I'm a bit of a book nut. I have an entire bookcase devoted to books I have bought and haven't read yet! I seem to buy two more for every one book I read!
With the knitting, even if it is only scarves, think of the Christmas presents you can make for family, while helping yourself not eat! :)

| Dear Kali & Jezzybel, The reading is a bit of a problem also for me. I read an insane amount- maybe we can open up a book topic in general chat - I had been thinking about asking Hayley if that would be OK. But TV is even worse than reading because every second commercial is food. I think a lolly or a salad munch might work. I forgot about needlepoint. That would work. i still like the idea of kinitting although a scarf would be the most I would bother with. Boy I have my work cut out for me this week getting all my materials ready after the surgery. But hang onto the book idea all- I read everything from trash to classics and love to share book talk with any and all. Lets see what Hayley thinks. | |

| I initially felt that need while I was reading - I read heaps and I used to always be munching away while reading. I managed it okay with Double D lollies and some other diabetic ones (can't remember the name, they're new I think), just to keep my mouth occupied really. Sugar free gum worked as well, but I prefer being able to crunch something down. A word of warning though - too many of those lollies have a laxative effect (which I learned the hard way... but when you're constipated post-op, it's not always a bad thing). | |

| asnewme - I've been known to do cross stitch or read while watching TV. It gives me something to do or hold in my hands. :) | |

| hehee, I find that I dont have the want to munch like I used to. Sitting down to T.V used to mean eating the whole time, then getting more at ad breaks. How embarrasing now though. But, I dont feel anything like that anymore. If I get up, its to go to the you-know-what, or to boil the kettle for a cuppa. Though, if we are going to watch some movies, I will have some chips or something like that, but my tastes have changed quite a bit, and it only takes a few chips and then I feel gross. Its just not the same as it used to be. All I can say is Thank God... whoever she/he is.

How do you keep from munching during TV time? Hmmm.... now I'm feeling really guilty. I have been sitting here reading my messages and eating chicken chips. So sorry, I'm not qualified to answer this question. steph

| I was worried about this too, asnewme. All I can say is that the urge to eat all the time just isn't as strong now as it used to be. Oh, sometimes I crave things, or I get up and down, looking into the cupboard or the fridge. But then I realise that I eat anything much, I'll feel ill, so I make myself a cuppa and - believe it or not - that fills me up and then the need to eat seems to go away by itself. Sometimes, like at the moment with my period, I get sugar cravings. Yesterday I had some chocolate, and a few rice crackers in between meals. But that's it, really - so far, that's the extent that I can cheat without suffering. Hope this helps. Chris | |

| i crave protein most often and have done ever since my appetite returned after surgery - the dietician said that's a great thing to crave and it makes sense - it's what my body needs. i do sometimes get a sugar craving which is often when i'm low in energy or feeling like my body's slow to digest - but i'm trying to avoid sugar as 1) it spikes my blood sugar and my energy goes haywire and 2) it seems to run right through me so it almost makes me dump the food i've been eating which is not good as i'm trying to absorb nutrients from my food.
ps i've never been a fan of tim tams and i'm an aussie through and through.

| I am not talking so much about being hungry or full- more like I am used to multitasking all the time. Of course one of my tasks is to keep eating, and eating, and eating. I sort of feel like I need to find something that I can do with my hands - no snippy remarks here everyone- other than use them to carry food into my mouth while I am watching TV. I do have my bike in front of the TV so that will take up some of the time, but I need something for the rest of the time- I usually watch about 1- 1/2 hours per evening- never during the day- during the day I am either on job site, driving, or on computer or phone.
Course - I might learn how to use an ironing board- my daughter didn't even know we had an iron- I am a master at figuring out how to get our clothes out of the dryer at the perfect time to eliminate the need to iron.

| me I make myself full with say a tub of yoghurt same principle as shopping full. if you are actually full you have no interest in food. huge difference between being full and not hungry. That way when I want to eat I reach for things that make me full rather than chips that do not. oh okay okay i am not perfect I have been known to do it yea yea yesterday *LOL*

| Google can come to the rescue on this one, I just chucked "cruskits" into the search engine and the first site it came up with was:- http://www.arnotts.com.au/varieties/CruskitsOriginal.aspx There you can see a piccy of Cruskits.
Next I tried "Tim Tams"...hay Presto, http://www.arnotts.com.au/products/TimTam.aspx shows a piccy of Tim Tams. So if our colonial friends wander off to those sites they can see what we're now missing out on!!

| Oh Lordy- here we go again- turns out Tim Tams are made by.........Arnotts- who also make the infamous Cruskits Neither of which I can find here---- Oh well - I will just have to make do with the 10 zillion other foods served up here. Just think of all the calories I am saving without the tim tams. | |

| I have watched it done. I drink tea so have never tried it as it would taste gross. But it works. Suck like crazy then shove in hehehehe It is a very australian thing. I had my first marshmallow in hot chocolate last weekend. People think it is strange I had never tried that before. It was to sweet for my taste but I did enjoy the hot chocolate on the cold day :)

The aim is, once the liquid is in your mouth through the biscuit, to shove the biscuit in your mouth as fast as possible before it disintergrates. :)
