| Smurfette I'm so glad you understand. I don't want to be judged on decisions I make. Unfortunately I have a lot of people in my life that I know would not support me. I havnt even told my partner yet. He always goes on about no easy fix diet and exercise just do it. I know the surgery is no easy fix at all. He will support me but he would prefer if I didn't ... If you get what I'm saying. I think once I open up to him about how I feel he will understand. I have started telling people my "New Years resolution" is to join a gym and start getting healthy... Then hopefully like what you did. Start the diets and losing some weight and they all put it down the the lifestyle changes. I don't want to tell my boss though- even though it's meant to be confidential that's unfortunately not exactly how my workplace operates. Thanks so much for your reply. Was there a link at the bottom of that??? | |

| Hi there LuLuAnne
Yes I know where you are coming from; I have seen a few Gastric sleeve and LapBand people reveal themselves; and all I can say is "some people can be so nasty, especially in country towns". One would think they haven't anything better to talk about. I am still in the closet, except for my OH and BF (whom I told after the deed; and she said she was glad it was after as she would of freaked, but fully support me now). Once it is out there; you cannot not get it back. Some people have extrodinary friends and relatives, noone ever nasty about it; others tend to get the total backlash. Me myself I find and I know I didn't want to be the subject of other peoples constant scrutiny, gossip and nastiness.
I started a diet of TF three weeks before OF (on two weeks as per sugeons instructions); quite openingly (my diary contains a lot of detail); which at the end of the five weeks I had lost about ten kilos. I then went on holidays (for the op, but no one the wiser) for a few weeks; and on return everyone assumed I had lost it on these diets; though I had also by then joined a fittness club and had a specialist dietican (adding to the story); which is all true, and I was told by the doctor to loose weight. My boss and my children knew I was having an operation; though not exactly what (fixup job); and an employer (by law) does not have to know the details of your operation and cannot repeat it to anyone, even the staff.
I have had a few people ask me for the exact details of how I lost the weight. Saying it is a combination of a lot of things; fittness; gym; dietican; and adding to that if I think they are pretty confidential; I have said if they pop over to my place one day I will go over the whole plan with them. (no-one has taken me up on it as yet). When out of town shopping for clothes etc; some people notice, and I have eleaborated on the GS knowing they will not repeat it; but only a small handful; though this was at two years plus after the GS.
The following is another thread of the same; and there is a few others [Only admins are allowed to see this link] | |

| Thanks for your reply nini I really appreciate it. Maybe I will change my mind but at the moment I'd like it to be my little secret. (Along with some of my close friends and family) | |

| Hi LuluAnne,
Once I had the operation I told everyone and honestly haven't had one negative comment but I can understand if you want to keep this private. The best cover story is that you have had a large Hiatus Hernia Repair. The post op recover is very similar and it also explains why you may get nauseated or not tolerate certain foods any more.
good luck Nini | |

| Hey everyone. I decided 4 years ago I wanted the sleeve. I have finally taken the next step and will have my 1st consultation in May. I could almost cry. I can finally see this happening. I don't have parents but I do have sisters and they are 100% behind me. I don't feel comfortable telling people about my decision though. Especially people from work and certain people who would give you the line " just diet and exercise". I guess what I'm asking is. Has anyone ever has a story for why they were having surgery or why the sudden weight loss??? I know it's nothing to be ashamed of but I can't help but feel like this is my secret.
Thanks everyone x | |
