| I still have my band but am hoping to convince my doc to remove it and get the sleeve. I hate the band. I have been on this site for a couple of weeks and there are lots and lots of ex bandits on here and they all seem to be doing so much better on the sleeve. There are a lot of them in The Diary' section so i'm sure you'll find lots of info...plus going back through this thread there would be lots of info too.
I hope it works out for you.

| Hi Freddo. I was told the same stats. When I tossing up between getting my band fixed or the sleeve. The sleeve seemed like the better solution cause the risk of the band moving again increases more and more. I didn't want to be in and out of hospital for ever. As with any weight loss surgery the sleeve is just a tool not the solution. Ur surgeon will probably send u to a head doc too so ur mind and body are working together. In sayin that the sleeve for me so far is completely different. No vomiting (only once) ur stomach is smaller u can't possibly eat too much food. I had my band in for 6 years and felt tired and sick all the time. Now I have lots of energy and am modivated. I can't eat chocolate anymore nor have hot chocolate, u can still graze with the sleeve that's why they say its just a tool. U have a big decision to make :) but I know I'm happy wih my sleeve decision. I was also told I had lots of scaring from the bloody band and he had to double stitch through the scaring. Hope this helps :) | |

| Hello all:
I was banded about 10 years ago - it slipped and I had it replaced. Lost weight, stalled, started to regain. Gave up. A recent gastroscopy revealed what I already knew - no restriction at all.
I saw a surgeon yesterday about getting sleeved. He told me that as I have had two bands, he cannot guarantee anything until he has a good look inside, as there could be damage. He also tells me that post op complications run at about 1% for most, but if you've been banded (twice) the risk goes up to about 5 or 6%/.
Has anyone else heard these statistics?
I'm due to have the band out on 13th of this month. He will then make recommendations.
I'm hoping all is OK, and that I can be sleeved early in the new year.
When I got the band, I was very optimistic and was sure it would be the solution for me. This time I'm much more wary - I've had more than 30 years of futile attempts at weight loss and am really afraid that it will all be a big waste of time again. This is the last ditch effort - if there's no success here, I think I will be losing mobility soon. My knees are starting to go.
I would welcome any advice or stories from any ex-bandits out there.
