| HI, my dad wants to get the sleeve after seeing me get great results about five years ago but things have changed so much re private health insurance. Who are people with and how much roughly per month? I used to be with HCF. If anyone can offer any advice or say who they're with that would be great. He is in his early 60s and in NSW.
Thanks! debs | |

| I am with BUPA but moved here from overseas and thus have a higher coverage than most Australians I have come to realize. I have top hospital cover and some extras and it is costing me around $260 a month. Thus when I had my surgery I paid my gap of $500 and everything else was covered. | |

| Hi peapodprincedd and Deb
Deb I replied to you on the other thread you started too 😊
'P' I am very interested in your Bupa cover. I too moved here from overseas so also have s very high cover but with Medibank called advantage plus. I just assumed it would not be covered and would need to pay the $6,500 gap. Are you still on the international cover? Ours changed when we became citizens but remain the same 'advantage plus' cover.... May give them another call! Would be great to spend my $ on a beach holiday when I have lost some Kg after the sleeve!!
Good luck Deb, sounds like Bupa is really good!

| Hi deb, I'm a teachers so im with teachers health fund $76 per fortnight for just me. I have top hospital and basic extras.
Thst means they covered my hospital stay and I'll get a small amount back for anesthetic. Had $3500 gap but that varies with the surgeon.
Basic extras doesnt cover dietician ($90 for initial visit and $60 for each visit after that) or psych visits.
From what I've read you need top hospital or its equivalent for the surgery and some funds dont cover it.
I would ask the funds if they cover the item number for gastric sleeve 31575.

| Thanks ladies. I might look into the Bupa cover and see how that goes. $6500 out of pocket is really high, I reckon you can definitely get a better deal than that though I know A lot depends on the surgeon. When I got mine done about 4 years ago I think I was about $1800 out of pocket for the anaethetist and $500 for the hospital. Thanks again.

| Hi Lizzbeth;
It is called Gold Visitors cover with extras and I am still on it. When I called them I gave them the surgery id from the doctor and they said yes it was covered along with hospital stay and that was all I had to do from that perspective. I still had to pay the surgeon and anesthesiologist upfront but I had no bills after which was great.
