PostSubject: Re: Pages Loading   Pages Loading EmptySat 19 Sep 2009, 3:44 pm

Sorry for taking so long to respond, but I suspect, being a professional computer geek (I work in IT myself), I believe I know what's going on... It's actually a combination of issues and it's not unique to this web site.

Personally I use Firefox for both home and work use as it contains a number of safety items to prevent hostile web sites from exploiting Windows weaknesses. I do use an add-on called "IE Tabs" within Firefox for those web sites that are IE-centric and don't behave properly with non-IE web browsers. I've seen no issue with loading pages for replies, but Firefox may not be the sole reason, read on for my recommendations.

First, if you're using Windows XP with IE, you should be ok so long as you clean the cache and temporary files on your system from time to time. As was said, you clear the cache by clicking on "Tools" at the top of the frame, then "Internet Options", then "Delete" and "Delete All" including offline content. This has the side-effect of also clearing any saved passwords, so uncheck that if you want to preserve those.

Then try this, in addition. Open the "My Computer" icon and when you see the list of drives, right-click on the C: drive and then click on "properties". You'll see a "Disk Cleanup" button. Click on that to clean up the C: hard drive. Don't worry, it's perfectly safe to do this.

If you want to get aggressive in your system maintance, there are two freeware utilities that I will swear by. I use these weekly to keep my system clean and running fast.

The first is called "ccleaner" (used to be called "crap cleaner"). You can get it from here. When installing, I typically uncheck the "Yahoo Tool bar" and "Desktop Icon" boxes. You can get to the program by right-clicking on the Recycle bin and opening ccleaner. It's very intuitive and easy to use. I clean both the applications and the registry. You'd be amazed at how much faster your system will run after performing this cleanup operation.

The second program is called "ad-aware" and you can get it from here. Again, very intuitive to use. It cleans up any malware or tracking cookies on your system and basically replaces Windows Defender. I've disabled defender as it was making my system slow down.

Give these a try, then reboot your system. I think you will be pleasantly surprised as how "peppy" your system will become after performing these operations.

If you really want to speed up your system, there is a program that I've purchased that seems to work with XP and Vista to fine tune the system even more. I use it occasionally, but the two freeware programs that I've mentioned do the majority of the heavy lifting.

Hope this helps. Let me know if this does the trick.

Hi Hayley,

I think it was a one off, but at least I now know what people are talking about. And yes, I use Firefox.

Works OK on a Mac using Safari. Perhaps try downloading the Windows version of Safari and trying that?

Hiya Gals,
I have done a resynchronization so we will see if that helps at all.
Let me know if it keeps happening.

Oh and is it happening with Firefox and Internet explorer? Or any other browsers?
Geeez... the big wide world of internet browsers!

It's been happening to me too Kylie.

It does get a bit annoying though I haven't had the double up thing or words disappearing...just my typing getting ahead of the actual screen.

Hugs,

Nope you're wrong, he has asked me several times for us all to load up firefox and use that instead of IE. You have only seen a snapshot of our conversations, and be assured that he is not the only one that has said we should be using firefox. One even said we are living in the dark ages using IE still!
Anyone can understand your instructions and the way you have given the problem in detail, no geeks needed to understand that, either that, or I am a geek too! LOL.
Anyways, I am going to load up firefox and test the thing out. But shhhhhh dont tell him that ok!

Ahhh GeekSpeak. Something I'm very familiar with being a geek myself.

OK, lets get the Firefox thing out the way first. What I think he is trying to say isn't that you need Firefox to use the site, but that it is a more secure browser (which it is). This means that your system is more likely to be stable and not be affected by things like spyware and flash animations.

What your geek needs is some real time examples. Something like (and this hasn't happened to me its just an example).

Hiya,

Its the same thing here as with the other problem we seem to be having with posting then being sent to a different thread. Once again, I will keep everyone up to date with my progress.

Just to give another update on an answer I recieved just a few minutes ago, here is a message that a guy called Kirk sent me...

Quote :
Hayley with all due respect?
i Don't know exactly what kind of answer it is your looking for?Your computer and speed can have a number of different things and reasons why it might be slower at times.
it can depend on your service, your system, browser.. i mean it's endless. then you might have some king of addware or spyware that can be slowing it down too.

the only thing i could really suggest is make sure you dont have anything in there slowing it down. find a good browsers that works for you the best and stick with that.
as far as you implying this is a forumotion problem. i doubt that very much. it's probably something on your end. i even have some problems on different sites not everthing is always fast. it's just the computer. this will fluxuate at times.

so like i said i dont know what kind of answer your expecting if i had one that would work for you i would be sure to tell ya and help.but this can be anything from your connections,to your service to your system etc...

try using a different browser and see if that helps.

This is ever so frustrating and I have told them once again that its not an answer for us to ALL switch to firefox simply because they cannot find a solution to the problem... I dont get why they cant understand that! Does anyone have firefox? If you do can you tell me if you are suffering with any pages loading? I am sure Peter said something about firefox, is that right Peter??
