| Yeah. I found telling people that I was being banded helped. However, the few at work that I hadn't got to were soon asking me what was wrong with me as I had lsot so much weight (they had thought that I had cancer). Remembering what you have told people is too difficult - you may as well tell them up front. Cheers from Ian - The bad apple(sauce) wrote:

And as you find generaly you get nothing but support & encoragement & you can end up helping others on the way. Which in itself is another plus for your own journey!

| Hey dudes!
I turned 35 yesterday, I had my sleeve 7 weeks ago. I'm no longer in my twenties but still feel young (still play videogames and all). At my twenties (23-24) I lost 20kgs doing the Atkins Low Carb Diet. I lost that weight in about three months. The only good thing going for that type of eating was that as long as I didn't eat carbs I could eat a lot and still loose weight. After those three months and about two of keeping that weight I gained back 42kgs to where I was before getting sleeved.
So far has been very good for me (-23kgs) in 7 weeks, much faster than any Low-Carb Diet and much easier too.
I also didn't tell at work what type of surgery I was getting, neither to my students (I also teach at a university), It's no one's business.

| Hey Simsy
Im not that long out of being sleeved (was done last week) as a younger guy (im only 26) I havent seen to many of us on here except DUSTY that have been sleeved. (sorry if I left anyone else out)
It's not odd to be feeling excited, I think its great to get it done young as you tend to bounce back a bit quicker. Congrats on your decision, PM me if you need any help and want anything answered that you dont feel comfortable asking in public

I also tell them I'm crapping myself too I havent really started to think about the op itself too much really except I want it done yesterday, though I am having some anxiety attacks, you know heart feels like it is beating too fast and breathing feels a bit tight for no real reason that I can find ....... at least I hope it is only an anxiety attack! You dont have too far to go now Capt'n and I for one will be pleased when you have had your sleeve ........... just a selfish old fart really eh!

| Yeh the "ego" is something we all have to come to terms with on this journey, it took a proverbial "clip arround the ear from the sauce" before I saw sense & came to terms with mine, Haven't looked back since, it's just our usual "can't admit when we need help" men's attitude. I think most people respect the courage it takes to undergo this procedure let alone the journey ahead not everybody could do it. | |

| Oh yuck the "Optipuke" pre op stage just grin and bear it but it's well worth it in the end.
As I said to you at Dome to who and how much you tell is totaly your call but you may find that relying on the "grapevine" may do more to fan the office rumors than to quell them. It depends on how much info you told your boss & how much he releases to your collegues. In my case I found that being open with my work collegues about what was happening gained me so much support and prepared them for the physical changes as they became evedent. In contrast people I hadn't seen for a while assumed the worst when they saw me and asked if I had cancer or somthing until I set them straight & again most wer very supportive about my decision. But in the end It's what you feel comfortable with is the point here.

| well things are moving; albeit slowly thursday I am off to see the dietician and find out about optifast I guess ............ one small step in the path to a size XL shirts.
I told my work last week that I was going in for an op on the 4th, and jokingly mentioned that if I get a leak I would end up in ICU for a few months, I have not told them what the op is (too embarassed) anyway I went into the office today and one of the office girls thinks I have some type of cancer and I didnt know what to say .... but I just sent the boss an email letting them know that I dont have anything dastardly so please dont worry etc. I hope that information will get passed around till it gets to reception at least

| Actually TBAs that is a good idea I might see if I can sneak in a voice recorder so I can listen to the op room conversation at a later date ........ | |

| Hi m8,
I think I am feeling quite embarassed about the thought of those stirrups and the paper pants (yes seriously) and may ask the surgeon to assure me everyone will wear blindfolds or at the very least to keep one eye closed!!
