| My surgeon has suggested weight bearing exercises to help with losing weight in the first 12 months..... I have just started doing this and will hopefully start seeing results over the next few weeks...... I have stalled for about the last 6 - 8 weeks... fingers crossed the scales start moving soon! | |

| What are you doing to address the plateau? Do you track calories/content that you are taking in? Protein/carb/fat ratio? How many cals/day? Drinking plenty of water? Exercising? | |

| I have lost 50 pounds and can't seem to get any lower. I've been stuck for about six weeks. Losing 50 pounds in five months in INCREDIBLE. So I want to celebrate it. However, I would like to see the scale start moving again. | |

| Everyone, Isn't it amazing how far we have all gone, but in such a short time. In just under 4 months I have lost 27kgs, it is still hard to believe that I am loosing all this weight and not having to diet. Seeing the scales go down each week and still being able to eat all the things I love (much smaller amounts) is truly a dream come true. It's wonderful seeing that everyone else is doing so well 'WELL DONE'. Here to us!!! | |

| Well done everyone!
I am now at goal weight and I was sleeved on 3.3.10, however, I think that I look rather guant and probably dont need to lose any more for a while, if at all. My avatar pic was taken in April so I have lost some more weight since then.
My goal was the highest end of what is recommended for my height. I'm 178cm or 5'10, started at my heighest weight of 117kgs and I now weigh 77kgs. According to the stats I should be between 63 and 78kgs but that is ridiculous (I think) as I already can see some bones sticking out.
Nevertheless, I am so happy to be smaller and healthier. My ticker shows my journey.
Cheers to all!

| I didn't mean to imply that I,(or anyone else) is unwilling to comply with what their surgeon asks of them in preparation for surgery. Or post-op.I've mentioned in other posts how seriously I have taken the surgeons instructions, I just wouldnt want to face him if I ran into problems through not following instructions.
In fact sandy_lou & I are competing for the 'Miss Goody Two Shoes Award'. Which I concede that sandy_lou will win cos she's younger than me, & her tongue hits the ground every time a certain 'hot' Dr's name is mentioned!

| each surgeon does the surgery slightly differently just how much they have to move the liver is an individual surgeon thing. so as I said if your surgeon says do it you MUST do it to the letter no cheating it is important to him. If you do not want to do optifast that bad choose a surgeon who doesnt require it BUT thing seriously about just how compliant you will be after surgery if you cant follow rules for 2 weeks. doing what you are told after surgery is vitial.

| yeah he didnt think it would affect me and i carry the bulk of my weight around the lower part of my body.I was also eating a high protien/low fat diet to get a head start for a few weeks prior.
i was a bit worried,I thought if they open me up and say i had a fatty liver and couldnt do the surgery i would have killed him!!
other people have negoitated with thier docs to say have less shakes and eat a high protien dinner and some doctors dont require the opti phase as apple mentioned.Im not sure why doctors have different requirements

| because he looked at her and thought she wouldnt be a problem. how much you weigh your age how you carry your weight and how your surgeon actually does the surgery all plays a part in how important optifast is. if you are told to do it yiou need to do it. if it is that big a deal to you not doing it shop around and find a surgeon who doesnt do it.

One really has to question the whole Optifast thing if this can happen. I gladly did the required 2 week opti regime (to the letter, I might add) as I had read so many times "it's to shrink the liver, making it easier to perform a safe surgery". Why would they choose to waive it for someone?

| RE the plateaus. I experienced a plateau around week 3 - lasted 3 weeks. Then I woke up and stopped eating pasta and any other carbs religiously for a week - wow, things moved really well since then and I have been losing at least 1kg per week now without fail. I don't have anything sugary on purpose (occasionally something has a little in it). I know pasta is soft and slippery and feels good in your stomach, but it's no good for losing weight. Now I mostly eat proteins except for breakfast, when I have porridge with lite milk. I don't drink whole milk or have whole milk yoghurt. I eat full fat cheese but small amounts. For the rest of my diet, it's mince meat, seafood, etc. My little buddy Lisa put me onto Hungry Jacks or MacDonalds burgers - just eat the beef pattie and/or egg and toss out the bread. Good for lunch at work for me.
I don't eat fruit because it's high sugar, but if I wanted to eat fruit, I would eat low gi, which would be any type of berry - strawberries, raspberries etc, but not a lot. If I feel really desperate for something sweet I have the Opti lemon creme dessert. My favourite treat is to get 3 fresh Tasmanian scallops from the fish shop and cook them with a tiny bit of butter and enjoy. Soft and easy on the stomach. If you want to sweeten your coffee or anything else, try stevia powder from the health food store, don't buy supermarket stevia because they add too many chemicals to it.
I am almost 6 weeks out now and have lost 18kg include the Opti fast. I'm just beginning to see the difference, it's exciting.

| Here goes: I'm 20 weeks out (sleeved on 25th January) and have lost 26 kilos. 5 kilos away from goal weight and have plateaued for the last 3 weeks so those last few kilos are going to be tough. But the bulk of it is gone, never to return!!! Mel | |
