| Hi Band2007 I agree the band was a different experiece than I thought it would be. When I asked the dr why, he said "everyone is different". It seems that there are many who this has not been the right choice. Luckily taking the band out was fine and had no trouble. One night in hosp and about a week to feel pretty much like myself again, and you will so enjoy fruit, salads etc again | |

| Hi, I am newbie too......and agree with all the comments below on the band. Good marketing, poor product.
I have had mine for 3 years and it has given me grief for most of that time and same response from doctor - my fault, I must be doing something wrong.
Now I want it out & hope that any damage done repairs well and I can get the sleeve done.
so I am booked in for next Friday to have it out - for those that have - any tips on post-op? any problems to look out for? recovery time? I haven't thought about taking time off from work - will I need to?

| Hi TexasBell
I'm a newbie too and a band-it, waiting to become and ex-bandit! This forum has given me more information and support in a week, than I've had in all the years of banding - its fabulous! I agree with the others you're not a failure, the band failed for you. I know there seem to be plenty of people around having a successful journey with their bands, but the long term health problems and poor weight loss maintenance are not so good. We are just 2 of many. So here's to a new start!
All the best with your sleeve surgery and a successful WL journey.

| Hi and Welcome, You didn't fail last time it was the band, and you won't fail this time. It is so nice to be able to eat anything that you want but only teeny tiny amounts compared to what you used to. I am 5 months post and had steak for dinner with a little green stuff. Now saying I had steak for dinner was an overstatement it was just a couple of slivers really LOL
It is such a healthy way to eat and so much more pleasurable than the band from the sounds of it.
Good luck and keep us updated. Cheers Gail

| Welcome and Hello Texas, Try not to let loose too much. I did and put on nearly 10 kilos whilst waiting for my sleeve after having my band removed. The more disaster stories I read about others experiences with the band the happier it makes me feel that I got mine out. I wish you all the success with the sleeve as others on here have had. | |

| Hi Texas,
Your decision to take the band out (due to its failure) and go for the sleeve is already a pathway to success :) You will join our bandwagon soon!! and see the weight off slowly but steadily :)

| I always feel sad when we hear stories of the band not being effective - and sometimes disasterous - because it's a big step to take and you must start off with such high hopes. So, really sorry it didn't work out for you and here's to great success with the sleeve. Mama | |

| Hi, this has been a great site for me and helped hugely in my decision to have the lapband out and go for sleeve! I had my band out 15th Dec and am booked for sleeve surgery on 9th March.. I was banded in 2003 and really it has been 6 wasted years and after such high hopes just made me feel even more of a failure at weight loss! Basically the band never gave me the "full" feeling, only pain and vomiting. I didn't "cheat" the band but it just became much easier to eat soft foods like eggs, potato and pasta etc. So missed eating meat fruit and salads and many vege. Can't have done my health much good all this time. I am 47, married 3 children and was 96k banded (with co-morbidities) got down to 84 lowest and slowly climb back up to 89 when unbanded. Hovering around 91 now which isn't too bad considering christmas and a new year crusie. Trying to eat well but after so many years of band trobles its easy to "let loose" lol Well, one month to go and some rollercoaster emotions but mostly positive. Decided to post on here and add weight loss ticker (when I work it out) to be accountable to myself (does that make sense)? I have loved reading everyones journeys and hope mine can be successful too! | |
