electric mixer. Add dry ingredients and mix until combined. Pour into a 9 inch square cake tin (lined) and bake at 180 deg c until brown on top (around 30-35 minutes)
The 'scoop' measure I used for the protein powder is about 25grams but as the mixture is pretty wet a bit more won't hurt. I also added in a few teaspoons of Splenda just because I have a sweet tooth. You could probably add in benefibre too.
It's a pretty good recipe if you're after a protein bar that taste more like real food and is also handy for using up a protein powder you don't like much which is why I made it.
