| I had my sleeve about 18 mos ago and did tons of checking on things before the surgery. One of the reasons I chose the sleeve or bypass was so that I could take any meds with major problems. My understanding is that while NSAID are a problem for RNY folks it is OK for folks with the sleeve. That having been said check to see what your surgeon or program says. | |

| Lizzie: Please be very careful. That's the one thing they told me to absolutely not do in the first 3 months. The problem is that ulcers can form and you don't know it's happening. It was very good to take them with food but you still might want to see what your doctor says. It'd be awful to have problems you could avoid. They might have another pill for you to take in the sort term to substitute.

| I'm six weeks out and wasn't told not to use anything by my surgeon. Have used both ibuprofen and dissolvable aspirin without any problems when my hip went out (happens often). Made sure I had the ibuprofen with some yoghurt, and had a big glass of water with the aspirin so it was well diluted. Don't know if it's right or wrong but it worked, I don't do it all the time and it certainly didn't do me any harm. Sure helped get my dogey hip through the day though.

| **please note that I am not saying that these type of meds are ok or not ok...just info from other sites and you would need to check with your surgeon if they are ok to take**
Generally NSAIDs (aspirin, etc) are advised to be given in liquid form or crushed up and mixed with something,.... possible risk of contact irritation of one spot of an aspirin sits in the pouch. Generally all pills need to be broken into smaller pieces.

| I did read on another site once (wish I could remember now which one - it was a USA one) that after WLS stomachs cannot tolerate ibuprofen/nurofen etc...one lady did a big write up on it, even ones like advil, actually from memory I think it was anything that has that gel coating
before I keep guessing I will go and see if I can find it again...sorry

| Hi there my Dr sent me home from hospital with digesic pain killers, only available on script and they are great. I had also used them prior to surgery.
Hope this helps Vicky | |

Thanks Kylie - I will ask the doc when I go down later today, but I hoped to be able to take something now so I can handle the car trip (about 35 mins by car to the docs)

| Before I had my sleeve gastrectomy done - I used to take a lot of Ibuprofen for pain relief for my back (I have a rather nasty scoliosis. Anyway, my doctor told me I couldn't take Ibuprofen anymore as my stomach would be too small. I've been very very good, and have not had once since my op (October 08), but unfortunately I hurt my back shifting some furniture yesterday and need to know if anyone knows of anything else that is 'safe' to take that won't hurt my stomach? Paracetemol is ok for headaches etc, but doesn't touch the pain in my back.
Hope someone can help!!
