| My advice is to eat what you can. Protein first in the early stages, if you cant get up to 60-70g of protein slowly work on it. the sleeve gets bigger in stages and the stages are different in each person and different sensitivities to levesl in each person.
I generally need about 1000 as I am sensitive to the carb levels and who knows what else. If I don't get enough I have a hypo but that is me. I have 6 small meals a day.
HOpe this helps not confuses.Your instincts are usually correct.
A strange thing for the dietician to say.

| I was a bit worried when I read your post Red, and yours Carissa... I have been hungry for the first time since surgery (4 weeks today) and thought I was eating a cup easily... but I measured it... and I am eating 1/2 a cup... how quickly we get used to the small amounts we are eating... 1/2 a cup looks almost indecently large!!!
Thanks for the question and the answers... as you say Red, great to get advice from everyone... such a valuable resource. Jane

| Thanks LittleMissCee for the advice. That's what I love about this website that us newbies can get advice from people who had already been here. I tried for a few days just made myself feel sick and actually had my first vomit. After that I definitely dialed the amount back. I am learning the telltale signs of when I need to eat even if I don't feel hungry. | |

| Thanks everyone.
Red5 - 1 cup x 3 times a day at a month out from surgery?
I didn't think that was physically possible that early out! Sorry hun.. Just going by MY personal experience, I could only manage a 1/4 - 1/2 cup at that point.
It wasn't till I hit about 8 or 9 months out that I could get in a full cup of food (be it dense protein, etc) in one sitting.
My dietician that I saw pre-op said my stomach capacity was only half a cup till around 6 - 8 months where it would stretch to a cup at that stage.
Obviously everyone is different, we don't ALL have the same size tummies as we all have different surgeons... But don't feel you HAVE to be eating a cup of food each meal right now just because your dietician says so! If you're full and feel restricted at only half.. Then stop.

| I was told 1200 calories if I'm exercising plus at least 70g of protein. She worked protein out at 0.7g/1kg of bodyweight. I struggle at this stage with the calories, and when I tried to eat more it made me sick. She told me by now I should be eating 3 x 1 cup of food plus 1 snack, which I just can't manage yet.
I like the sound of 900 calories better!

| I aim for 900 calories a day,70 grams of protein, 20 grams of fat, 40 grams of carbs as I know they are a real trigger for me to eat more and gain weight. I use myfitnesspal and have gone into settings to enter these amounts so it's customized to me. Initially a dietitian told me too aim for this and I have stuck with it as its worked well. I had some hairloss at about 3-4 months but otherwise my health has been really good.... Touch wood! I am 8.9 kgs away from goal weight and was sleeved mid jan so this seems to work ok for this phase. | |

| My dietician was only really concerned about protein, as this is essential for muscle and energy. The rest wasn't talked about except to keep them as low as possible. | |

| What has your surgeon/dietician recommended as your daily intake for the following?
- Protein
- Carbohydrates
- Sugar
- Fat
My dietician has never mentioned anything other than protein intake - which she has told me to aim for 50g a day.
I track my food intake most days I track on myfitnesspal, and while some days my carb intake is low, other days (like today) it is 100g.
I googled recommended intakes, and for the "average" human, the recommended is as follows:
Protein - 50g
Carbs - 310g
Sugar - 90g
Fat - 70g
That was taken from www.mydailyintake.net/nutrients/
I am seriously confused at what I should be aiming for apart from protein.
