Band to sleeve or bypass Empty
PostSubject: Re: Band to sleeve or bypass   Band to sleeve or bypass EmptyTue 01 Sep 2015, 1:11 pm

Unfortunately I haven't heard of any drs that are in the rural area - only Perth. I will be moving to rural NZ myself next year, which is part of the reason that I am moving on from my band and to a bypass - i won't be able to keep going back to a city for fills.

I can totally understand why you are concerned about the double payment for flights, but they separate the surgeries to reduce complications. I just had an appointment with my surgeon today regarding my pending surgeries. He said that all patients with previous gastric surgery will have scar tissue - no matter how good their surgeon was. And I would think yours might be extensive as you have had so many complications and revisional surgeries. The time between the two surgeries (3 months at least) allows for the scar tissue to soften. This is really important when cutting and stapling the stomach - because scar tissue can cause leakage! And that is SUPER bad. In the end that extra $900 could mean the difference between a successful surgery and a life-threatening failure.

Whatever you choose to do - just remember that your health and happiness is worth more than money. Good luck!

Band to sleeve or bypass Empty
PostSubject: Band to sleeve or bypass   Band to sleeve or bypass EmptyTue 04 Aug 2015, 1:35 pm

Hi new to site.. I have had two lap bands, one 11 years ago, huge weight loss of 78kilos. Suffered reflux everyday for ten years .. Had band slip two years ago, had surgery to remove and dr installed new band. Unfort cancelled my private health and had to pay $14,000 as dr would only preform in private hospital in Perth... I live regional wa. Since new band two years ago, have only had two fills as no local dr can do fill then new band flipped had to go back have surgery to turn band. Have since gained 30 kilos in two years. Unable to travel 6 hours each time I need fill and at huge travel cost. Looking at having sleeve as not requiring fills etc. I have contacted many dry in Perth via email, some not responding, the ones that just treated me like number, sent cost and that was it. One dr told me to visit him in Perth which will be a flight at $900, the told me once he has chatted he will book me in to come back three months later another flight $900 removal the band then come back three months later another flight $900 to have sleeve. I am aware of my responsibility in terms of getting to Perth but I feel like all the dr wants is $$$$$$. Does anyone know of any regional north wa dr who have done sleeve....
