| Subject: Its now been 7 months ... update Thu 07 Jan 2016, 5:26 am | |
| Well I've now been flying solo for seven months ... I'm fat!!! Nearly hitting 90kg again and its so ruddy hard!!! Found out that as Bupa changed their levels of cover I was no longer covered for my December surgery. I either have to wait 12 more months or self fund but am struggling to find a doctor that will let me self fund. Depressed :( | |

| I had my band in for 2 years and it never really worked. I was vomiting all the time and my life never felt normal. In June 2014 I had the useless thing removed and 6 weeks later I had the sleeve procedure. It was the best thing I have ever done. I was 116.7kg at the day of my surgery and 18 months later I am now 68kg. The sleeve saved my life. It also allows you to feel normal. I eat really small meals now but who cares. It took me a while to adjust as I love food but I can still eat whatever I want just in really small portions. I have 1 piece of toast for breakfast, 1/2 a sandwich for lunch and small normal dinner. My advice, get rid of the band and go the sleeve, it will turn your life around. | |

| Its been four weeks of no band and still six weeks before I have my sleeve done. I am currently sitting at 78kg and determined not to go over 80!!! Using shakes often ... did get to 83 about a month ago and now being stricter with myself. Determination!!!
I've heard that the weight loss is a lot slower with the sleeve and praying it works for me :)

| Thank you everyone for your comments! Joybells It has been a week in the morning since I had my band removed but I have only been on clear fluids and have put on 11kg already!!! Eek! I am telling myself it is because I was so dehydrated and they gave me five of those fluid bags in the hospital so that's 5kg right there ... Personally I have set myself a goal I refuse to hit 80kg ever again in my life ... Six months is going to be a breeze until I get a sleeve ... I can do this !!! :) | |

Very normal. I had mine out last June for the same reason and was sleeved in November. I put on 10+kg. Something also to consider is that the weight does not come back off again quickly once you have been sleeved. Your metabolism is very changed. You do have restriction, and it is very different to the band, but be prepared that it is much slower weight loss!!

| Hi kimmi, it seems to be unfortunately. I had my band out in April And gained about 5 kgs. I need to wait for the end of October for my sleeve surgery. I am over it already! My surgeon said its not unusual to gain al the weight back. I really hope he's wrong but I just don't seem to get any full signals at the moment. | |

| Hi Icandothis, You are such an inspiration in what you have achieved with the band. I have a very sensitive surgeon who doesn't set goals as every one is made genetically different and he believes by setting goals he's setting his patients up for failure which is what all diets have done to us for years. You are unique, don't let your surgeon lull you into thinking its normal for you to be the same as every one else and set your mind to fail. It will be very hard as you will be tempted to go back to old habits. My advice would be also to be determined to prove you can do this but with help. It may require a good bariatric dietician so monthly visits to keep your good eating habits on track and to help you make adjustments if you start to put on weight. Nip it in the bud and it's good to form a good eating plan before the sleeve as its easier for after surgery when your able to eat so little. I know some very obese pre sleeves have to do a 6 months modified opti fast diet to get them to surgery so you could also do this to stop the weight gain but get dr and dietician on board with you as it is a big commitment. I did it for 6 weeks and after the first 2 weeks I wasn't hungry or looking for snacks at all. You have opti fast for breakfast and lunch. Carb free veg for snacks. The a carb free tea of fish or chicken fried in small amount of oil with any carb free veg. So you can have stir fries, boiled or dry roast veg with tiny bit of oil spray, soups, salads. Just make sure they are from the carb free range. Sally johnsons bariatric cook books are also very helpful. She is now working with her dietician partner in an online bariatric membership for help and advice from your own home. It's an excellent support service. I encourage you to not let your hard work be lost - you can try to be the different one and at least you know you did your best. All the best for your journey. | |

| Hi Icandothis,
I have never had a band but my neice had a band and had it removed. She put on a lot of weight before she was sleeved this year. I think if you are very careful and sensible with your eating you should be ok. Be strong an prove your doctor wrong, the time will pass quickly and you will have your sleeve before you know it.
I know you can do it, you have done so well to be where you are now.
Good luck. | |

| I have just ... Yesterday had my band removed as it detached. What is scaring me now is I am not getting a sleeve done until mid December and my doctor has advised me he would find it quite normal to gain around 20/25kg ... That terrifies me :(. I was banded three years ago at 132kg I have been sitting between 65/75kg for the last 18 months. Currently 67kg I like me current size ... How much is normal to gain? | |
