| Thank you all so much for your replies. I guess the bottom line is that it is my decision, and my business, but I would have to rely on family for help as I have a baby and a toddler. My sister had the band inserted and later removed again so I don't think I can fudge any of the details, besides I am a terrible liar! I've considered claiming to go on holidays, but I think my husband will need support with the kiddies. Gosh it is so hard. Lik a few of you, I was very candid with my band journey. I lost 40kg which is great and everyone was so supportive, but I haven't told many about having it removed as I feel so ashamed! I bet they are wondering why I can eat so much now and how I have managed to gain almost 10kg in 2.5 months!! Thanks again all. You've given me a lot to think about. Jess - good luck with the removal. You will be very happy that it is gone I'm sure!' | |

| Hiya
Im having my band removed next year to have the sleeve .
Im pretty sure my family thinks im a failure, my boyfriend used to think that but hes so supportive now.
Ive decided not to tell anyone but bf and parents - possibly siblings. Im sick of being judged so I give up its best no one knows. :(
I feel like I told too many people when I had the band, so when I stopped losing and startd gaining they ALL looked at my like I failed a medical procedure that should be saving my life.

| Hi everyone,
Ive never had a band, i went straight to the sleeve because for me i didnt want the constant adjustments, the vomiting, and the food getting stuck. I have 7 friends that have had the band and i guess for me and i dont mean to offend anyone but i just never saw them eat...and when we went out for tea etc they were always in the bathroom. Some are now considering the sleeve because they wouldnt be able to cheat with it?>
I have chosen to tell my closest family and friends and i really dont care what they say, ive had a close friend say
"why would you choose to have a perfectly good working organ removed?" her tone was very upsetting and made me angry, she sees this procedure as a cheats way....ive been at my current weight and have lost 27kgs but that took dedication and gym 5 days a week and a great eating regime but that was 13 years ago, ive had 5 kids and my body does not bounce back like it did then and quite frankly i dont have the time or the money to spend to do that all over again and i failed in the long run because i couldnt keep up with that lifestyle.
But i totally understand why some have chosen not to say anything because of prior procedures and yes youre right its noones business but your own. People have to understand that this is your decision and one that you are happy with, you have researched and have found a great doctor to support you and to preform this procedure, its a pity that your family or friends cant do the same>? This site is fantastic you get honest and helpful advice, i hope you ladies get the results you are looking for and if you decided to do the sleeve, believe me it is amazing how it changes everything, I was sleeved in the august sleevers so please have a look, i hope i have helped in some way good luck:)

| Hi everyone, I had my band removed on 22nd August. Looking at a date hopefully in November for my sleeve surgery. Just told everyone that I had a hernia done and when it comes to having the sleeve I will use the same excuse. I have thought about saying that they adjusted my band whilst in there, and that will explain my new found weightloss. I have soooooooo had my fingers burned by telling co workers about having a band, and of course they have mentioned it to other people etc etc. Talk about egg on face, I am so embarrased by the fact that everyone knows I failed with the band. I have learnt a lesson. This time I am going to stay quiet and they can just wonder....
It's MY business (and hubby) and nobody elses. I don't want to be judged anymore. :)

| I was fortunate not to have to pay for my sleeve so didn't have to worry about my family or friends bothering about me "wasting money". I told them, I was just having the band procedure upgraded - made out like it was a natural progression from the original surgery " "just some modifications" "newer version of the band" "to kick start the weight loss again". Told my partner everything, he was concerned initially, you know... it's irreversible if I changed my mind. He was reassured after meeting with my surgeon though and we met a lady in the waiting room at the surgeon's rooms she was terrific answering all his q's. | |

| How did your family and friends react when they found out you were having a second WLS? Were they supportive? Apprehensive? Angry or worried? How did you tell them And how did you cope? I am so nervous to bring it up with anybody. Husbandface is Pretty supportive but I'm worried what family will say or think. Another 5k etc etc. :(
