Hi hopeful1

Don't worry about the size. You would be amazed at how much food fits in one of those little containers. When you put that into a bowl or on a plate, it is more than you would think. I always take a container of pasta the day after we have it at home, and once I put it in a bowl, it looks like a normal portion.

The key is to make sure you eat slowly and eat small portions - and let's face it, eating smaller portions is why you're having surgery.

The great thing is that I go and buy a small chinese meal at a food court and it lasts me 2-3 lunches - saves lots of money!!! Again, those containers hold so much food it is unbelievable!

Before long you will be looking at what other people eat and wondering why. I guarantee that.

Hugs

I agree the portion size looked teeny weeney. As a person yet to be sleeved (big day on wed 13/7) it was a bit disheartening. Hopefully they add veges or salad to those meals they pulled out of their freezer. Other than that it was positive all the way.

Kilrust I'm so glad your losing weight again just over two years out. A lot of people looking at sleeves probably worry if they don't lose it all in the 6/9 months they will forever be stuck at a certain weight. It's good to see there can be a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

I can as well Tracey but I guess everyone is different and I would also hazard a guess that surgeons would leave different size pouches.

But in saying that it also depends on what you eat as salad stuff is water based and you can eat more then say eating fruit or protien or bread :)

But I am happy with what I have lost and after over a year with no weight loss it is on its way down again :)

Thanks for sharing your story Keibi!!! It's so good to hear (and see) a positive story in you and your husband, and the other lady on the report. Pity they edited your interview it would have been good to hear all of it (But at least they didn't turn your words around, just missed a few). I am still waiting to see surgeon about op so it was comforting for me to see your stories

My mum text and said "quick channel 7" lol!
I thought it was a great story, definately positive. But I also worried about the food portion part. I can definately eat more than that 9 months out. Maybe twice that size. Very interesting.

I also have a story in the media in the works, when it all goes ahead I will let everyone know. I am very excited.

Hi Oki Doki Joy,

I hope that in some way it inspires people to have the courage to go through with the surgery if they need it.
It has totally changed my life - and of course my husband's as well.
It was great doing it together (his surgery was 2 months after mine).

I didn't use a forum prior to my surgery - it was just that my husband was googling around and saw that there were some concerned people about the segment so I thought I would try to put their minds at ease.
Any surgery is scary enough - it is much nicer to have the reassurance of all the correct information.

Good luck to everyone out there going through this!

:)

I have edited it so there is just the Sleeve portion and the file is 57.6 mb (compressed for iPad). Has anyone got any ideas about how it could be posted? Or have a way to do that.

I really don't want to put it in my Mobile Me gallery.

Happy to send to someone if this works - on disk if it is too big for an email. Or iChat if anyone has that.

Hi everyone,

I watched this also and it actually made me more excited that I had made the right decision and that it may even work for me! So thanks to those people who gave a realistic view on losing weight, unlike those stories on how to lose 10kgs in 10 days stuff!

Have a great day.

Love Cath x

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to say that I was one of the people on the Today Tonight segment.
Please don't freak out too much about the portion size of the meal I showed.
It is about average of what we can eat 12 months out.
My husband can eat one and a half to two of those containers now.
I'm still on only one - but it is equivalent to about 3/4 of a cup of food.
Sorry - no vegies or salad added - that would never fit.
We make sure we put as many vegies in our little meals along with skim milk powder for added protein.
I think it's important to remember that each each person will be different depending on their current size, height and how much stomach has been left behind (percentage wise).
I wish they had shown the full conversation about the food portions as I did explain a lot of that.
Also, I said at the end that it is a tool to succeed but a lot of hard work... I then finished the sentence with "...but I am SO glad I did it and would do it again in a heartbeat."
Hope this helps. Happy to answer questions if people are worried.

I Thought it was very well represented, not too sensationalised, and reasonably balanced ... it was refreshing to hear a news show (even if it was a Current Affair type) reporting something with a positive spin.
cheers

I was holding my breath to see if it was going to be backlash about the sleeve...coming from someone who is still waiting to see the surgeon, I am aware of negatives and bad outcomes, but I am glad they did a positive take on it!!!

PM I suppose everyone is different in the long run in relation to food intake? They also may have veges and salad with that??? Just a thought.
