| Very interesting information, thank you. The battery operated razor was quite amazing. Quick, no nicks and very close shave. - peaceandequality wrote:

Apologies for gate-crashing but just wanted to offer some guidance re the shaving of your stomachs pre-op.
I work in theatre and at times, do the pre-admission stage. It is common practice for the admitting nurse or the surgeon (whilst under anaesthetic) to do the shave. The reason being is if you shave or wax before hand, you increase the risk of breaking the skin barrier by cuts or nicks, thus increasing the risk of infection. Believe me, you do not want to be turned away because you have a portal of entry for infection. So, best advice, leave the shaving to us! It's painless - we use a battery operated razor.
Depending on how hairy your chest is, you may need shaving there also to allow the heart monitor electrodes to be positioned. Hair gets in the way of an accurate reading and makes the electrodes extremely difficult to stick.

| A nurse at The San shaved me pre-op. She started about the sternum and went as far as my navel. Not sure what short of shaver it was but it was very quick and painless. The regrowth is coming back but in the scheme of things it is a non event when compared to the positive results. | |

| Hey guys, sorry I know I'm invading guy territory, but if you want no hair there for surgery and are worried about itchy regrowth, I would suggest waxing. Just buy the strips from the supermarkegt, they work great. the re-growth is softer and takes longer to come back. Sorry again...... | |

| Oh my, never thought of that. I had an ecg recently where they shaved my chest. The itching of regrowth was really yuck. | |

| Don't bother unless you're told to do it..
I asked and they just said they'd do it once I was under.
