So how do you guys deal with clothing and the excess skin sag. Do you recommend lycra, or other special clothing to keep it in place and do you still look good?

PostSubject: Re: EXCESS SKIN   EXCESS SKIN EmptyMon 30 Mar 2015, 1:33 pm

How much your skin will sag depends on how overweight you are and how much elastin is in your skin. Elastin is determined mostly by genetics and age. No matter what potions, lotions, wraps etc you put on the outside it will not effect the elasticity of your skin, save your money. Exercising and muscle building will give your skin a better frame work to lie over but will not "fix" saggy skin  but will bulk it out and support it better.

I have found that my skin has improved slightly with more time, I am now almost 2 years out and in the last 6 months I think my turkey neck has improved slightly. I am 53 years old but thankfully I must still have good amounts of elastin  in my skin because I don't think my skin is worse than any other person of my age who hasn't been overweight.

I'm sure that age is a factor in how much your skin sags (or not) after surgery.  I'm 55 and have been severely obese for about 25 years.  I'm assuming I'll have more sagging skin than a 30-year-old.  Can anyone in my age group comment?
I am only 17 days post sleeve but I have been looking at having body wraps to help in the future with my sagging skin.  I am only just starting to investigate this so I am sorry but I can't give you any more information.

EXCESS SKIN Empty
PostSubject: Re: EXCESS SKIN   EXCESS SKIN EmptySun 10 Jul 2011, 1:02 pm

Hey guys,

I was sleeved back in November 2010 and have lost about 45kg since. I have a stocky frame to begin with, so much so that I suspect I won't have too many issues with excess skin. But I have noticed in the few places where I carried much of my weight. Areas like inside my thighs, and under my biceps and to a lesser degree around my waist, I have started to develop saggy bits hehe. Mind you now, I have given myself two years to reach my goal weight of 80kg. And I reckon that the time you take to loose the weight may have a significant effect on how well your body readjusts. I read somewhere it may take up to 2 years for your skin to shrink as far as it can. After that it won't reduce any further and you may wish to consider surgery. But time is a factor.

Despite this possible issue, I have no regrets about undergoing the procedur.

Cheers

EXCESS SKIN Empty
PostSubject: I'm down 47kg and skin is starting to tighten up slowly :-)   EXCESS SKIN EmptyFri 06 May 2011, 10:52 am

Hello everyone

First of all a big congratulations to
sutbr01 with losing 75KG!!!!!!!

I had my operation September 2010 and it's now been just over 7 months and I am
down 47kg and life is incredible!

Things are slowly shrinking back and my stomach is so much smaller now and I am
very happy with how things are going. It looks like I will need a tummy
tuck later on down the line, but will wait and see how things progress.

I am down the gym about three to four times a week and do
lots of 'core work' and running/cycling and things are really improving.
I used to wear skin tight 44’’ waist trousers which used to literally cut off
my breathing, but now I have a pair of size 32’’ jeans on at the moment and
still need to pinch myself sometimes!

Another embarrassing problem that is also slowly shrinking is 'man boobs' and
they used to be massive (really embarrassing when your's are bigger than your
partners!), but even these are now shrinking, so there is hope for us all.

PostSubject: Re: EXCESS SKIN   EXCESS SKIN EmptyTue 03 May 2011, 10:28 am

Hi Guys, good to see a mens section, the loss skin issue is relative to your percentage of weight loss. At 75 kgs lost parts of me resemble a melted candle. You can't abuse your body for such a long time without consequences.

Considering a tummy tuck to help remove some excess skin and to reshape parts of me. I am not doing it for cosmetic reasons but doing it more for comfort.

Nearly 2 years down the track, I have no regrets, I would never swap some saggy skin for being morbidly obese.

I didn't do this to be thin, I did it to be healthy..

Hey mate,

I was sleeved in Nov last year and have lost 20kg's thus far. I too am concerned about excess skin but I am ready to deal with that when I get to that stage (probably another 25kg's away. I am open to tummy tuck if needed as a few years ago i had lost a heap of weight and still had this bit flabby skin which made me feel like i was still fat..... it really played with my mind!

Well, horses for courses.

I bought a new lawn mower yesterday and gave it a 2 hour workout today and dropped a KG just doing that. Probably more as I was drinking continuously.

I did do a huge area. More tomorrow maybe as I lost plenty of skin off my heels.

Really Bones? I think the sleeve is a easier and better way to loose weight than those rating grabbing television shows. They just want to put you through tourture to get a good show. I think they are dangerous in some of the things they do.

Hey Matt

That is good to hear about the skin being a little loose but nothing too bad. Great work with the weight lose so far, and good luck with the rest.

And yes James we will be the biggest losers :) even though I had did not have fun with that lot who do the biggest loser and Channel 10, as my wife and I was part of a biggest loser second chance team two years ago. Bit of a dick over there.

Hi there,

I have now lost plenty of weight and my skin is fine. It is a little looser that before but not to the point that I would need to get it fixed.

I am pretty active now and I think that helps as well.

Hey James

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like you are doing great with the weight loss. Hearing success stories such as yours always gives me more motivation and realisation that I am doing the right thing getting this OP.

Keep up the good work and hopefully we'll be smashing those kilos away togehter soon and without the excess skin.

Hello men of the GSS forum,

I am getting excited and nervous about my up coming OP on the 25/01, I have seen the great outcome my wife has had since her op on the 28/09/10 with her great weight lose am look forward to mine.

The only thing that I have a nagging concern about is "Excess skin". I am worried that having had the body of an elephant, that once I lose all this weight I will have the skin of an elephant.... I have lost and gained weight so many times in the last 20 years, I reckon I have lost around 150 kgs in this time and also gained that back easily.

So just wondering how all you guys have gone after your op's, hope to hear soon.
