| Hi Biglil wow you have had a really tough time. I really hope you get to your goal weight so you can have a bypass.I had a lapband 2 yrs ago and did not have any luck with it. I had a bypass 5 weeks ago. I weight myself every Thursday and to my horror I only lost 5oogms last week. So Im really worried that I am going to fail at this like I did with the band. Be strong you can get to your goal weight.
Take care Chocchook | |

| Hi Garlfield, not offended at all.... in fact I spent countless hours researching surgeons. The surgeon I chose is quite controversial but I believe he is the best In victoria for handling High Risk situations. He trained under Shaw Summers in the UK (The Fat Doctor from the TV series) and lots of people from this forum have used him as they faced the same situation as me... when no one else would operate. I have met with him and his team on several occassions now and feel completely as ease with being in his hands. Hi Lin 1970, I am not doing opti or any form of shake. I am on a VLCD and am being monitored by my surgeon and dietician fortnightly. I can't stand shakes of any kind... not even a standard shake from a cafe' !!! they have always made me gag. I am doing really well and have not cheated once and its been 5 weeks. I am determined to get to 140kgs for my surgery. It's getting closer by the day now. | |

| hi, I think when you have been through so much like yourself you will like you can't suceed. But you can. Even if you get more weight loss surgery most people will always struggle as more than anything it is a head game.
Opti sucks big time. As a lead up until you have to go on opti have you looked into doing Tony Ferguson, Kate Morgan or similar. A friend has used bodytrim when she was in plateau mode - she had surgery about 4 or so years ago. She has done well. lost 50 but gained about 10 after some health issues and is getting back on track. She told me surgery has helped her get some control back in her life.

| Please don't be offended by this, but can you research your Dr on his experience on taking on complicated cases? I can name 3 off the top of my head over 20 plus in Perth who are the 'experts'.
If he can't give you solid answers, then I suggest you find a noteworthy surgeon that can. Even start a post searching for the best Dr in your area/state that deals with unusual cases.
Best of luck x | |

| Yep, e erything costs money. And big dollars too. I see your in the southeast, whereabouts? I'm not being done at Peninsula, I'm being done at Linacre Private in Hampton. Hope I don't have to stay in for long as its not close to home and I'll miss my little boy. | |

| Well, I had tried opti before I saw her as I knew from a friend that's what she used but I only lasted three days, well, not even, the third night I had to eat! The jalna diet is jalna fat free mixed with natural oats, apple and other fruit, you have that for breakfast and lunch and dinner is a small serve of protein, salad and/or veg (but not starchy veges) and if you want, starches or carbs. Sounds simple, not too bad but I just can't do it. | |

| Marescolt... I don't know anyone who has been about to stick to Sharons Regimes and I know quite a few people who have seen her! Don't feel like a failure, I honestly think the whole Jalna diet is ridiculous,.... Are you being sleeved at Peninsula ? I understand fighting the surgery... I want it so badly but don't want the "process" . I have come to terms with the fact that without such radical intervention I will just keep on getting bigger & bigger.
Tara, thanks for your kind words ! It's been at least 10 years since I saw Sharon Marks. I do how ever recall what she had me eating. I was on opti fast shakes and jalna yoghurt with fruit. This was not a sustainable option for me... I lasted a couple of days !

| Lil,
You're a freaking legend !!!
You have been through A LOT, kept on persevering and have not given up or taken no for an answer. I admire that.
Tara
PS --Can you guys tell me a bit more about what's eaten on the Sharon Marks' Diet please ??
Look forward to seeing how you get on Lil.

| I'm being sleeved at the end of March. Sharon doesn't know yet! I see her in a couple of weeks and will tell her then. I'm meant to be on the jalna, oats & fruit diet but I can't do it. Another failure. That's why I know I need surgery even though I hate the thought of it. I'm still fighting that. Anyway, every days a new day. | |

| Thank you marescolt
Have you had a bypass? I note that you have started Sharon Marks Diet. I saw her many years ago, her diet for me was opti fast and Jalna yoghurt ! I hope things have changed !
Thanks again for your well wishes.

| Hi all, What a wonderful forum this is ! I have found lots of Aussie forums for Lap Banders and Sleevers but there is not much out there for Aussie ByPassers. I was first banded with a non adjustable lap band in 1991 via open surgery at 110kgs .... you know the drill... ups and downs etc . By 2005 I was up to 164 kgs. I had a non adjustable lap band placed again via open surgery in 2005. Same pattern, ups and downs. I stabilised around 155 kgs. I am 158 cms short Last year after seeing some horrific pics of myself at my 40th birthday I decided I was never going to look like that again. I embarked on a total lifestyle change and got down to 127 kgs from January 14th to June 7th ! June 7th I allowed myself to indulge and that was the end of my lifestyle change ! I completely fell off the wagon and by December 2012 I was back to 140 kgs. I had a couple of friends that were being sleeved so I went back to my original Band Surgeon to speak about getting the procedure. He refused. I was Heart broken ! I then started researching surgeons and found a local one. When I went to my appointment with him he was very positive but said a sleeve would be of no use and that we should skip straight to a bypass. All was great until I told him i had 2 previous open surgeries. We scheduled a pre planning surgery so that he could take a look and see what he would be up against. That took place on December 13th 2012. I was 140 kgs He couldn't even find my stomach. My adhesions were so severe that he was going to sew me back up. His instruments accidentally hit the tubing that ran from my band to my port so he was able to follow the tubing back up to the band and cut the band out in several pieces ! It was a blessing that he was able to do that as he said he wouldn't be able to do further surgery. He described my insides as being some of the worst he has ever seen. Whilst I was over the moon that my lap band had been removed (we hadn't planned on that) I was also devo that I couldn't go ahead with a bypass. I wasn't going to let it rest there though .... 7 weeks later I was sitting in a new and very controversial surgeons office who is renown for taking on High Risk Patients. I had made my way back up to 155 kgs in 7 weeks ! After a very long consult he agreed to do the bypass if I could get down to 140kgs by March 4th. I will consult with him that day and if I make it he will book me in within a fortnight ! I am scared out of my brains that I will fail this too. This is the end of the road surgery wise... I just can't afford to F*#^ this up ! Thanks for listening, I look forward to chatting with you and hearing your stories, both the good and the not so good ! Cheers BigLil | |
