| At SJOGH in WA, HBF patients are fully covered for hospital bed, theatre fees, radiography. If you have an excess, that is all you pay. Get the Medicare Item number from the Surgeon and ring your fund. Sometimes you will need to pay for medicines from the pharmacy, and I don't know if these are covered or not. HBF is good if you are going to a participating hospital, these should be listed in your member info booklet, or check on the website. Definately give them a ring, you are paying for the service and they deal with these questions all the time. Good Luck | |

| Ok, so I have spoken to HBF and even though I have top cover and it will be in a SJOG hospital I still have a big gap to pay for my surgeon, so just to let other people know that are enqiring about HBF and I guess any surgeon... that it does depend on your surgeon as to what they will cover.
My Dr isn't a "no Gap" dr. He charges $4800 and I dont get much back at all from that fee...I'll be out of pocket $3900 and believe itor not medicare pays more than HBF for him.... but being done in a participating hospital all my hospital stuff will be covered except for excess, extra night stay in hospital if need be and pharmacueticals.
If you have a No Gap Dr, you'll be mostly covered for everything. | |
