Band removed 4 Oct 2010 sleeve op set for 24 Jan 2012!

Hi Donna ... congratulations on your decision to go from band to sleeve. I too had a band for 10 years (it broke after 6 weeks and the port had to be replaced). Over the years I lost just under 30kg (with 2 kids in between & the help of reductil). I had my band removed in APril after putting on nearly 20kg and was sleeved about 6 weeks ago. I'm finding it so much easier - no food getting stuck, no vomiting, no foreign body in my abdomen etc. I'm losing quite slowly but at least I'm losing (and when I think back to it, although I lost a lot of weight in the first couple of weeks with the band it was very slow after that).

Glad to hear that things are working out for you and you have a surgery date. I haven't had a band but from what I've read on here I think you will find the sleeve much easier to live with. Good Luck for January.

this is my first post!

Had my band for over 10 years NEVER had an infill, I just cringed at the thought of having food stuck and the pain that would follow. While I had an immediate weight loss of 17 kilos I struggled and my weight flucuated dramatically.


2 yrs ago my aged & ill mother moved in with me. Things have been difficult (to say the least) and I stacked on over 30 kilos in this time. Things had to change, I needed to claw back control over my life.

Back in July 2011 I found the wonderful team at Life Weight Loss Centre Liverpool and weighed in at 157kgs.

Dr Durmush sent me for several test and low and behold the bloody band was broken! Very low calorie diet for 5 weeks then on 4/10/11 (loss of 14.6 kgs) I under went band removal. Sadly Dr D was unable to provide me the sleeve at the same time due to the extensive scarring he had to repair.

This week I got the totally excellent news that I have lost 20kgs now weighing 137kgs and will have my sleeve surgery on Tuesday 24/1/12 at Hurstville. I will go back on the vlc diet on 1/1/12 and aim to be 130kgs for surgery.
