Oh WOW

This is not a thread i was expecting to see here and so happy to see it.

I have had this annoying skin condition for about 20 years now.. not bad considering im only 28.

It makes me hate summer and everything related to it :( Fingers crossed that a large weight loss will help with it all

Hi cookies :)

It's insane that we have to explain the condition to doctors, isn't it? Don't take this the wrong way, but I am so glad someone else knows what I've gone through!

I'm 3 weeks post op, and since starting this adventure in April I've lost 20 kilos (actually 19.9 :P ) I've had a few 'little' flare ups but nothing, and I mean NOTHING like what I used to get. It's all looking positive from my perspective.

Wow, I was incredibly surprised to see that others here had HS. I've had to explain what it is to just about every doctor that I've ever seen, even my endocrinologist.

I was told by my endo that I needed to lose weight. Essentially, she said that my skin does not cope well with the sebum produced by androgens. The more weight I have, the more of me there is to produce androgens. If I lose weight, the symptoms of HS should lessen. I'm really, really excited to have the possibility of getting rid of it.

I have lost 10 kilos pre op, been drinking heaps more water than I used to, cut out caffeine, exercising regularly and lo and behold the only time I seem to get my flare ups is when I am ovulating and during menstruation. If this is a sign of things to come I will be a very happy camper!!

From what I understand the weight loss itself can help in 2 ways less of the hormones running around and a healthier enviroment as in less sweat etc. I am NO exbert nor have I researched this in depth I only suffer a mild form of it but it has close to gone now with the weight loss. I had mad more asumptions on the why it had improved for me. I am sure tho that you should be able to find information out there on the internet.

HS Link

I've suffered from this for 22 years now. Just wondering if anyone out there does as well? Did it get better after some weight loss? During my thin moments, I don't remember there being as many flare ups and if there were they weren't as bad as I get them now.

Thanks in advance,
