I'll look for the others post you mentioned.
It's scary to see so many non-successful stories (I believe about of 1/3 don't get there!?!?). For me... it's only worth doing something this radical to get to a HEALTHY/normal BMI. I hope I'll be able to tell that story. :) Also check out "Metamorphisis" blog. She has lost about 50 kg in a year!!!

- Hi Denzel and Jules,
I'm happy to see you both reached your personal goals (and beyond) and hope you can get to maintenance (instead of losing more). I was a bit disappointed that the goals both my surgeon and dietitian set out for me still leave me at "overweight", with a BMI of 28+... I guess I am looking for inspiration that I can go much further than that. Was it very difficult for you? I would love to lose the 30Kg in the first 6 months and then try to get the last 6-7kgs down after that to get at a healthy 24 BMI.
Well done to you both and good luck! Welcome Bia! When the surgeons do their estimations they go on an expected AVERAGE weight loss of 60-70% of your EXCESS weight, ie of the amount (kg) between when you were sleeved and what you'd weigh with a BMI of 24.9% Certainly 57 kg would be your 'ideal weight. I certainly can't see any reason why you couldn't lose the weight you want to within a year (easily)! For me - and I DO believe that 'healthy eating' guidelines will go back to this, I 'do best' health-wise (Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Myalgic Encephalopathy, Fibromyalgia, Menieres Disease) + weight loss on a low-carb diet. No added sugar. No refined carbohydrates. Certainly the dietician I was seeing, Jo Anne Dembo, at "Diet By D'Zyne" emphasised having protein first, then non-starchy veg, then if you have room, starchy veg. AND I do believe that this is the (back to the - past!) 'future' of diet for diabetics. GUARANTEED that all of us on this forum, pre-sleeve and some after (if they continue to eat added sugar and refined carbohydrates) have had insulin- resistance, other-wise we wouldn't have been in the shape we were/are in lol! Check out my posts on "A calorie does not equal a calorie", "Low carb, high fat " etc etc. I have also found that my tastes in food have changed. I used to be a HUGE cheese fanatic - ie I could polish off 200-250 gm Masadaam (like Jarlsberg) in an evening - easily. By using the sleeve as a great tool for weight loss and control, which I believe I have, I have found it easier to utilise the meal priority of protein first etc, thereby have balanced the hormones - insulin etc - and I have virtually eliminated carb cravings. You aren't much taller than me - I am 153.5 cm, and weighed 45.99 kg last Monday. About a size 4-6 (6 often too big!!!) in pants. (My dietician had set my 'Goal Weight' at 53 kg +/- 3 kg ie my height in cm - my height in cm). Wearing AGE 10 (too big now) boys' pants, and bought a pair of boys board shorts at the Op Shop this week - AGE 9. My main problem now is finding clothes to fit lol!! The good thing about me being SO short is that I can check out the kids' section at the Op Shops etc.

| Hey Denzel looks like we are both still losing! 100% of excess body weight gone in 6 months and am now at 60.6kg. Dieticians initial estimate was 75kg then amended it to high 60's - 70kg I've surpassed that and now the dietician is helping me to TRY to maintain. That started at 62kg and I've not managed yet to stop the losses. The Doctor doesn't want me lower than 60kg and to see him if it gets there. Looks like i'll be visiting him soon. Reflux is still bad although the Botox helped for 3 months so am going in for another round of Botox in two weeks. Surgeon is hopeful that this will help greatly and may fix the reflux issue.
I'll give you a call next week and arrange to drop off that Thai recipe book I picked up in Phuket for you.
Talk soon

| Hi everyone,
I am 3 weeks shy of my 6/12 anniversary and have passed the dieticians goal weight for me and the lower goal weight I set for me (she had agreed that it was realistic and achievable).
I have reached a weight at which I don't want to lose any more, with a BMI of 20.68 I saw my dietician today (I have had a total of 7 visits) with the goal for today's visit of getting guidelines on how to maintain my weight where it is and not to lose anymore. I was congratulated on the weight loss that I have achieved, and she recognised that I already eat a healthy diet and am very well read and informed.
So, basically the advice she gave me was to concentrate on protein and healthy fats and to increase amounts of nuts, avocado. (She knew I was anti-carbohydrate - hey, that's why I got obese in the first place! in that I didn't want to maintain using strategies such as eating rice...)
We also discussed the new Healthy Eating Pyramid and it's move away from refined carbohydrates...and also how I believe that all the previous 'healthy diet guidelines' were detrimental for those on the slippery slope to and with diabetes Type 2.
Another concern of mine is since me having an ileus and small bowel obstruction recently following abdominal wall surgery and basically not eating for 2/52 my stomach appears to have...shrunk. My intake in a single sitting appears to be about 1/4 cup food... ie the size of one poached egg. And I don't snack between meals. But I am sure that this situation will remedy itself :) So I am prepared that I will probably drop another kg or so until my intake improves, and according to my research if my carb intake is still low increasing healthy fats won't actually make me gain weight, in fact I'll keep on losing. I'll ask her what her 'end point' weight for me would be, she was happy for my end point to be what it is now, but wondering if she would say another couple of kgs lighter? She is tiny herself, about my height, but I see her as much smaller.
