| I ended up ringing the surgeon again and ended up re-hydrating on a drip for a couple of days in hospital, but I am feeling much better now. Thanks for all your help this site has been a fabulous support. I think my problem was that I didnt really have my head around the 100ml intake amount I could have, but now I measure 100ml every hour, and am just sipping, so no more vomiting for me! Yay!!! | |

| Really? Wow, that's surprising. Well, make sure you're getting lots of nutrition then - watering down the Opti is a good idea, and a liquid multivitamin will be a must. If you're still worried in the next several days/weeks before you see him, don't be afraid to call again - and even ask for an urgent appointment. Keep us 'posted'! | |

| I had a similar problem. I am now 3 years post op and all is Ok if I eat less than 200ml, so tehre is hope. My advice to you is to do as I did. In the first few weeks stick to wholesome soups like homemade chicken broth. If you can also try an eggflip. You need to get the protein into you. Protein soups are sometimes more palatable and easier to hold down than shakes. I had 8 operations in 13 months and went to hell and back but I survived so hang in there! Gwenda | |

| you can get liquid multivitamins which you probably need for a boost can you drink an opti shake at the moment? even water it down if you have to ,just to get some nutrients in. the surgeon should be able to give you over the phone advice and you should be able to get a script of your local GP for reflux if thats what the doc thinks you need.I wouldnt feel bad for ringing him, youve payed for the surgery and decerve after care and support and tell him you cannot afford another trip to him.Im sure hell understand and do his best to help you. If your body is not getting any nourishment you will end up getting sick. shelly | |

| Hi Sue P I agree with the others - call your doc and get some advice. In the meantime, try things like chicken and beef broth - you might find warmer fluids easier than the cold ones. I understand about having problems taking meds, but were you prescribed anti-reflux meds? If so, ask your doc if you can crush them to take them - some pills you're allowed to do this with, and some you aren't, apparently. I had a lot of problems in the beginning, too - that doesn't mean that you will always have them. But you do need to talk to your specialist. | |

| Hi suep, Sorry to hear about your troubles. You have lost 16.5kg in under 3 weeks. That is an extremely rapid loss. Please give your surgeon and dietitian a call. Tell them what you have told us. Even if you cannot afford a trip to see them, they need to advise you how to proceed until your next appointment. If there is any suspicion of dehydration, malnutrition or serious complication in the meantime, please go to the ED or at the very least your GP. Ask for advice on how to keep up with your vitamins and medications (anti-reflux meds? Buscopan??) I hope you make a rapid improvement, and that everything settles down. MiddleWoman | |

| Thanks for the advice. Im a bit worried about calling the surgeon as I really cant afford another trip to Adelaide, and dont really think they will do much if I go. I have started taking Supradyn today as a multi vitamin, just letting it dissolve and de fizz before taking it, its a slow process as my stomach only holds 100ml. I cant swallow tablets or capsules they just come back up. I hope I dont live to regret having this operation done. My husband didnt want want me to get it and I havent stopped hearing about it since, I did this for me, the first selfish thing I have ever done, I hope its worth it in the end. | I was sleeved on 3rd June 2011, my doctor also had to cut away adhesions from when I had my lapband removed two years previously. I was surprised, the pain was not as bad as I had expected. I was discharged on the 8th June, still vomiting on and off, but not too bad. It was a 7 hour drive home for me and I felt every bump. I had a painful trip home. Once I got home I couldnt keep anything down, and after a couple of days of this I ended up dehydrated and admitted to our local hospital. Two days later I was flown out by the Flying Doctor and returned to Adelaide, where 2 days later I had another surgery to remove some of the stitches from the lap band fixup. I was discharged again on the 17th and my husband drove me home again. My problem is that its now the 22nd June and all I can keep down are ice blocks or cordial, anything thicker just comes back up. Is this normal? I dont want to go back to Adelaide again. I am due to see the surgeon in 3 weeks. When I had the op done I was 97.5kgs and now I am 81kgs. I am looking and feeling really gaunt has anyone else had this sort of problem. Is there anything foodwise that is clear and healthy? I hope someone can help me. Sue. | |
